Most new games come with a 5.1 surround sound option in the audio settings but some Like TR Legend do not have this. However with many soundcards the stereo sound can be projected though all surround speakers using a control panel. With my Audigy 4 I can enable this with the EAX panel as shown:

Rather than turn this on or off every time I play a "Stereo only" game I wondered if keeeping this feature on permanently would nullify or alter games that use true surround sound.
I'm sure Joseph would have a good answer to this - thx for any input from anyone.

It wouldn't, but on some old games (such as TR1 run through VDM Sound) it can cause glitchy sound ;)

Thx for that - well TR1 won't run on my system so i guess that's 1 problem removed.

Yes of course, that setting overrules, so it would affect the sound from your true 'surround sound producing' games.

Morning jjohn, EscondeR... :wve:

TR1 can run on (practically) every system as long as its not too extremely antique or otherwise whacky. But you having Audigy4 tells me that's not the case, yours is modern so come on tell us.

Morning Joseph :)
I wanna say it won't make "true surround sound" worse, but can interfere with old games' settings...

Yes, Jjohn, read the FAQ http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1.html & post us some more info about your system

Hi Joseph - yes I have the full game but my problem is this:

Sorry for my lack of explanation about the sound issue - What i actually meant was - will the eax setting produce "double stereo " with true surround or will the true surround sound be played with different sounds coming from each speaker?
System specs:
E6600
2gb ram
7950GT 500mb ram
Audigy4

Oh yeah ok, i forgot about that... that is a disturbing problem. :hea: ...while TR1 runs fine on my P650/GF7800GT system as well on my E6600/X1900XT system.

Maybe you could add a PCI card like Radeon 7000 (enable it in a hardware profile) especially for old games that don't run on the GF7950.

You can read that exactly in the help file (click on the "?" in your EAX console). CMSS simulates 'surround experience' on a headphone or stereo speakerset, and gives 3D effect to sound from a stereo source that is lacking that by nature. When the source is surround, it stays surround only with extra boost i guess, i never tried it i want my sound stay pure!

CMSS2 adds extra surroundeffects that they think people want to hear when watching a DVD movie with dolby surround sound, ala cinema.

Thx for that Joseph - Yes i see what you mean about pure - it is just annoying that some next-gen games only have stereo sound and output no sound to the rear speakers without tweaking your sound card settings. I also have a PS2 and was quite suprised that some games have a surround option on the PS2 but not PC version - Ghost recon Advanced warfighter is one.

A second PCI card might be the go although i guess it means disconecting the monitor and reconnecting to the diffferent pci slot each time.

Yes, or two monitors.

I can't believe that about Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Really?! Such highly sophisticated game! I don't have it yet, but it's on my wanting list. Are you sure you haven't touched the 'no hardware acceleration' slider by accident?
