View Full Version : Lara's mansion retextured!
Yesterday a guy called Antonijadis issued new textures for Glidos' users. Yes, they are for Lara's mansion! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif I like them very much.
You can download them temporarily from Vogons forums HERE. (http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?p=61254#61254)
Download all three files, unzip them somewhere and copy all folders with long names (numbers/letters) into your Glidos/Textures folder. If you didn't use high resolution textures before - remember to add this line:
TextureOverride: Yes
to Tomb Raider section of glidos.ini file (it is situated in Glidos folder).
Enjoy! And please write your comments here or at Vogons forums (you don't need to register to post there).
Could somebody post a screenshot from this retextured level here?

OK, here is a sample picture (I've just registered at Photobucket). http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/Zebius/Mansion002.jpg

Wow, very nice work! Although if it had better lighting it would be even better! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif
And another one. I captured them at 1024x768 and resized to 800x600 to save web space. Maybe I made them to dark? In the game it looks much brighter, depends on gamma correction setting.

Very awesome, altho I think her hair looks a bir gray-ish.... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
AMAZING! Very great job! I have also seen some pictures taken from restored Caves-level. They were simply fabulous.
What a pity that TR1 doesn't work in my XP, I'd be so pleased to raid with those wonderful graphics. ._.

I don't suppose I could be a bother and ask for some more pictures of the mansion's new look? The main hall would look awesome!
Thank you http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Some things I dont like. Like in the pool room, the blue marble I think totally cheapens the effect of the room..it should be dark red. Also, why gray out Lara's hair? :|
The library room looks fabulous though.

Yes, the library is fabulas darling! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif
Good work! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif
Lara's hair indeed looks a bit 'grayed out' (without meaning to, i guess).
But that aside: this is a marvellous example of retexturing! Do more please, enjoy, and show / let us show! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif
I liked the piano brand name: "Croft". :D

Lara's hair is just very shiny so it may look greyish.
I like the way Antonijadis remade outdoors, because in original game they were extremely ugly. Below is an example.

Sorry, no, in fact I never planned supporting any kind of high res textures (altough indeed it would be fantastic). Changing textures was Paul's idea for Glidos, not mine.
WOW! Looks much better than original texturing. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif
Oh wow (Hi by the way, I'm noobman, new member) that's some really nice work.
It looks like you used bump-mapping on some of those textures, I didn't even know that GLIDE supported that!

these are cool, but is there anyway i can see what these areas looked like before you changed things? I don't have this game so I dont know what you did differently http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif thanks
Zebius, what version of Glidos did you use?
I used 1.32 and had some textures missed.
For example, chair at start point, statue and some plants in pool room have original texures.
@PaulD
1.31 and everything is OK - all objects like chairs, plants are re-textured. Maybe you did something wrong while unzipping? There are three files to be unzipped. Folders with long names (01E61BCD39E5DDC9F388E9E80E635BB3 and so on) should be exactly in Glidos/Textures folder. Check it and unzip them one more time if necessary.
then I will try Glidos v1.31.
Can you try v1.32?
In 1.32 everything is OK too, so just try unzip those textures one more time or even re-download them.
I've just tested on two different systems Glidos v1.32 with GF2MX and GF4200
I recaptured(TextureOverride: Capture) "Lara's home" and did not found folders
8300657313CCCC448CE15676F4D01954
BE6CD750CE286114EABFA0EBB4F4F94F
instead of them I have
C0885A6D4FD379F4C76CB81C2B60C6BF
9FD53B2B96930C25A4763C44CAC91B43
Cannot test v1.31, do not have distributive. :(

the same with 1.31 :(
something wrong with my system.
bad, bad, bad
I have most recent TR1 vesion.(phd files dated Nov-05-1996)
and texures pack usualy are done for old TR1 version, files dated Oct-25-1996.
All you need to do is identify the folders that are different (which you've already done) and then copy the relevant textures from the Lara's Home texture pack into the correct folders on your system.
Not only folders are different, content of those folders as well.
example for "Lara's home" Lara's hairs:
your textures names:
(128--144)(208--232).png
(144--160)(208--232).png
(160--176)(208--232).png
(176--192)(208--232).png
(192--208)(208--232).png
(208--224)(208--232).png
my texures names:
(48--64)(208--232).png
(64--80)(208--232).png
(80--96)(208--232).png
(96--112)(208--232).png
(112--128)(208--232).png
(192--208)(208--232).png
It was easy to remap hairs, and quite hard visually define correct mapping for others texures.
The result is ........ wonderous http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yikes.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yikes.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yikes.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yikes.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yikes.gif

It's amazing what a little Instanet (or whatever cleaning product you use) can do for one's house, right? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/vlol.gif
Look at the difference ... I guess Lara doesn't do much cleaning and her butler is too old or too lazy to do the job.
Bye for now
P.S.: I wouldn't mind cleaning the house myself ... in return for a little Lara-love; that is. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-2.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/hug.gif

