for the last two days my pc has been re-starting itself, and especially today it has restarted itself 2 times in a row. :hea:

when it started again it asked me if i wanted to start windows when my settings worked fine or start windows normally, i chose the worked fine one.
when i logged on a message saying 'windows has recovered from a serious error' came up. i chose to 'send error report' and it came back with this screen:
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?SGD=a9084744-19e8-41d4-a73a-c2c0a19ed8c6&SID=10

it says something about an unknown device driver being the reason why but they don't know how to solve the problem.
the only driver i can think of is the one i installed for my gamepad as i put that on my pc yesterday, could it be that?
if anyone on here could help me i'd be very greatfull!

You must have an antivirus application installed. If not, download and install AVG - Free version (http://www.free-av.com/) and after that, update it with the latest virusdefinitions. Next, let the program perform a full system scan.

Install a firewall. However, WindowsXP inbuilt firewall helps some as long as it is enabled.
>>> ZoneAlarm <<< (http://www.download.com/3000-2092-10039884.html) is a free, famous prizewinning firewall.
Before installing it, first disable WindowsXP firewall.

Next Free programs are equally essential:
Please download and install http://www.download.com/3405-8022-5153545.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5 ----Ad-Aware SE then go check for updates. Next run the program, and delete the bad files it finds.

Next, download and install http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/ ---- Spybot Search and Destroy then go check for updates. Next run the program, and delete the bad files it finds.

Next, download and install Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html)then go check for updates. This program prevents malware to enter your pc.

Anyway, Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D are programs that in principle do the same, but as themselves are not complete (both are freeware you know) so they 'overlap' each other. That is why it is recommended to run both programs side by side, one after the other, so: both.

OK. what i see from Ewido looks good. :tmb: There is no problem running all three programs after each other to get the baddy this time.

Ewido is fine running alongside Antivirus I've used it in conjunction with Norton AV, AVG and Avast antivirus software, not all at the same time I hasten to add.

I'm probably stating the obvious here but have you tried uninstalling that new driver you mentioned? You can always re-install it if thats not whats causing the problem.
