Hi, I use Windows Vista Ultimate (RTM, build 6000, 32-bit) and I'm trying to run C&C Renegade but it ain't working.
Also compatibility mode ain't working.
My system specs are:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 3500+ 2,20 GHz
512 MB
Ati Radeon X300
I use the latest Ati driver and stuff.
I hope that someone can help me, cuz I really wanna play this game again!
BTW, Merry Christmas all! ;)
Hi r67 and welcome to our forums. :)
As you can read in the list, i cannot get the game running (nor on ATI as on nVidia) as well. It is AnXa who claims it runs fine on his machine.
The reason it doesn't work on your and my ATI is because of the bad OpenGL implementation in the Catalyst for Vista RTM drivers (that's why Doom3 does not play either),
and the reason it does not work on my other machine with nVidia 7800GT is because the inbuilt nVidia drivers in Vista RC2 are not good, and the latest nVidia drivers refuse to install here.
Update. Latest Creative X-Fi Beta for Vista driver.

You mentioned call of duty and UO, but how does Call of Duty 2 fair on Vista? I am also wondering about Rome total war and medieval 2 total war games on vista? With it being microsoft I assume that AOE3 works by default without problems.
If i would posess Call of Duty2 i certainly would have tested and put it in the list. :) But i suppose it will run.
Yes you can count on it that all Microsft games will run by default on Vista without any problem, like those i tested do. :)

Thanks for the reply. I love COD2 to bits, just angry at the fact they didnt make COD3 for PC.
Maybe it is yet to come... who knows? Or won't they?

