Is anybody else upset that this is not being made for the Xbox gamers. I think its really upsetting that Crystal Dynamics will introduce Lara to the Xbox market in legend, but not allow for xbox players to experirence the greatness of the original game. I played all the tomb raiders on my playstation in the past, and unfortunately i am now an xbox gamer, i know it doesnt help to whine about it but i just needed to get it out there, i think that its a great dissapointment to deny tomb raider fans who are now xbox gamers the joy of playing the remake.
just my two cents :P
This game is a celebration of the original and it is a gift to the fans who loved the original, and some fans dont play with a Playstation anymore.

Yes, they really are idiots:mad: I loved TRL for the xbox:)

I am thinking that they wanted the Anniversary game to be on the brand systems that the game originated on. It doesn't seem fair after Legend, but who knows, they could always announce other versions later :wve:
It's possible that Legend did not get good enough sales on the Xbox so they decided not to release a version for the Xbox. Also it may be quite a high-cost port (PS2 to PSP is supposed to be particularly cheap which may be why a PSP version is being made, it's easier to get a profit from the PSP).
You never know, they may announce an Xbox version later :).

i suppose they could announce other versions, and we can always hope for that. But its a total bummer, i mean they are putting it on the PSP c'mon. . . haha. That is no way to see the beauty of TR1 :P
The "original" TOMB RAIDER on xbox? Hell, yeah! That's what I really want.
Come on CD!

They should scrap the PSP version and bring it to Xbox :D
It's a last hoorah for the PS2, then they move onto PS3 with TR8 and they'll be back on 360 by then. I guess they didn't want two waste time making to versions of the game just to get next gen grahics for higher end machines. But who knows, maybe the PC version of the TRA game will have higher end graphics???
MonkeyCrypt
28-11-06, 16:05
It is the last hoorah for many of the consoles seeing as how the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 are now out, so i think they should treat all the old consoles with some great going away gift! It is the nice thing to do afterall.
and it seems so ridiculous to run out and buy a PS2 just to play Anniversary on since all the systems will be obsolete soon! My laptop will definately not support TRA!
grrrr!
Even just a port! All I'm asking for is to have Tomb Raider Anniversary for my xbox. But I guess it's just my luck (and millions of others.. You getting this, CD?) ;)

How stupid? Everyones probably traded in their PS2 or either a PS3, Wii, or Xbox 360. I mean why would anyone want a PSP? And c'mon CD get making for Xbox and Gamecube!
It was already mentioned, but it's because the TR series (from TR1 to TR Legend) have allways been on the sony PlayStation and PS2, and PC
sometimes they released another version like TR4 and TR5 for Dreamcast, and Legend for the Xbox and X360. But all the games were on PS and PC

i realize that it was mentioned previously but i am saying that some fans of the series have moved away from PC and PS gaming. and its a shame that they are closing the window to many people, they introduced TR on xbox and that was great, but they decided not to give the AE to xbox, its like teasing the xbox owners, because not all of us want to buy a PS2 just to play AE nor do we all have computers that are compatable. . .
dont give us one TR game on xbox and cut down which consoles the AE is going to appear on, its a dissapointment :(
I would like an xbox version, mainly because I dont have a PS2, PSP my computer isnt strong enough for that game, and im getting a 360 for xmas
Well, I for one, hope they concentrate on the game rather than trying to 'Legend' it. Tomb Raider games have always been on Playstation and PC, Sony and PC.
Since my PS2 is down and out for the count, however, I'll have to buy the PC version although I'm not particularly familiar (or good) with PC controls! Ah well, at least I'll be able to take screenshots and enter the Screenies Competitions for once!
da tomb raider!

Crystal Dynamics = Lazy
Or
Crystal Dynamics = Poor at developing
Either way, that should answer the question.

there are plenty quality games that have been multi format, so i do agree that crystal should focus on gameplay but they build the game on the PC or wherever and port it, they can very well creat a great quality game and make it available on multiple platforms.

Could you provide proof for these claims? And, if at all possible, a little more detailed than just posting "Legend".

