Hello :wve: :)
Since i’ve changed my computer to this new one , (2000SP4), i have some problems which i hadn’t in 98SE.
I downloaded ATR , and WDM sound .
Installed successfully !
And after i run ATR to install TR1 , and also Unifinshed business . Installed successfully !
But i have 2 problems is that when i run tr(glide) , i cannot visualize the movies in the beginning , there’re some weird things.
Second problem : When i press F5 (to save) , the game crash and returns into windows.

+ The main menu isn’t displayed normally !

Notice : I DIDN’T DISABLE dvoodooo , and i have an ATI Card of 4 Mb :D, i though we should thick “disable dgvoodoo” if we had a card such this one.
I tried before , but bad result !

Oh well, and another problem :D , is that the bitmap doesn’t support tr1 screenies , it does with tr2-3-4-5-6-7 but not with the first one , any solution for this ? :D

Well , can this problems be solved please ? 

Thankies, Raiderfun

Hello Raiderfun.Notice : I DIDN’T DISABLE dvoodooo , and i have an ATI Card of 4 Mb :D, i though we should thick “disable dgvoodoo” if we had a card such this one.
I tried before , but bad result !
I think you mean "Disable VDD Mode".
If you disable DgVoodoo, you disable the game in this setup.

Your ATI card is a very old one. I need to know which exactly.

Click Start > Run... type in:
dxdiag
click OK.
Select to 'Save all information'. Save it onto your Desktop.
Open the file in Notepad, select all then copy the complete text into your next reply. :)

D) USING w2k-j5-30-1-b02.exe
Overview
There are two phases to the installation of a driver that has been downloaded from the ATI WEB site.
The first phase occurs when you run the w2k-j5-30-1-b02.exe program.
This phase creates a temporary directory on the system disk and unpacks all the individual files that make up the ATI software bundle.
In the second phase the ATI SETUP program is launched from the temporary directory created in the first phase. ATI SETUP installs the software (from the temporary directory) into the operating system.
Steps
a) You must download w2k-j5-30-1-b02.exe and save it to a directory on your systems hard disk.
For example C:\temp is a common directory used to initially save a file into.
b) Once you have downloaded w2k-j5-30-1-b02.exe,

Close all programs
Click the START button and select the RUN menu item.
Click the BROWSE button.
Browse to the directory where w2k-j5-30-1-b02.exe was saved.
Select w2k-j5-30-1-b02.exe and click OK to run the program.
Follow the instructions on the screen.! The individual files will be unpacked and placed into a directory on your hard disk. The default path for this directory is C:\ATI\w2k-j5-30-1-b02\
! After copying the files to the hard disk the INSTALLATION program will launch. You may choose to abort the INSTALL process at this point. (If you abort, no software will be installed into Windows.)
Manual Installation instructions after running w2k-j5-30-1-b02.exe

Start Windows.
Click the START button.
Click the RUN menu item.
Click the BROWSE button. Browse to the directory where the files were unpacked after running w2k-j5-30-1-b02.exe. (The default directory is C:\ATI\w2k-j5-30-1-b02)
Select SETUP.EXE and press OK.
Follow the instructions displayed in the help.************************************
E) UN-INSTALL
To un-install this software;

Click START, go to SETTINGS and select CONTROL PANEL.

Select "ATI Display Driver" and then click the ADD/REMOVE button.
RESTART Windows.To un-install temporary files from the DOWNLOAD bundle;

Delete the directory C:\ATI\w2k-j5-30-1-b02\NOTE: If you unbundled the files into a different directory, simply delete that directory.
************************************
F) ISSUES YOU MAY ENCOUNTER:
VERSION CONFLICTS
When installing Display Drivers or Software a "Version Conflict" message may appear multiple times during the installation.
If you encounter a "VERSION CONFLICT" message while installing this display driver select the "NO" option to proceed.
* Selecting "NO" will ensure that the components of this driver bundle will replace your existing driver components.
* Selecting "YES" will result in a MIX of new and old driver components, which is undesirable
CONFIRM FILE REPLACE
When installing Display Drivers or Software a "Confirm File Replace" message may appear multiple times during the installation.

A question. Your title says TR1 Glidos problem. Yet you talk about Disable VDD mode that did not work. But in Glidos you don't need to do that at all. What made you think that? Our TR1 FAQ does not say so.

Final Installation Page - GLIDOS only
If you have chosen GLIDOS you need to start Tomb Raider by clicking on the Glidos Desktop Icon that was created by the GLIDOS Installation. Start the Glide Server and select Adjust. We would recommend that Full Screen is Checked. Press Start Game. TR1 will be started with VDMSound. When you are happy GLIDOS is working correctly you can purchase the software (this gets rid of the spinning logo after Level 2 in the game).

Joseph

Hey, well done raiderfun! :tmb:

You have to set your preferences of course. Right-click on Desktop > Properties. I suppose it works in W2000 similar as in W98 / ME / XP.

and is there any solution to take screenies of the game ?Does Glidos have an inbuilt Printscreen function like DgVoodoo? If not, use IrFanView (http://www.irfanview.com/).

Zebius
12-10-06, 08:31
Don't expect that this game will run in higher resolution, your graphics card is very very old and has 4MB of memory only. Original Voodoo card had 4MB too and could run games in 640x480 or lower resolution only.

Ooops Zebius you make me realise raiderfun was talking about the game when he said the desktop is so BIIIGGG !!! icons , polices , and caracteres are HUge !!!!
I tried to modify the resolution , but the game doesn't work smoothly :D

Tomb Raider1 Readme:
If your screen locks up, is distorted, or only shows a certain section, then run these
programs/drivers before installing or playing the game:

1) the univesa driver that came with the cd or through our ftp site, or
2) a DOS UNIVBE shareware driver, you can download one from www.scitechsoft.com (http://www.scitechsoft.com), or
3) using a commercial application called a Power2Play Utility program.
If you have a black screen upon running the installation or tomb executables: run any
of the above programs, disable any TSR's, and do all the steps in DOS.

Known cards that requires VESA drivers:
STB Velocity 3D
Diamond Stealth 64
Imagine Series 128 se
Diamond 2000 or 3000 series cards (some, not all)
Matrox Millenium with Gravis Ultrasound card
STB Video Rage
Tseng ET4000
OAK TECH MODEL 87 W/TRIDENT 81DAC CHIPSET.
STB LIGHTSPEED 128
DIAMOND STEALTH 128
DIAMOND 3D RAGE VIDEO CARD.
MATROX MILLENIUM
Hercules Dynamite 128. :)

Oh finally i've noticed an icon of ATI in the right end in the taskbar , when i click on it i can automatically choose the reso , and also the color bits , the first one works fine with tr1 , but the second 600x800 (i think) doesn't , so this icon is helpful , instead of right clicking on the wallpaper , settings ..., etc :)

And ....

Don't expect that this game will run in higher resolution, your graphics card is very very old and has 4MB of memory only. Original Voodoo card had 4MB too and could run games in 640x480 or lower resolution only.

C:\Temp! Not C:\WINDOWS\Temp.

C:\Temp will exist only once you enabled the printscreen function in DgVoodooSetup in TOMBRAID, open it by double-clicking. First select DOS platform. On the Global tab, tick ON "Screencapturing on".

Nop , nop and nop ! :D

1-when i choose DOS , and then screen capturing on : what should i select "in file" or "clipboard" ? because when i select each one i return to C and i do not find the new folder called "Temp" .

2-I Can hear ALL THE SOUNDS IN THE GAME and also the secret found sound , EXCEPT THe main theme music ! any solution for this ?

3-And jo , can you give me please the link of something which let you know how to configure your USB controller with TR1 , because i have it , but i can only use the D-pad :D , help ! :D

Thanks in advance :wve: :)

Joseph

1. In file. If the Temp folder is not created, you can create it yourself. Make sure it is located: C:\Temp.
2. Make sure the CD is in your first player. Wait a bit because the CD needs to be read before it starts playing. But if you don't hear the Main theme at the Passport menu, you will also miss the ingame environmental sounds and some dialogs, because they belong to the 9 audiotracks. Make sure you have "digital sound" enabled. Read this (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showpost.php?p=364127&postcount=4).
3. From our TR1 FAQ: » JoyToKey (Download (http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA016823/joytokey/english.html) - Freeware)
This program can be used to drive your PSX Gamepad on the PC. You can purchase a PSX/PC converter and use an application called JoyToKey, which is a keyboard emulator for joysticks. See related Tech Thread (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=50243). If the site isn't available use this alternate download (http://neteru.tombraiderforums.com/files/jtk379en.zip).

"pressed pause Attn".

