I'd post a more up-to-date photo if my camera hadn't broken between me taking the shots and me trying to connect it to the computer. :hea:

Anyway. My hair's currently like this, only a little bit longer (thus floppier and less pr!ckly). I mean 1 or 2 cm's longer, nothing immensely different.

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/663/emoglasses2sb9.jpg

I'm thinking of shaving off the sides, so I can grow the top and back and keep the sides really short. Eventually that would lead into a ponytail or dreadlocks in a ponytail, because I love that style of cut. My friend, however, tells me that that would be a "dyke cut" and it would make me look like a lesbian. :p (note for the millionth time: I AM FEMALE.)

But sooner than all that happens, with or without shaved sides I want to dye it all electric pink, and my sister (a rookie hairdresser) offered to dye the tips black. I reckon that would look pretty cool, but would it suit me?

I have the dress sense of... of a person with very little dress sense. :tea: So before I do anything that'll make me look very daft for weeks, I'd like to hear the opinions of others on whether they reckon it would suit me, or if it's just an idea I should throw into Room 101. :)

Comments/opinions/flames please!

I like the idea of pink shaven hair (with dreadlocks or not), but you'll have to develop some kind of dress sense alongside :) - go all the way! :D

Well, I'd love to help you out. I'm a cosmetology student so you know... when I see something posted like this I jump for joy.

I, like your friend am definitely afraid it'll have that 'dyke' look to it.... HOWEVER... if I got to sit down and play with it... I'd say grow it out a bit... I see you with side-swept bangs and something spikey still. All of course with your electric pink/black ends color scheme. Make sure your hairs in proper health before you go pink because to get the desired color... you'll obviously have to bleach it.

Like the dark headed ones hairstyle: http://www.macchianera.net/images/sm-tatu.jpg

What´s wrong with a dyke cut?!

I´m not an expert, but your hair looks kinda dark, so not sure how the pink would match your eyebrows... Unless you are willing to bleach them! I can imagine you better with some kind of purple colour... :)

But that´s my thought. Just do what YOU want to do! :D

My hair is bleached and my eyebrows are still dark.... ;) I can see the pink. But only if it's a bit longer.

Just the man I was hoping would respond! Thanks Jacob. :tmb:

Regarding dykeness, I've been called a million names like that through school so I'm pretty well immune to what other people think about me. To be honest, it's not so much the looking dyke-ey that I'm concerned about, as just looking like a prat if my idea doesn't work out. :whi:

But keeping it spikey sounds like a plan. Can you tell me what stuff I can use to get my hair to stay up? Regular old hair gel, even the "extra super strength" stuff, doesn't hold it any more. >_< Also I have the problem where I get it looking fine when I'm in the house, but 5 minutes outside the wind's destroyed it.

Well, if it truely doesn't bother you about the dyke comments, then by all means cut it anyway you'd like. The reason I suggested the longer tatu looking cut is that it's easier to manage whereas if you shave anything...your constantly shaving and then when you decide you want a different haircut and style... the growing out period is awfully akward looking. And where gel is concerned...throw it in the trash... for a spiked textured look that you can sport right back into place when the wind blows it down I REALLY suggest a few differnent products (take your pick) by TIGI. The first being Manipulator... it's turquoise and comes in this tiny little canister....GREAT stuff with a good hold time. The Bed Head stick... tiny little aluminum canister with brown paper wrapper, has better hold than manipulator but not as good a hold time. Hard to Get texturizing paste...little blue circle can... great stuff... personally i would use this one out of all of them. But you take your pick of how you want your hair to smell. Which is basically the biggest difference in these products. The problem with gel is that once it's knocked down... by wind or whatnot... the shell it's created when it dried has been broken and all the support is lost... all these products are pastier and can just be pushed back into place. and also that's why i reccommended the hair cut i did... the wind can blow it and it's still going to look proper.

Hmmm. Where would I be able to get those TIGI products? I've never seen any in the shops or chemists. Should I go to a specialist hairdressers supplier?

I don't mind how my hair smells as long as it's not absolutely pungent. Anyone close enough to be smelling my head is too close and too strange for comfort. :cln:

Haha. These products smell really nice actually. Um do you have a Toni & Guy salon anywhere close? They sell them there.

Um I saw you live in Scotland so I looked it up on the TiGi website.

Falkirk. That's about an hour away from where I live.

They sell the stuff online, don't they? I could pester my friend into doing the online bit for me. :p

JACOBryanBURNS
06-11-06, 22:18
Um, you can't buy it directly from the site but if your sister has her beauty/cosmetology license she should be able to go to a professional products store and buy it for relatively cheap. I don't know if it's the same way in Scotland though.... You may have to get it through a salon.

Geck, it might be worth to check out your local hairdressers for TIGI products. Mine (a rather small village salon) stocks and sells them.

VOILA! I found a website for you, Geck.

Manipulator: http://www.salonlines.co.uk/forwomen/index.php?p=1&category_id=170&product_id=308

Bed Head Stick: http://www.salonlines.co.uk/forwomen/index.php?p=1&category_id=170&product_id=306

I couldn't find the other product I mentioned but these two work great, too.

A guy on another forum has a hairstyle similar to what I'd end up with if I get shorn on Thursday:

Imagine that only bright pink with black peppered over it, instead of blue.