The bad news is that this Catalyst doesn't embed completely in Vista RC2 (which i'm running). The Catalyst Control Center does not launch. Doom3 runs, seemingly in 8 bit mode, and only at 640x480. Although i did my settings: 1600x1200 - AA16x - Ultra High Quality. Relaunch game, even rebooted PC, but the settings are simply not applied.
But the graphics are not corrupted anymore as was with the previous Vista RTM Catalyst. Good thing. :tmb:
Hello, I know I haven't writen here for a long time but I just remembered this board when Vista got published officially. I haven't got my Windows Vista yet but I will soon get it. That's when the real testing starts.
ATi is currently at lead in Windows Vista drivers quality or they have just renamed their beta drivers to be "1.0"... ;)
nVidia is still in beta phase but I think it will get Windows Vista drivers out in a next couple weeks or so. Joseph have you tried the lastest RTM drivers from nVidia?
I bought some upgrades to my machine also for sake of Windows Vista. I'm now running on nVidia 7600GT and with 3 Gbs of Dual Channel 400 MHz DDR RAM. :)
I bought Windows Vista Home Premium ( OEM, of course ) for my moms computer, but I am not sure when to get Windows Vista Ultimate. I think I'll wait for Service Pack 1 aka "Fiji" to be implemented first into Install DVDs and then buy it. Maybe price cut on retail might help to do the decicion. :)
At the moment I'm very happy with my Gnu/Linux installations, they run native Quake 1 thought 4 better than they do on XP. And I'v pretty much already tested my favorite games on Vista relase candinates. I'v posted most results here. :P
Have you guys got Windows Vista yet? Or are you just waiting for right spot to get it?
Hi, I use Windows Vista Ultimate (RTM, build 6000, 32-bit) and I'm trying to run C&C Renegade but it ain't working.
Also compatibility mode ain't working.
My system specs are:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 3500+ 2,20 GHz
512 MB
Ati Radeon X300
I use the latest Ati driver and stuff.
I hope that someone can help me, cuz I really wanna play this game again!
BTW, Merry Christmas all! ;)
I'd love to make it work on ATi card just like that but you know ATi is spesialized in DirectX rendering engines.
OPINION: And ATi does bad job on OpenGL which is _a lot_ better API over DirectX. OpenGL is not complex to program but it has hmm... needs which are hard to implement into drivers. As a result OpenGL is more flexible than DirecX and in hands of right programmer OpenGL produces graphics which are _a lot better_ when compared against DirectX. With OpenGL 2.1 spesified cards it's in theory possible to produce Anti-Aliasing and Bloom alike HDR effects also if the card has enought power. DirectX cannot do this at least versions up to DX9L. I don't know about DirectX10 API but it's supposed to do this also as it's designed to give that flexibility for graphics programmers.
You can wait for ATi ( or should I say DAMMIT ) to produce better OpenGL driver for Windows Vista. Windows Vista doesn't have native support for OpenGL. Microsoft has done an implementation which translates OpenGL API calls in to DirectX API calls and makes OpenGL stuff run on DirectX rendering engine. That's the reason for some nVidia cards to fail on OpenGL performance in early Windows Vista betas.
IMPORTANT PART:
Microsoft has provided fallback support for OpenGL in Windows Vista also. But it means that you have to disable AERO can start game using Vista basic or Vista Classic. I doupt it will help ATi's driver but you should check it out. It will then use XP alike OpenGL native API implementation.
OPINION: You might also consider getting cheap nVidia card. What nVidia does better than ATi? Well you get full Linux rendering support, full OpenGL standard 2.1 implemention support ( ATi does only 1.5 which doesn't even understand complex shaders well R600 is supposed to be 2.2 OpenGL specs supported card. ), only 1-2% worse performance on games made for ATi on similar cards, 1-2% better performance against similar ATi cards on nVidia games.
But like I spoke it out earlier, ATi has at the moment bit better drivers for DirectX rendering on Windows Vista. But nVidia still does better job with OpenGL implementions in Windows Vista. That's actually the spot they're stuck on Widows Vista driver development, you can ask from nvidia forums for that. :P
I think that DAMMIT will make Renegade run on Windows Vista but it takes some time for them to produce better driver for it. Even nVidia haven't got their drivers suitably tested and developed yet for Windows Vista.
Hello AnXa, nice to see you back. :)
The recent ATI Catalyst for Vista has OpenGL support, and as you can read in the release notes Quake4 is running fine and Doom3 also btw. I tried it and i saw improvement in the game(s) but because this Catalyst does not run correctly on the Vista RC2; you need the final Vista. I have only RC2 so i went back to the RTM beta Catalyst.
Joseph - You planning on getting released version soon?
No Jay, i plan on keeping this Vista RTC2 till June, and maybe buying it then, but i'm not in a hurry, as XP performance in games is still superior and all my applications run on XP and very few compatible in Vista.
SurRender 3D 007
10-02-07, 16:51
... I am from Finland and I can even make a bet of it that Renegade runs on highly modified Hybrid Graphics Co. product SurRender 3D. (as a interesting side note: Hybrid Graphics Co. is today owned by nVidia and they as specialists in 3D graphic systems used in cell phones...)
SurRended 3D is 3D engine which has no specialism in some particular task like Unreal Warfare or Doom3-generation of IdEngine which are both intended as FPS Engines for such games. SurRender is generic engine which can be used easily in everyway you want. ...Hi all, where can I download SurRender 3D?
Nowhere (as far as i know). Because the project was stopped, and the earlier versions were retracted. Sites previously offering it have retracted.