There is just no pleaseing ANY FAN is there?
Before Legend came out, people where complaining about it being made for the Xbox and the DS saying things like "Oh, they're just trying to get more money! Greedy jerks!"
I'm glad I'm not the guy who has to read through all this crap to figure out what fans think of the games. Everyone keeps jumping back and froth on what they want and what they like.
Also, lets remember folks a while back, we heard they were only going to put the TRA on the PSP, then only PSP and PS3. Now Ps2 also.
But I honestly think its proper they are keeping it exclusive to the Playstation consoles (this coming from someone who does not own one). I've always felt like when things that have always been exclusive for a consule, its just really weird to see it on another. Its almost like they are trying to get that extra buck, or the game series is dieing and they are trying to get back the fan numbers.
PirateRose: I think the ones disappointed that there is no Xbox version are not the same ones as the ones who think that Eidos is cashing in by releasing on all platforms except Mac. BTW, I never ever heard anything about TRA being on PS3, could you please tell me where that was?
Now for me, Tomb Raider has always been a game that is on PC, later Mac, and some of those strange console-thingys that I would never ever buy. Before I joined this forum, I didn't even know that TR was considered to be PlayStationy, so I do not care much about TR being a PS exclusive game or not.
As for the Xbox (and any other system out there that doesn't get TRA, possibly including Mac): Nobody has any right to have any game released for his/her platform. It's nice if it gets released, but that doesn't give the developer any moral obligation to do so again. I know it's not good if they don't, but it's their choice, and they will do whatever makes most sense for them. There is a risk with buying any system that whatever game you'd like to play won't be supported on it, so there's no use complaining. If you really want the game that badly, buy another system, if you don't, well, don't buy the game at all.

i am glad you think people stating ideas or opinion on certain topics are "crap". And no they arent going to please everybody, but all i am saying is that they have roped in many new fans of the series and many old fans of the series dont play on Playstation or PC, so to open the door for more people to enjoy the series is great, but to do that and then shut the door for the AE is ridiculous, it should be a game that is accesible to anybody and to truly create a larger fanbase people who played Legend on other platforms should see the original Tomb Raider in some form or another.

I'm glad...
Less consoles to develop for means more time to spend making the game perfect.....
Legend was developed for something in the region of 9 platforms...and the game suffered because of it.
Plus the PS2 market is STILL huge...and statements about noone owning them these days are ridiculous....
So I say good move CD...
If the games a success, then maybe they'll release it on other platforms... ?

I'll repeat myself, "There is just no pleaseing ANY FAN is there?

Not sure how its unclear, but I mean that ALL THE FANS IN GENERAL YOU CAN NOT PLEASE. No matter what it is a number fans aren't going to like it. When certain fans get their way, another number are going to throw a fit about it.
I'm not saying "You are the same guys complaining months ago" I'm saying "Months ago, there were people complaining," not these people, OTHER PEOPLE.
Sorry if I come off a bit harsh, I just hate it when I come out unclear to people.

Xbox 1 gaming is dead. There are very few releases to look forward to and releasing a version for Xbox 1 would not return much profit unfortunately.
It is quicker, faster and cheaper to release on PS2, PSP and PC. They're all guaranteed to turn a profit.
They're not releasing it on 360 or PS3 because they're concentrating on TR8 for those platforms.
Maybe there'll be an XBox Anniversary later on, just like Legend was released on several other consoles after its initial release. Porting the PC version shouldn't be too hard.

I agree totally.
To release "Legend" on XBOX and not do the same with "Anniversary" is just wrong...
This forces me to play on PC...and I'm not a PC gamer...having to constantly upgrade my system to play newer games is beyond annoying. (Not to mention-expensive)

No! Xbox gamers still playing games. Many of them are Lara's fans. Legend released on X1 and X360 1/2 year ago, why TRA could not released on it too? Eidos said, that they will be realised games on all platforms!!!
And why they dev PSP version? This system are not so popular as DS.

