Ok, this is getting eerie.

I wasn't really thrilled with the new model, so I kinda played around with it. I just don't get how, even if the character is cartoony, why they just can't make it a beautiful cartoon. I mean she's LARA CROFT, for god's sake. It's great that they tried to make her bust more realistic by downsizing it and all, but they need to pay more attention to the rest of her too. Her head's always 6 times too large (like in the one above) or way too small. And her body is always too narrow. Hah I don't even want to get into the structure of her face.

I think the last picture is more looking like lara. and i dont think it is a coincidence.

I dont know why but this one reminds me more of AoD Lara which looks more "classic Lara", so I guess there is a little difference between th two pictures

I agree with Riv, I think it's just the lighting that's changed the face, mostly.

I like the right one more than the actual model, the face just has more life to it (and the smile gives it a certain edge, just makes her more "Lara"), whereas the actual model looks like a soulless doll.

I agree with Rivendell - the face itself looks the same but with different hair and lighting. I love the first one they released - she looks stunning and, appropriately, more youthful. I like the new scan one too though - cos its pretty much the same to me lol. :)

Yeah - good idea! I think it's just that the way the "bangs" (?) now curve make her face look rounder - but you can see the slope of the nose and details are the same.
oooooh! i just realised what this could mean! in the magazine with that older lara model, it said the game was at 30%
making this new version must have taken quite a while, making the info in that other magazine dated, meaning that 30% completion is out of the question! w000t :D
That render is still one of the most beautiful Lara renders ever I think!

I LOVE THE CATHERINE ZETA JONES LARA. It's very attractive and reminds me of Lara so much!
I also like the updated HQ render, that is also more 'crofty' to me.

I checked it about 3 times! Zipping back and forth from render 1 to render 2, both on top of eachother - the face is the same, and the shadow makes the right hand side seem different!
They really changed her face a lil bit. And i think that's good, even if the changes are very small she looks better now, not like a ready-to-action porn star like in the left version.

the major difference between the two pictures is the chin (bigger on the left), the hair, the nose (I think is a big longer in the left), and the head shape (notice the top head, with hair, is rounder in the right image).
The picture on the left reminds me more of tr1 lara (more angular), and the one on the right reminds me more of legend (rounder face). I like them both ;)

This magazine article would have been layed out long before any fan saw and altered any official pics, so l would not get confused there thinking anything was "changed so fast" nothing was changed, both pictures existed before we saw anything. The one we saw originally is an ultra highly realistic render done for a purpose we do not know yet, advertising or box art comes to mind. The new one from the polish magazine looks more like something we might get in game as an FMV perhaps :confused: it is a lower poly version of the original pic, either that of they were playing around with next gen graphics for some reason. l think if people are going to start doctoring the official pics they should mark them as fan art because it seems some people are starting to get confused, about what is real and what is not. The picture on the right a few posts before mine is a fan made creation, and nothing to do with the official picture

Okay people, we only have ONE screen of Lara "in-game". And actually ALL the Lara models have some angles they look ugly in (mostly when the camera is under her face)
And let me remind you, the game is not finished:o

Wow. When I posted those pictures, I didn't realize everyone would get so... entheusiastic. I just had to say that I wasn't really trying to make the figure look more like anyone in particular. I was just trying to keep her features the same while not necessarily making her "realistic", but just giving her basic human proportions.
That's the problem with "updating" Lara Croft. I don't think she's ever really had a face... it's an "icon" of a face. It's so abstracted from reality that people have to bring in their own ideas of what she should look like in order to complete a picture of a real human being in their heads. I think that makes it impossible to make a completely naturalized image of Lara Croft that EVERYONE can agree on. Which is probably why they've officially never made one. And probably never will.
Of course, until Anniversary. Seeing as to how this is a complete re-imagining of the original game, CD and Eidos could take a risk and go for it since they have a clean slate and present us with a really individualized character. I mean as artists, I'd think that they'd be up for the challenge. In terms of the aesthetics on that first render... If I were the art director, I'd probably tell the artist he needed to do a lot more work. I just think they can do a lot better.

You wish she looked like that. The pic is just one of the renders shown in the magazines, in similiar style to the ones that were done for the iDVD game, although they were based on Legend Lara, and these ones have a few slight differences. Certainly the hair seems to be improving

Now that looks even more like Lara, I especially like the pondering look/slightly raised eyebrow combination, makes it look like she´s just encountered a trap and thinks "hmmm, now how do I get around this one".
I dont want major changes in every game i mean Lara was practically the same (with some minor changes) from tomb raider to tomb raider chronicles then when the saga was moved to that moment next gen it went on a major change and it was nice to see a more mature lara then Crystal made its own model for legend and again it was awesome to see a beutiful lara but now they re changing her again so its starting to get old (even though it looks great) i wish they would wait till PS3/X360/Wii to change the model again..but oh well

The more I look at the third one, the more the origional one looks like a potato head. She looks so beautiful in that third picture. It actually reminds me of the comic book lara which i think was a great natural portrayal of her image.

i think that one i s the best so far! But the brows must be bigger. Original Lara's brows arent ike that. These ones r too thin. And a bit less make-up wpuld make the model perfect :)

I went over some people's comments and then worked back into my image. Looking at it close up, the nose was a bit long (I like bigger noses... so what ;) ). And the chin was cut off a bit short. Among some other things. Anyway, here it is, with the original (and the last one, I swear):

With that impressive photo-shopping of the original Anniversary Lara's expressions, I must say; I think I'll just stick with what CD has for us so far. That is, if there won't be any more changes, which I hope there would be.

I like your lara b2L. Her arched eyebrows make her look more refreshed, alert, and her refined jaw line makes her appear much less bloated that the original.

She looks the best we've seen her in my opinion. -- Minus the wierd jumper thing.
good news for people who don't like the original model, she has been changed! fuller eyebrows, a bit darker lips... she looks more like Legend lara than before i think.
i lioved the model we saw before but i must say she looks even better now ^^

They may be watching this forum - actually, I'm sure they are. I remember some members posting about features they wanted that actually ended up being in the game. It was pretty funny.
But I think that has more to do with this game still being in the development stages. I don't think one particular person influenced them to change that.
The picture above would most likely be the oldest version actually, it was for the Christmas edition and undoubtedly they had been sitting on the artlicle for a while, also they mention the project is 30% complete which makes me think it might be a bit old