I meant the Pause button your keyboard. see HERE (http://www.jhu.edu/cty/writing/techhelp/images/printscreenbutton.jpg). 2 keys to right from the finger.

and concerning the main theme music ? :p

And the volume is in the MAX !!!
but as i said i can hear everything !
OK , if no way , then no problem it's only the main theme music ! :(

Joseph
14-10-06, 23:21
Ok ok ok. But the main title should play! On the TR1 cd there are 9 audiotracks that you can play in Windows Media Player, one of which is the theme music. If it is on the CD at all you should hear it in WMP. :)

The F3 key on your keyboard. Hit it once to trigger the white outlinings. Hit again to remove them. :)

Completely messed up environments. Try: in DgVoodoo Setup, changing the Colorkeying Method to Alpha Based.

Sorry i had to go
Raiderfun, please learn to edit your pictures to web-format. 850 kB for a tiny picture, taking 3 minutes to load, is far too much. And simply crop the part that is essential.

Try to use .gif or jpeg format.

Hello Back joseph :) :wve:
Today , i checked the windows's official site , to see the minimum configurations of WinXP :D , and i found that all those specs are supported , and i installed it , ran it , it runs very very smoothly , and i do not regret that . :D :D ;)
Ok , but let's return to the main problems :

1-Installed WDM , installed ATR , with dgvoodooo. When i run the TR(glide) in the desktop , i can hear the introduction movies sounds , but i cannot see them , and when i press Esc twice time (to skip them) , the game crashes automatically to windows . Any solution please ? :)

2-SOMETIMES or MOST OF TIME, when i double click , on dgvoodoo , i receive an error message message saying : "dgvoodooo is set to work as VDD , you cannot run serverprocess" , i don't know why i receive this ? i reran ATR manytimes without ticking the box "disable VDD mode" , and the problem is still occuring ...

3-Help please : Joseph , i have XPSP2 installed now , but i wanna install 98 too , for something .... i'm afraid if it replaces XP , SOMETIMES they ask you in the beginning to choose the repertory , in default , it's C:\Windows , but c:windows currently is XP's one , so where can i install this please ?
And how to switch between the 2 OS in the starting , thanks in advance ! :) ;)

Hello Raiderfun.
Well that's easy: you don't have space enough for dual-boot on this 10 GB harddiskdrive! The hdd would be completely full and there would be no room for files, and you would not be able to defragment anymore etc.

IF your hdd would be larger, you would first format and create two partitions, then install W98 on C:\, and XP on D:\.
W98 always must be installed on C, you cannot install it after XP.

1- I suppose you mean VDMSound 2.10 and not "WDM" (?)... Anyway, have you tried these both:
» I start Tomb Raider, there is a background sound, but I don't see any introduction movies.
Start the game by double clicking on TOMB.VLP file located in C:\TOMBRAID folder or click on TR desktop shortcut if it's created. Press ESC key two times to skip introduction movies. After few moments you will be in the game main screen and ready to go raiding.
» Game crashes to desktop immediately just before introduction FMV (WinXP SP2).
This may be due to the VDMSound settings. Right-click on Tomb Raider (Glide) shortcut, click Properties, in VDMSound tab click Advanced, choose SoundBlaster tab, and set DSP ver. to 3.02 SoundBlaster Pro 2. All other settings except from Sound Blaster 16 work as well.

2- Before you make changes in DgVoodoo.setup you must first terminate dgvoodoo.exe. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del (open Taskmanager), select the Processes tab, right-click dgvoodoo.exe, select "end process".
If you still receive the same message, terminate the ntvdm.exe process as well.

VERY URGENT PROBLEM :

Please can you help me , in my dad's computer , when i click on "shut down" in start menu , nothing happens there , i recklick manytimes again , nothing happened there ... :( *feel desperate* , and yesterday we didn't have the choice so we pressed automatically the the shut off button in the motherboard , but today , when we turned on the computer , just before the log in screen where we enter the password , i received a Dos message of "logon" , they tell me , to press "Enter" or "Ctrl+c" . I pressed randomly a button and finally i saw this password screen .
But yesterday i modified something in System32 in Windows , because i wanted to change the log-on screen , but i'm afraid if i done a mistake :(

And i ran also the restauration of system to see , but i didn't understand anything there

So joseph , please can you help , it's very very urgent please . :(

Have you tried System Restore (to restore what you did in System32 folder)?
Start > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Select a restore point earlier than what you did.

If a shutdown does not react immediately, just give it time. Maybe you have overlooked that it is automatically installing Windows updates.

I did that , but it doesn't work :p :p
my dad did something , i didn't see what he did , but the computer is working fine now , and he's very furious !

and jo concerning , the tr1 faq, i read it 5 five times , and tried those things many times, and i configurate the proprieties of VDM to pro 2 :p :D , same problem again, i can play tr1 only from the CD

Any solution ? please ? :) :)