I let my hairdresser go wild twice, both times she tried to give me that hairstyle where it's kind of long and flattened at the front and top, and fluffed up at the back.
http://www.thehairstyler.com/images/celebrity/Celebrity_95.jpg

Made me feel like I was wearing a chicken on my head (http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/8918/chickenheadyx6.gif). Hated it. :p

Well I think I'll give it my best shot. I really want to try, at the very least. The hair there's only about 1cm - 2cm long just now so it would only take about a month or two to grow back to normal length if I hate it.

I never let hairdressers at my hair, and haven't for many, many years now. I always do my own.

It's the classic scenario of please just trim it slightly, and you walk out the door with three inches off. :hea:

I tried to trim my own hair once... I was amputating a mullet that had appeared.

The process of fixing the mess I'd made resulted in my first experience of electric clippers. :vlol:

ok you want the truth but be warned and btw im not trying to hurt ya on purpose so dont take it the wrong way.
the hairstlye you want will infact make or proberbly make you look less of a boy/lesbian, people will look at you and think you was just a punk. whereas with your current hair stlye it makes you look like a boy/lesbian so if you dont want to look like that then i would go with the hairstlye. probs go wit the dreads. i understand ppl will look at you and think your a boy because you do look like one. you dree like a boy and have hair like one too. i understand how ppl can get confused because its happend to me on a few occasions where ppl have seen me or seen a picture and didnt know if it was a boy or girl because of the hairstyle etc. i understand cause i see it too whereas alot of ppl cant see it in themselves. i dont mind because i like the attention and like being stared at but i dont do it on purpose its just my style, very lita/jeff/avril a guy with long hair who has very feminine features. im not saying you should change your style because if your happy then thats all that matters but if your trying to get away from the boyish look then i would grow your hair longer and get the dreads and maybe even dress a bit more girly, im not saying go out and buy dress's im just saying wear more fitted clothes which doesnt make ya look like a boy. i dont see owt wrong wit ya look i think everyone would be boring if we was all the same but like im saying is other ppl will keep percieving you as a lesbian/boy if ya keep dressing and looking the way you are with your style and that if you dont want to be percieved like that then you need to change it fast.
i hope it helped ya and didnt offend ya cause i wasnt being mean or owt i was just trying to show ya how other ppl might percieve you etc. :-)

Yeah I realised that I look way too boyish as I am, which is a big factor in wanting to get a totally new haircut and look.

I quite like the punk look, if half the people who see me think I'm a punk and the other half think I'm a dyke, it'll be an improvement from the current situation. :p

I usually let the hairdressers do the thing, except this time experimented by myself... turned out looking like a umm.. criminal? not that bad actually, just shortened a bit and smoothed back :D

I'm not really too bothered with my hair as long as it's reasonably tidy looking. I used to have a terrible mid 1970s look, but now I like it shorter. I try to go for a parting on the left hand side, but it doesn't part quite as well as I would like.

you see i think you should go for it if you feel comfortable and really want a change. if ya dont feel comfortable then dont do it. at the end of the day its you who has to decide so go with what your heart tells ya. im kinda inthe same situation. ive been growing my hair for over a year and its really long but iwant it to bea bit longer and then get it cut properly cause its not the same level causei used to have a mowhawk lol. im decideing if i should dye my hair blonde like kendra wilkinson (playmate) or if i should dye it brown/red lita style lol. so i kinda see why ya want other ppls opinions.

When u decide your hair color and cut,you must think what is closer to your style.I always wanted shaved sides, but it would make me look like someone that's not really me.I would advise you to choose a more girly haircut but a little extreme too if u like.I say definately leave them to grow a lot,u will look more feminine.

Go for the pink,though!!!!!!!:D

I've had the hairstyle you speak of. The sides cut very short yet I had the 'mohawk' which was mid-back length as dreads of black and some pink. Also a fringe. It was definately wild and I loved it. Yet I got lazy of always keeping up with it so I go back to my blonde state and start fresh.

I think a (mohawk?) would look great on you!

Geck-o-Lizard
07-11-06, 18:31
Without the fringe, that sounds exactly like what I'm hoping I'll have a year or two from now, lol. Bet it looked awsome! :D Got any pics of when you had it like that?

Angel666
07-11-06, 20:55
I would never ever be brave enough to go that short. For years I had my hair to my butt and recently cut it off to my shoulders. I didn't tell my family I was doing it and it was quite a shock.

'Tis done! It's really quite subtle, but I love it so much. My hairdreser shaved the sides down to about 5mm, and restyled the top and back so I can shape it up fauxhawk style. Looks and feels much better than my girl-sideburns from before. :D

Btw the colour hasn't been changed. It just looks red here because my sister's camera is off-white. >_>

Did they do yours with a gun? Those things are pretty notorious for causing a lot of damage. Perhaps try getting re-pierced with a needle if you still feel the urge to get metal in you. Mine hurts a bit when I nudge it, but it's that familiar "leave me alone! I'm healing, damnit!" pain. :D

I wasn't looking :D but I got mine done at a chemist so god only knows what they used. I probably should have gone to a place where they only do body piercing. I might look into again if I can pluck up the courage.
