Are we talking about the same thing, laralives? I mean that the shadow- and shaders corruption that sneaked into the ATI Catalyst drivers since version 6.4 is finally fixed.

Anyway, here are some pictures i just took using Catalyst 6.11.
Originals were 1600x1200.

and here it is illustrated:
Catalyst 6.6 out! (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=68693) EDIT: btw, this (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showpost.php?p=1034185&postcount=11)is not ATI's fault, as it looks on the nVidia 7800GT the same. It is definately Crystal Dynamics fault.

ATI Catalyst 6.8 out. But Catalyst 6.3 still is the best for Legend.. (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=72656)

It stayed bad untill today! :tmb: :D

No i wasn't logged off. That green light turns into grey after a few minutes (5? 10?) of no browsing action, i did the testing on another PC, my new one.

loool,great:)

so hows the next gen hack? would it be slower or the same?

and is it faster?

Joseph
16-11-06, 06:37
I also tested on my old ATI Radeon9700Pro, and had the impression it looks better as well and is slightly faster too. This Catalyst is really good. There is no reason not to try for yourself. :)

Anyway, here are some pictures i just took using Catalyst 6.11.

http://www.jozefdekkers.nl/Trforum/Legend/legend-ati-611-800-4.jpg

Is it just me or there is something wrong with shadows in this pic?

1. Lara doesn't have a shadow.
2. Above Lara's head, where the mountain's wall is, the shadow looks a bit too dark. Without any shadows at all I can't tell where the source of light is. Joseph, can you take another snapshot in the same location but from a different angle?

Joseph
16-11-06, 09:04
Is this beta or final?Yes this is final.
And the shadow that lara's body should cast on the ground is not always very defined, that happens throughout the game so it's normal.
Ok, i see why you find this picture weird. I'll post some more (have to make them first).

Joseph
16-11-06, 09:30
Here, i made a movie, that's better:

Legend-cat611-Bolivia.avi. (http://www.jozefdekkers.nl/Trforum/Legend/Legend-cat611-bolivia.avi)Should play in WMP. :)

Lord Icon
16-11-06, 10:14
I just downloaded the flic, Joseph. (I don't allow some applications to connect to the Internet). Anyway, I saw for a brief time, the place Lara was standing when you took that pic. Same thing. When the camera is close to Lara and facing the mountain the shadow (on the mountain side) is dark just like in your pic. And Lara briefly doesn't cast shadow. When camera moves higher then the shadow on the mountain is lighter and Lara has one too.

Seems like it's just a tiny imperfection in the game. Not visible during the game play just on still pictures.

Thanks Joseph.

abraham
17-11-06, 10:45
that problem is normal. happens with nvidia drivers aswell.

Joseph
17-11-06, 11:14
Which 'problem'?

laralives
17-11-06, 13:39
I think the "problem" he is talking about is probably the imperfectionies of the shadows how they stutter and appear as Lord Icon mentioned. :)

This is absolutely incredible, Joseph! The game is absolutely different in your computer and mine.
The rocks..., you have much more vegetation! What I don't like too much is the texture of Lara skin, it seems too rough
I must buy a new computer …
Is this Catalyst version better for old-GEN too?

Joseph
17-11-06, 16:24
The Catalyst are the drivers for the videocard, Tampi. They don't change the game or the contents of the game. What you see in my pictures is the vegetation in Next Generation version of Legend.
If you have an ATI card it usually (not always) is best to install the most recent drivers. But if you have a very old or very basic card, it usually is unlikely that it makes a big difference in performance. Performance in the sense of: how well the card communicates with the rest of the PC.
Which card do you have?

I know this:D . I have been having computer for 10 years and I work in electronic(TV). And the one that I have now, I have it wide open, so that one cools off better.
I assemble and disassemble the computer sometimes. I am not an expert but I "handle” everything :cln: :D
I said the one of the vegetation by the NEXT-GEN possibility, in the NEXT-GEN the game seems another one :)

But my question is: if I update drivers of the card I improve the data transmission between motherboard and the videocard and if it will improve the image of the games.
Sometimes I have installed some version of Catalyst, that has slowed down enormously the computer and I have had to return to the previous controllers, reinitiating and initiating.
Now it goes me well, I think, for that reason I asked to you if is advisable to update to this new version of catalyst .
I hope that you understand me. Thanks in advance :)

Sorry Tampi! :D By your name (and lack of info) i thought you were a little kid! :hea: :o mea culpa!

I would say YES these are DirectX9.0c drivers and your 9600 is a 100% DirectX9.0c supporting card, so it would benefit certainly, as well as your Windows configuration. :tmb:
Which Catalyst are you still using atm?

I don't have products VIVO or ALL in WONDER, I must install it?
Always I have problems with Windows Movie Maker, it is closed suddenly, is for that reason?

Joseph
17-11-06, 22:05
I don't know if I must install the "WDM Integrated Driver""WDM Integrated Driver" is EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT. WDM= Windows Driver Model. Your card handles over some of its most basic and essential functions to the OS, Windows. A stripped version of the driver package is what you get that way.Always I have problems with Windows Movie Maker, it is closed suddenly, is for that reason? Hey you talking about media- rendering now, that's one of the heaviest actions for a PC, don't forget that. Watch out that the files don't get too huge.

I don't have products VIVO or ALL in WONDER, I must install it?
No, i summed up what is in the drivers. If you installed "drivers only" from the ATI support website, then you are having those parts of the software now in your machine already.
