Photoshop tips

Hurrah! Finally found Photoshop after ages and been messing round with sketches I 'borrowed' off the internet. What do you think? I'd like to make them less 2D but haven't got a clue how to go about it. The skin is really dull; how do you get luminous skin in Photoshop?! :D Any tips would be fab.

Usually by highlights with the dodge tool I pressume.

Look for skin coluring tutorials, they'll usually include some tips about using dodge tools etc and creating shadows/highlights