Well not everyone wants to play on Playstation. Do you really think people would opt for the weaker console when the more powerful Xbox was an option. Thats why I play Xbox :p
CD MUST develop on Xbox 1 and NGC ^^
CD MUST develop on Xbox 1 and NGC ^^
Not if they don't want to they musn't :p I'm more concerned about the game being worth playing, because if the game is good enough, than playing on PS2 really won't bother me.
I believe by having TR:A on Sony Consoles and PC, they're really saying that it's a game for us old fans - as they're the platforms that we played the old games on. They're harkening back to the good ol' days, maybe? We're not the new wave X-Box Gamers - now I'm not saying that X-Box owners can't be TR fans, but what did you guys play the old TRs on?
AoD only came out for PC and PS2 (and Mac, I think)!
The core remake was being done for the same 3 platforms, and since it is a remake of the original l suppose they rightly thought the people most interested in buying it would be those who are still playing the original on their PC's and Sony consoles we have supported the franchise for the last 10 years we get the remake :ton: The new fans can wait for Tomb Raider 8, or wait and see if Eidos change their mind and release the AE game on something else....might be waiting a while though

TR fans are all over now, i bet a lot of the fans who played TR on the playstation do not all have playstation 2's. . . we are spread all over the different consoles lol

Sorry you cannot play Tomb Raider 1 on an XBox, so why would you expect to be able to play the remake on an XBox? Obviously you are not still interested in playing the old games, since you moved on to something you cannot play the games on. l played on the PS1 and when AOD came out was quite happy to upgrade to a PS2, was not to happy with the game but that is another story. Certainly a PS2 is not that expensive now, so those still playing on the PS1 could probably afford one :) And yes l own an XBox and actually brought Legend for the XBox, does not mean l got rid of my PS2 though
I couldn't care less if it makes it to Xbox... TR made it big through the PC and the Sony PlayStation. So naturally a 10th anniversary going back to the first game should only be ported to things that started it all... or branch off of what started it all ( such as PSP and PS2 being associated with Sony PSX ). I mean i feel bad for those who will go without... but this is just how it should be IMO

The only one dissing Sony right now is Sony. If they do not get their act together the only finger of blame that they will be able to point is when they look in the mirror.
Most gamers are smart and not rabid fan-boys. They will go with whoever delievers and that is the way it should be.

my goal was not to be nasty to Xbox gamers, but simply prove a point about the two-faced attitude of a few.
gamers know games are likely to switch too and from platforms, they should have kept their PS2's IMO as a backup....in short nobody to blame but themselves
besides,as somebody else mentioned TRA is the perfect send off for PS2 gaming
and TR8 will herald the ALL platform next gen era :jmp:
Even with the xbox and 360 out there now, sony still owns the most games on a platform, sony IS delivering, peeps are just jumping ship prematurely... ;) "Ohh, 360 looks better", so what, PS3 will look better too. Sony still has the most developers making games for their systems. How about a little faith here? They haven't let me down yet that I need to switch consoles. :ohn:
So far there are only 2, count them, 2 games that are 360 exclusives that I'm even interested in playing, not really enough of a draw for me to justify buying microsoft's product. Not to mention, I hate microsoft, their products are usually over priced, rushed to market, full of bugs. Fan boy indeed! I've seen the official tools MS released to make games for the 360. It seems very easy to port a game from PC to 360 since it's very close to the same thing now. (Well, it was easy when the instructor did it.)
It's very possible that Sony bought the rights for an exclusive release just like they did for Angel of Darkness.
My PS2 is nothing more than a over glorified DVD player now and I never got around to wasting my money on a PSP.
As long as they release it for PC then I'll still get to play it. No big deal. I even have my Xbox 360 controller hooked up to my PC to play games so it will be just like playing it on Xbox with the exception of being in my computer chair watching a monitor as opposed to being on the nice comfy couch and looking at the big screen.
I have the Xbox, and stopped playing it cuz I found out that the PC always has the games that are on other systems. And the PC is much more needed. My theory

Sony have not let me down either....my original broke because i played for hours, daily hehehe..............as for Microsoft,i simply don't like companies that squeeze out competition (i refer to PC OS)
plus, not many people know Microsoft tried buy XBox success by offering to buy companies such as EA,Konami,Capcom....currently trying to by Rockstar Games
Sony and Nintendo earned success,Microsoft tried to buy it...grrrrr oh! Sony only purchased small backwater development studios such as Psychosis (now Studio Liverpool) and recently Guerrila (makers of Shellshock Nam 67)

So far there is 1. count 1, game that is a PS3 exclusive that I am interested in playing. The PS3 is over priced, they made the mistake of building the HD-DVD drive into the console, thus forcing you to by it, even if you do not want it, their hardware record lately has been abysmal (million+ battery recall), etc. Those who have chosen different paths perhaps have intelligent reasons for their choices.