Creative ALchemy Project
al-che-my [al-kuh-mee] ~ any magical power or process of transmuting a common substance, usually of little value, into a substance of great value. - Dictionary.com
Welcome to the Creative ALchemy Project Beta Site
In Windows Vista, Microsoft has decided to remove the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) for DirectSound and DirectSound3D. The HAL is the software layer that on previous Windows Operating Systems enabled an audio accelerator such as the SB X-Fi, to provide DirectSound3D applications with hardware accelerated audio. This enabled soundcards to perform tasks such as sample-rate conversion, mixing, 3D spatialization using HRTFs, filtering, and effects processing. Without the HAL, DirectSound on Windows Vista will be rendered in software with no advanced functionality such as EAX.
The audio changes in Windows Vista do not affect OpenAL however. For audio cards that feature 'native' OpenAL support, such as the SB X-Fi series of cards, there is no need to worry! Games that enable support for OpenAL will continue to run just as they do on Windows XP - with hardware accelerated audio and effects.
Although OpenAL has arguably replaced DirectSound3D, particularly in many modern PC Games (e.g Battlefield 2142, Doom3, Quake 4, Prey, etc ...), there are hundreds of older PC games that support DirectSound3D and EAX technology --- all of these games will sound empty and lifeless on Vista. As most DS3D games only enable 3D Audio (and EAX) if a hardware accelerator is present, most of these games will be reduced to a stereo output.
The good news is that the Creative ALchemy Project allows you to run your favorite DirectSound3D games on Windows Vista as the developers intended - with full hardware accelerated 3D Audio and EAX support! This is done by translating DirectSound calls into OpenAL. In order for this to happen, a couple of files need to be installed into each game directory. This is handled automatically by the ALchemy installer - but can also be performed manually by advanced users.
The Creative ALchemy Project is still in beta, and the ALchemy installer only supports a relatively small number of PC games at the moment. However, with your help, we would like to add more titles to the list (http://preview.creativelabs.com/alchemy/Lists/Games/AllItems.aspx) so please download the ALchemy installer, run it, enjoy 3D Audio and EAX effects in your favorite games.
Advanced users should download the "Advanced Users" document in the downloads area (requires Acrobat Reader) to learn how to use ALchemy in games that aren't officially supported. Please share your experiences with ALchemy in our General Discussion (http://preview.creativelabs.com/alchemy/Lists/General%20Discussion/AllItems.aspx) message board.
Note: It is not necessary to use ALchemy if your game supports OpenAL. Not sure if your game is an OpenAL title? Here is a list of current OpenAL games (http://www.openal.org/titles.html) .
Webmasters: Please do not link to the files below. Please link to our main page. Thank you. Requirements:
Windows Vista
SB X-Fi* series of soundcard with native OpenAL 1.1 Support
You can download the latest (beta) drivers for SB X-Fi for Windows Vista from www.soundblaster.com (http://www.soundblaster.com/)
Please do not contact your game's publisher, developer or Creative Labs with problems resulting from the use of ALchemy. Instead, use the Bug Reporting (http://preview.creativelabs.com/alchemy/Lists/Bug%20Reporting/AllItems.aspx) discussion board located on this website.

Is this a deja vu? I thought I read this article before... on this forum... in the Tech Support :)
It needs to be posted here as it's relevant to the topic (and linked to it in the first post).
I also posted it seperately as a thread to give opportunity for discussion about it specifically.
I was joking, Joseph.
If you think this article should have its own thread and be posted here as well it's fine with me.
:wve:
Ah, ok. :D Do you have the X-Fi too? :)
Great work, Joseph!
Any update on Fighting Force compatibility? I really want to play that game...can I atleast get it to work on XP?
Thanks!

Joesph is no longer around the forums anymore so he couldn't tell you (he was a great mod though).
Also please don't bring up old threads like these - It's against the forum rules and the full version is now already released anyway.
But you never know, someone might be able to let you know. Cant you try it yourself now that Vista has been released anyway?
I did try it on Vista. It doesn't work...same problem that Joseph mentioned.
I wanted to know if maybe a patch or something was released so that it is compatible with Vista or XP...
If anybody gets a patch or something, please let me know,
Thanks.
i desperately need help:
Counter Strike: Condition Zero + Deleteted Scenes on nVidia card (GF7800GT). Installs fine. After doubleclick Icon on Dektop, error: "conflict with disc emulation software, contact Securom." But open and close tray and selecting "Allow" for the autorun-menu to run, causes no problem and game launches. This is an nVidia card so we select OpenGL, and it runs superbly!
can anybody explain to me what "But open and close tray and selecting "Allow" for the autorun-menu to run, causes no problem and game launches" means? i know the meaning of the words but i dont understand the sentence - so what do i have to do, to get cs:cz working on vista?
im totaly in despair... :( and google isnt helping me today
Hi Bris :wve:
Next time start a new thread on your problem instead of necroposting :)
You need to open your CD/DVD-ROM and close it and when system prompts for autorun menu allow it to show.
Omg I Thought Josef Was Back For A Sec!!
