I'm going to give Linux a go on my oldest computer just to see if it's worth keeping. :p

Does anyone know where to download or buy it from? :)

There are many different builds of linux available.

One of the best is considered to be Knoppix - http://www.knoppix.org/

It's FREE. For a hardly spoken about OS, a lot of magazines seem to have the penguin on the cover:).

What OS do you think Apache web server runs on?

Most noteworthy ones, including even such crap as Windows.

Knoppix is something that I can recommed, too, but it is not ideal for installing, more a tool for trouble-shooting a PC where another OS is already installed. Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/) is very nice, but not that well on older computers. There are different variants like Kubuntu or Xubuntu (which is meant especially for older computers). You can even get the normal Ubuntu shipped to you on CD for free.

Thanks for your links. :tmb:

I'm downloading "Ubuntu". I'll install it tonight and see if I like it. ;)

Ubuntu will send you more than one copy of the software free of charge so you can give it away to your friends. I asked for and received 10 copies myself.