I love it. Fantastic work!
I'm sorry for resurrecting such an old thread, but after looking through so many previous posts I just felt like it'd be the right thing to bring this up again, especially after seeing what they did to some of the first levels.
In case it was wrong, please feel free to kick me ;)
Those new textures are simply gorgeous, and I'm dying to see some of the Enemies retextured...but to give you people something more to look at, here are some more "Up-to-date" pictures:

Ok I recently downloaded whole bunch of those textures, put them into the texture folder and edited the command Textue Override: Yes.....and I was still unable to experience the graphics. I don't know why this is happening. I am running the game through Glide, could that be the reason it doesnt work? I tried Voodoo but I am having problems.
Damn those are good! it's really look like a re-make :D

You need the newest version of Glidos 1.33 to get new texture packs working.
http://glidos.net/download.html?lang=en
In Glidos options you need to select which pack do you want to use.
This is the first time I've seen this thread, so I must thank you and say WOW!!
oh ive used it before *outstanded*
Its really good, I may try it
Beautiful!
Shame it's only for Glidos though:(
Wow, this is a marked advancement from the original - it's like a remake in itself. It almost makes up for Core not being able to release an official PS2 remake. If CD fail to release anything worthwhile I'll definately be buying a PC version of TR1 just to play this with all those beautiful textures. Thanks! :tmb:
Certainly very good work. :tmb: But it only affects the room surfaces. Nothing has changed to the water, the wolves, Lara. Some say it looks like a complete new game, and it does of course: it is not original TR made by Core Design anymore.
That is what DgVoodoo does: makes TR1 look as it was intended on the orginal game. TR1 FAQ. (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1.html)

Now this would be the perfect Anniversary Edition for me! :tmb:
Thanks for the link Joseph, it should be really helpful :)
But don't get me wrong Reggie: DgVoodoo does the same as Glidos. To me, that is enough graphics enhancement to TR1, that's all i'm saying. They both make TR1 look as good as possible on the original game's data.
Btw: the texture-remake is an addition that only works in Glidos.
:)
Well, I've just taken a look around some sites and sources to have a quick read about TR1 on the PC and the improvements that can be made and it looks like I'm going to have to read up on things a little more.
Certainly very good work. :tmb: But it only affects the room surfaces. Nothing has changed to the water, the wolves, Lara.
Not true. Although some packs don't include replacements for creature textures or Lara, some of them definitely do. I can't wait to show you all my T-REX! :) And water is just a surface like everything else and can easily be retextured.
Btw: the texture-remake is an addition that only works in Glidos. :)
Yeah, too bad it doesn't work with dgVoodoo. But when and if all the textures for TR1 will be finished investing in Glidos will be well worth it.
I played TR1 with texture packs (whatever was ready a few months ago) and Gambit37 did an amazing job.
I got to visit his site again and see what else is new there. And of course get the mansion textures :)
Gambit - are you or anyone else planning on retexturing Unfinished Business?
Is there a FAQ or something which could help me install these. I dont have a clue what to do.
You need to have a working copy of Tomb Raider / Glidos 1.33 installed. Then most of the packs should simply just install fairly painlessly. If you have trouble, head on over to the Glidos forum for help:
http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewforum.php?f=20
There will be a new TRX website coming soon which will be much better -- with all the packs available and help etc...
The water looks amazing! I love The Lost Valley shots aswell!
I just played with the new textures... and I couldn't believe couldn't handle TR1! At the highest resolution it ran at 5 FPS! TR1 now it's slow on my PC! Anyway, install it, it's worth it...
I don't think your PC is too slow. But you have to consider the fact that TR1 has a very old engine, and it's very likely to run rather slow with so much modding.
It's just not meant to run with such high-res textures.
Gambit - are you or anyone else planning on retexturing Unfinished Business?
Eventually, yes -- it would be pretty easy to do once the main game textures are done as most of them are the same.

When are you going to update your site Gambit 37?
Please see this thread:
http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=10114
I am thinking about changing the current site so that it's more general and a place where all the packs can be downloaded. The site would continue to bear the TRX name, but it would be presented differently so that all the texture pack developers get a page to themselves with their own downloads.
I think that's a great idea, Gambit. All packs in one place. People will be able to choose the style they want (since every artist has his own style) for their TR1 copy.
I just hope the server you're on will be able to take the traffic load :)

wow, i need to do this.
That looks very cool indeed, but I will probably never experience that.
I have tried like a thousand times. I have not been able to play TR with Glidos, dgVoodoo, VDMsound, updated .exes, Joy to Key or anything else. The game ALWAYS freezes or something just doesn't work. It's so frustrating and hopeless that I gave up a long time ago. If someone is making a really really really damn good step-by-step help page, then I might consider trying these add-ons again.
The tech forums will help you:)
DGvoodoo is great once you get it going:D
Got a good comparison to show but why cant i upload images on this site?
Use http://imageshack.us/ for uploading pictures here.
Can those gorgious textures also be used for the level editor?
You could use them, but you'd either need to use one texture spread over eight tiles square, or resample them down to a smaller size which rather defeats the purpose of the project!
Please note that if you want to use anything from these packs in your own projects, only myself and John Capon have allowed free usage. Please remember to credit us for anything you use. Thanks. :)