PS3 comes out of the box, internet ready, gaming device,Hard Drive,Blu-Ray/DVD player
overpriced!!! my arse, given stand alone Blu-Ray players are £/$1000 +
"bah humbug"
Isn't 360 still around 400 bucks? I do agree, sony ****ed me off with the seperate HD and internet connection they never delivered on and you had to buy seperate thru aftermarket companies. I do not know if this is the case with the PS3, didn't get one... yet. Don't need to stand in long lines to fight over store only having 10. I can wait till the next gran turismo or tomb raider game comes, which ever is first... ;) I actually liked dreamcast and was thinking of getting one when they got in trouble and bailed. That system was ready for the internet. My brother had the genisis and it wasn't a bad system. I actually felt bad when sega fell out of the console wars. :(

In my opinion that is where Sony made their biggest mistake. Buy a 360 with an Hard drive and you have a great gaming console, Cost $500. If you aren't into HD movies you do not need the HD-DVD player. Sony built the BluRay player into the PS3 Cost $700. It forces you to buy what is in essence a HD movie player. It really does not imrove the gaming at all. The current price of the 360 is the launch price. Microsoft figured with the way Sony blew their launch by cutting way back on the number of consoles shipped and delaying the European lauch until 2007 they did not have to reduce price.
Woah! 700 bucks??? I thought they were supposed to be between 500 and 600 bucks, depending on how loaded they were???

the fact PS3 has a Blu-Ray player is of no concern to me to be honest, yes i'm intrigued by it,but for me my sole purpose of getting a PS3 is for gaming ONLY
on-line capabilities don't interest me that much either....if i wish to play on-line,i'll boot up the PC.......
as for launch, well, good things come to he who waits........the UK delay doesn't bother me to be honest (it never did)...............it is tradition for the UK and Europe to be shafted during console launches so i never expected it to come out at the same time as Japan & US....... :D
** It really does not imrove the gaming at all. **
The Blu-Ray improves the games by introducing fairly hefty future-proofing. DVD based games are not getting any smaller, and the BD discs boast 50GB of storage. Access times are better than a standard DVD player. The current crop of BD games for the PS3 are coming in at about 17GB. The DVD based games for the X360 have to deal with 5GB of storage for all game content. You cannot play HD-DVD games on the X360.
Woah! 700 bucks??? I thought they were supposed to be between 500 and 600 bucks, depending on how loaded they were???
You're correct.......must be hiking up the prices since people can't wait :ton:
Yes it really suck that it is no Xbox version, but we're getting a Anniversary Edition, so we should be happy about that instead of complaining. I own a 360, and I really wanted to play it on that console.

more systems mean that more people can enjoy the game. . . and i dont know why so many people are saying that more consoles will reduce the quality of the game. . i really dont think thats an issue. Legend would have been the same im sure if it was only released for the PC and PS2, i dont think it has anything to do with the amount of consoles they had to make it for.
I'm a playstation gamer.. however I have a Xbox 360 (PS3 too much :()
Anyways, Lara has always been a sony girl, however a port to Xbox/GC wouldn't be so hard. Maybe it's cause PS2 is the most popular system.

Oh give me a break, we're talking about consoles, not computers. So there was a game on the sega saturn and two games on Dreamcast, big woopty doo!
The thing every one of the TR games have in common is PS & PC. If you look at TR7, like I said they whored it out.......way too many systems going.

They should scrap the PSP version and bring it to Xbox :D
Umm...That's ok:tea: I want it!!:cen:

Why does it matter how many systems it's on? What does it matter if more people can be happy playing the game? Better question, why don't you want more people playing the game? Some people have Xbox (or other platform) only. Does cutting them out of the equation make your life easier in some way? Hell, to me more fans means more chance the game will go on. The more the merrier to me! (as long as its done right)
l am sure the Mac people will probably get it sometime in 2008, they always end up with a version, there was a Mac version of AOD as well, no doubt there will be a Mac version of Legend next year sometime. More consoles means less time to develop the game which means a shorter game, it is not up to the fans to decide how a developer should spend their time. They are doing it for 3 platforms and that is that, you can whine and whinge all you like
Like how everybody is picking on me, too bad I have a life so continue complaining......I have my PS2 :ton:

I agree! I have an Xbox and I dont think it's fair to Xbox gamers. Am I expected to buy a new console just so I can play TRAE? I was considering an Xbox 360 but what's the point if I cant play my FAVOURITE game on it? *sigh*
I guess I could upgrade my PC so that it will be able to run TRAE. It's all about money.

I can't believe this debate is still going on...
Its not as if CD/EIDOS just made a rash decision and thought "I know, lets **** off a large amount of the gaming community and only release it on 3 platforms"....
Chances are that CD/EIDOS have a large market research department who spent many an hour researching into the target market... And they logistically decided that x-box was not viable...
Let it die guys... A massive amount of people still own PS2s (infact,I remember reading that Legend PS2 sold the most)....and if you don't have one, they are cheap...
I'd like TRAE for GC :(
me too :( :( :(

I have PC so I don't really care!
after spending so much money on a high def tv with the 360 it is just painfull going back to the PS2 knowing how much better it COULD look. My pc can handle legend full spec though so i'm sure it will play anniversary, i'd just prefer to play it on a console :(
I have an XBox and will hopefully be getting an XBox 360 as christmas BUT I can totally understand why they aren't releasing TRA on it - Lara started life on the Playstation and PC so it's quite fitting that that's where the Anniversary goes. I understand why some people are angry though - I guess I am ok with it because I have quite a new PC and should hopefully be able to play TRA on it - I hope that the 360 style PC compatible controller works for TRA cos that'd be a great controller if I'm getting a 360 lol. :p
ok, Xbox fans.......a question for you...........
you demand TRA comes to your god-like console,so i ask you this
Q: do you think it's totally fair and cool for PS2 gamers to be given a graphically INFERIOR version, just so you can gloat how awesome it looks on Xbox???

Generally all the same how it looks on PS2, the main thing, that people can play game on their Xbox/Xbox360/GameCube, u know

I just want the choice, just like you'd want the choice if it was only released on 360 and pc.
If they make a version that runs on a PC with a Microsoft OS then it was my understanding that it would not be hard to port it to any other Microsoft system.
@agent I do not think anyone is asking about a port just so that they can gloat. I think legend did a good job of pushing the PS2 to its limits and I expect TRA to do the same.
@ vman $500 and $700 because I generally factor in the cost of at least one game and maybe an additional controller when I try to figure out if I can afford something. I guess the big thing is the $200 differential.
@ding The future factor in the blu-ray decision is very risky for Sony. Right now it is up in the air as to whether HD-DVD or blu-ray is going to be the future direction. Microsoft chose to have the HD-DVD as an optional component. Sony built the blu-ray into the system. If HD-DVD wins the PS3 is SOL. If blu-ray wins the 360 is still viable and Microsoft switches to a blu-ray add on. My preference is for systems that consist of components that offer flexibility rather than a take-it-or-leave-it total package. But that is just my preference.
Well give it up xbox fans, no AE for you, sorry! :ton: Wish all you want, eidos has spoken and the 3 platforms they listed is all they are gonna do... for now... ;)

It does suck considering all I have is an Xbox. I'll just have to play it at friends houses like AOD.

That's what I thought too. I plan to get it on PC, so it doesn't really affect me, but I still don't understand why they wouldn't port it to Xbox1 also.
My 2 cents:
"Who cares?"
Get over it, people dont whine about people not speaking english in a foerign country, why should you wine that this isnt a game made for every platform under the sun? They made it for PC and PS2 it should be enough. You all obviously have PC's.

It won't be enough for all those who will miss out because they don't have a PS2 or their PC is ****. Their no point in leaving out anyone from playing this game esp after Legend was released on this platform.
so you'd prefer it that PS2 gamers get a totally inferior naff version, whereas Xbox and PC owners get something graphically superior with bonus features too?
ok, that's fair......NOT!!!!

Xbox and PS2 Graphics aren't very far off one another. Niether was the non-next-gen version of Legend.

Well if you do not have a PS2 or compatible PC you were not interested enough to be still playing the first 6 games, so l suppose they figure why make the remake for people who are not interested in playing the old games. It is for the fans who like playing the old games they are doing it for afterall, not the newbies who jumped on the bandwagon when Legend was released. If they can play it and like it well enough, but this will not be Tomb Raider for everyone like Legend was, you will actually have to be able to think to complete this game :ton:

But you'd be getting the same version on PS2 whether or not a 360 version is released. You're just saying you'd prefer that some people don't get the choice to play it at all rather than you be jelous that there is a better looking version out there.
That's not very nice
Xbox 1 gaming is dead. There are very few releases to look forward to and releasing a version for Xbox 1 would not return much profit unfortunately.
It is quicker, faster and cheaper to release on PS2, PSP and PC. They're all guaranteed to turn a profit.
They're not releasing it on 360 or PS3 because they're concentrating on TR8 for those platforms.
Exactly what I think, took the words out of my mouth. :)

Not really fair, since I've being playing the first 6 games on my PS and PC since the series started in 1996. I'm not mean spirited and unfair, so I believe anyone should be able to experience this game regardless of what platform.
For anyone complaining that they will get an inferior version if its released on Xbox, well thats just stupid, your version will still be have inferior graphics regardless. Its an old console, what do you expect?
The entire point of making the game is to make a profit, so it is up to the people making and paying for the games to be made to decide what platforms it is released on. They are not going to be wasting valuable time releasing it on a platform they already decided was not worthwhile. More platforms means either a shorter game or more development time, since they are on a tight schedule. That is why people are saying they would get an inferior game, just like we had so much stuff cut out of Legend when it was decided to release it on so many platforms, they did not even have time to finish the Manor level! Less platforms means a longer game in this case, and as l said before, this is not a game for beginers, if they were not interested playing the old games it is highly unlikely they will like this game, so obviously Eidos has decided to stick with the old fanbase for this one. ie: PC and PS2 players
WEll said I guess. But really, I'm suprised from all the reactions I've read so far..though I understand their pain, I still think it's "fair enough" they're actually making this game.
And for people who do care about graphics (not saying any of you guys mentioned it here so don't flame at me:eek:) finally realized gameplay is the main element here...but I know I ejoyed Legend on PS2 - even though it wasn't graphically the best compared to Xbox. I didn't think that it wasn't fair that PS2 didn't build a better graphic engine for itself than Xbox - I was just happy it was released on PS2. I'd rather have better games over graphics (of course, if the graphics is SO SO BAD, that's a different story).

I believe Progressive Scan solves the problem I think...
Oh please, this thread is so immature and greedy. Bear with it, CD probably dont have money to throw around like they did with legend, especially now that they are working on two games at once.
You'll just have to deal with it.

I dont understand why people are being so nasty on this thread, i started it just to state my opinion, which is what i believe you are supposed to do on a forum, and everyone jumps on it and says that people who are upset about not getting an xbox version are being greedy and immature.. c'mon, its immature that everyone is being so nasty about other peoples opinions. We are in a community here and should be encouraging openess and opinions for discussion, not to be shot down for what we feel.
Nothing wrong with expressing an opinion, but we just do not want you to get your hopes up ;) l am mainly an XBox player myself, but l brought and kept my PS2 when AOD came out, specifically because l was expecting more Tomb Raider games, true when Legend came out for XBox l brought the XBox version because l think it has better graphics, and l am seriously hoping they will still release Tomb Raider 8 for XBox, but we knew the AE game would be PC, PS2 and PSP for like the last 6 months, so there is no point wishing otherwise

im not getting my hopes up at all, just stating that it wasnt a kind move, i had a ps2 also at one point for the sole purpose of playing AOD, but when that crapped out i got an Xbox once i learned that TRL was going to be available on that platform also. Ah well guess i'll have to wait and see if anything changes if not, i should think about investing in a PS2 they should be relatively cheap soon :P
i just thought it would have been nice of them to allow everyone to enjoy it. . and many people will im sure, but they cut down their audience a bit.
Well, you don't have to buy Ps2 just 'cause of Tomb Raider of course:D There's other great games, too.;)
