I was wondering...can you open Laras textures in GIMP?
What I have done is to setup texmod (from our beloved Tomb Raider HUB (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/tr7/modding/index.html)) to export the textures as PNG files, then the GIMP (http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/) can open them directly. I downloaded the nvidia "nvdxt" tool (http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nv_texture_tools.html) and before I create the TPF file I use nvdxt to convert the PNG files to DDS files. You want to do the conversion back because not only does the DDS file contain the "mipmap" information for the texture, it's also (most of the time) smaller than the PNG file.
I create a Makefile (a unix utility from the cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com/) package for windows) in each project to do the conversions. I use Makefile's because they are much better than BAT files, but the main idea is to have a script that will do the conversion for you so you don't forget :)
Here is an example Makefile I am using for the "Sheer Evening Delight" project:

:D Wow @ England reloaded... I found it difficult enough to traverse down all those ledges in the tomb without all the distracting matrix codey things- can't wait to try it :p
And yes there IS only around 400 textures in Peru, I checked. When I counted (well I didn't count them all lol, I just checked it out in the folder options thingy), I had all my previous and future "Wonderland" textures in the folder (so that would include Bolivia and snippets of Japan as well) :o my mistake!

muahaha i LOVE the giant snake :D can't wait to see how it looks in your modding... eventually I hope to mod the wonderland version of england and i have some interesting ideas for the snake (my fave enemy in legend- okay mainly just because i love dragons/reptiles, but still... the snake is just soooo pretty:hug: )

I'm attempting Japan at the moment... I modded loads of the textures because I was going to just go for a black, white and red look but I forgot about the coloured ambient lights :p so all the black and white bits were just completely pointless and it looked weeeeird :D But the level will be "the mad hatters tea party" so I'll try and stick on that theme... and take ambient light into consideration:p

Then the difference is simply that, @zipper.
.bmp does not have compression and any texture that takes to a channel alpha, in addition, can triple (or more) its size if you do not transform it into the suitable format.

I have made a small guide to @zipper, but I think that she would be of utility that modders that is transforming levels, also had it, so that they do not have a so big size.
Ok, you must save all the textures in .dds format first.

You can make all your changes in the texture of the form that you want….

When you makes the changes in these textures, then save them thus:
First. You must unmark to the option “alpha channel”, because if in some cases .dds will not let to you save the texture in format.
This form you make sure that although you have 15 layers for the texture, you will be able to save it.

For some very special texture, like for example, the spots that appear to him to Lara when it is soiled, if you want them to change of color.
You must prove with this configuration, but nonmemory very well if it is the exact configuration.

I liked it, with the city instead of mountains. :) Sorry Baby Jane, but I have real trouble with importing and exporting TPF's on my TEXMOD program...I can get TEXMOD to work allright, but my tpf's dont work on anyone elses computer, and I cannot download other peoples either without it being corrupted. Why I just don't know. I must try it on a different computer some time.
All I can recommend is that you download a large photo of a 'future type' city, then replace the two background textures for the start of the peru level, (one normal & one reversed of the photo, so it joins up).
Also this level warps the background texture blocks, so that if the buildings are too high, they end up looking liked pulled toffee, so keep them at a maximum half way up the texture block, and leave the rest as sky :D

The first part of the level (the town) is almost finished. I've some details to change. The most difficult is to find a different idea for the different textures. I don't want them to be all the same. I've got to vary the textures, but with the theme I choosed, i'ts difficult sometimes to find pictures apropriate.
I'll post some screenies when the first part will be totally finished. ;)

Here is a snapshot from my (finally!) completed "Sheer Evening Delight" outfit.

To create this outfit I modified the "evening-ripped" base outfit and it's unripped counterpart. Lara is now sporting a black lace brassiere, gold earrings and necklace, painted fingernails and toenails, new eyeshadow and lip color as well as a my trademark navel jewel :)

I've noticed that I had to activate a key called "Fn", written in blue letters on my laptup (located between the "Ctrl" and "Windows" keys on the left corner of the pad), that activates some keys in blue on the computer... I'm so stupid, I didn't think about that! I never use those blue keys, so I didn't know this "Fn" key could do that! Shame on me... -_-'
(Well, there is a lot of similar keys on those ****** ******* laptups! Very irksome sometimes...) :hea:*

I'll be away from the forum for some days (starting from Friday night) because I have to deal with some things regarding my internet connection. I'll install a new line, which will give me faster internet. I'll try to come online from another PC, which has ADSL connection, so keep sending me your outfits. There was a long time I haven't posted a preview of one of my latest creations in here so... this is what I started to do there is a couple of weeks now.
I didn't work on this modding recently because - like I said previously - my dvd player is actually dying so that's sometimes hard to run the game correctly. I haven't received the new one yet, I will receive it probably tomorrow or the day after.

I'm trying my hand at reskinning outfits, and I need a little help with transparencies. I know how to make a part of an outfit transparent, but I don't know how I'm supposed to go about making it so I'm not looking through Lara's entire body on those sections. To be a little more clear, the stockings on a number of the dress mods that were made is the effect I'm going for.
I've tried searching for any information or tricks on how to get this effect right, but haven't come up with anything so far. If anyone can help me out here, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. :)

You must know that when you make specific parts of an outfit invisible, you will not find skin, but, as you said, literally nothing below, as creators haven't been bothering with that. That can be solved with copying and pasting parts of skin from another texture, although not in all situations.
I hope one day soon we will be able to edit the meshes :rolleyes:

No ! The DDS plugin is necessary only if you work with Tomb Ripper ! :wve:

Hi Vies! Welcome to the forum. :wve:
About your question: if you are specifically interested in making transparent stockings, sleeves, or other similar items (that is, creating an effect in which Lara's skin is covered with what looks like a transparent material), then you just have to fill in the skin area with a transparent colour. For example, if you want Lara to be wearing transparent blue stockings along with her dress, then all you need to do is open the corresponding file which has the texture of Lara's legs, select the leg bits, and fill with a blue colour, after setting the colour opacity at less than 100% (for example, 50% opacity for a medium degree of transparency). This will produce the required effect.
(This applies mainly if you are working in Photoshop. If not, please specify the program you are using, so one of us can guide you accordingly :wve:.)

And yeah, I'm working with photoshop for now, just because the gimp didn't seem to have a way of being able to paint using the alpha channel(as was described here: http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showpost.php?p=865974&postcount=634 ). At least, not that I could see. So, I pretty much have 29 days now to get the outfit I'm working on now finished. :p
@Snazabaz, pretty trousers heavy metal ;) :)

I finally started a tutorial for next-generation outfits. It's a simple mod of the swimsuit that demonstrates the three basic textures that can be modified.

I hope to have it finished within a week. Perhaps it'll open up some more modding possibilities. :mis:
