Bully to Be Judged
A court in Florida will decide whether or not the game is a public nuisance.
by Daemon Hatfield (http://ps2.ign.com/email.html)

October 11, 2006 - Today, in a courtroom in Florida, attorneys for Take-Two, Wal-Mart, and GameStop appeared to defend next week's release of Bully (http://ps2.ign.com/objects/746/746536.html). Anti-videogame crusader Jack Thompson had previously made a bid to keep the game from being sold in the state on grounds that it is a "public nuisance." The hearing ended with an unprecedented order from Judge Ronald Friedman.

Take-Two has 24 hours to produce Friedman with a copy of Bully. The judge will review the game as it is being played, for 100 hours or more, and then decide whether or not Thompson's claims are valid. If the two agree, retailers will be prohibited from selling the Teen-rated game to minors. For their part, Wal-Mart and GameStop are worried about losing sales should the legislation pass.

Bully has been receiving lots of press in the ramp up to next week's release, and it's looking like the game isn't quite what its detractors have made it out to be. Previews reveal that the title is low on the violence developer Rockstar has become known for, and high on social commentary about how rough school can be for kids.

MY COMMENT: Exactly how long do we have to wait before a court rules that Jack Thompson is a public nuisance??? How many cases does this guy have to lose (lets pray he loses this one) before a judge fines him for bringing these lawsuits which, by their nature, are mostly just for show?

This doesn't affect Canis Canem Edit (euro version)?

Only Florida, right=?

I find it disgusting and offensive.

(The nanny state rulings, not the game)

How many times do I have to repeat it? DON'T PENALISE THE MAJORITY BECAUSE OF THE MINORITY!

Yeah, Florida... although it could set a precedent for other areas. Europe seems to be even more sensitive about "political correctness" so I'd worry no-matter where you live.

Damn, that'd be a cool job ;)

I'm really indifferent about this game now.

Time to bully Mr. Johnson if you live in Florida. His head would be better off in the toilet, than up his own arse. :)

Just wait till the Daily Mail mob start complaining about the game...without even finding out what its about.

Main Character Jimmy Hopkins is the bullied....not the bully.
Main aim of the game is to get through a year of boarding school without getting expelled.

Oh for the love of God! Get over it people!!! If you just can't stand some game being released then just ignore it. Don't sue the developers. If this is about the old "Kids will get violent and crap after playing this game" **** again then I'm going crazy! Kids SHOULDN'T play these games! Parents SHOULD become more responcible and ESRB/PEGI should BE! MORE! STRICT! Have LARGER age ratings! Stick a signal on the cover that says "Absolutely NOT for anyone under 18!" Stop suing Rockstar!!! They didn't do anything wrong!!!

PS: Canis Canem Edit is the stupidest remaning I've heard since the Wii!

Canis canem edit isn't rated 18 btw. Its not a violent game at all and is suitable for teens. Just this rating should be proof enough this game is fine. Kids playing this game is fine. It is NOT violent. People assume its violent just because its rockstar. Rockstar are capable of making games other than GTA. They made a table tennis game. This is NOT GTA in schools.
