View Full Version : Just got done talking to a friend of mine who's working on Anniversary.
I chatted with him a bit about the game.
He's a first-class concept artist (he's worked on A-level games and movies, including Star Wars stuff) and I was thrilled to hear that he was assigned many of the Greek and Egyptian zones. In particular, he mentioned the tall chamber inside the Sphinx (the one that's half-full of water, with two massive statues in it), which is perhaps my single favorite room in the original game. He says that he re-imagined it without altering the fundamental design, and that the people at CD/Eidos remarked that it's one of the best concept artworks that he's done. Should be very cool to see.
He's not working on the sequel to Legends, but he has seen some of the game as it stands thus far. I won't bother writing what he said because it isn't much (he's under NDA, of course), and because he remarked that none of the info would be new to a fan site such as this one (and I suppose that he's right).

Cool. Can you post links to some of his previous work? I'd like to see what to expect (I would prefer to see the TRA pics directly, of course, but I assume you can't show us those yet). I'm also eager to know what the gameplay is like, and if the environments are strictly linear or are explorable. If you can answer any of those questions, I'd appreciate it (although I understand if you're not allowed to say anything).
Cool! Tell him to get us some screen shots. :p

We didn't talk about that. He just made a few comments about the graphics engine and Lara's new adventuring abilities.

Wow, those are great :D The environments look deliciously detailed and explorable. I hope that gets translated into the game design and gameplay for TRA :D

*shrugs* He gave us his friend's name, so obviously he didn't relay anything that would break his friend's non-disclosure agreement.
Thanks for the info MiloDC. It looks and sounds very exciting.
Cool, hopefully Lara can swim properly again, and hold her breath an unnaturally long time! :jmp:

Heh, well again, he's obviously under NDA, and since he's very professional about his work, he never tells me anything that would constitute a breach of his contract (as far as he knows, anyway).
That's why I figured it would be useless to relay anything that he told me. Fans tend to know more about a game than people who are contracted to work on it off-site. What he had to say was news to me, but I think that everyone here would find the information stale.
Mainly, I just wanted to get across that, from an artistic standpoint, Anniversary seems to be shaping up into something very special.

thanks for the info MiloDC. welcome to TRF.
Anniversary seems to be shaping up into something very special. I expected no less.

60 seconds is unnaturally long? I know people who can hold them for 300.
Thanks for the info, traitor. ;) j/k

Exactly, Legend lara is really real and then unreal, she can hold her breath for like 30 seconds and then can only run and jump about ten, but then she can slide away from bad guys in a second? IN the Anniversary keep her real, but give her a little more ability at least 60 to 75 seconds underwater, running jump about 15 feet. I liked how she was ultra swift in the original, she is much more acrobatic in Legend which I like!
