I'm seriously board so I started to wonder, how did I first come across Tomb Raider?

I first came across it becuase of my Dad. He bought TR1 when I got my Playstaion.

What about you guys, why did you first pickup Tomb Raider? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

The demo came with some magazine some years ago.
I re-played it like a dozen times and finally, my mom bought me the whole version http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I didn't start to play the demos until TR3 came out. I must say though, the Area 51 level in it was boaring. Plus her sprint was very aquard. My favorite game on the demo disk was Med-Evil.

For me it all started with the TR1 demo.

I had played a few first person shooter games (oh yeah! :D ) like Blake Stone and Duke Nukem 3D, and one day as I was browsing a site with game demos, I spotted the TR1 demo. I thought, let's see what all this fuss is about!

That was it: I was hooked instanstly! Later I looked for the rest of the demos and then went on the hunt for the games in the market. I have played them zillions of times since then! :D

Ah, I was just lucky and I didn't even know what the internet was at that time due to me being like 4.

Got it together with my Saturn when I was 13 or 14, back in 97 (yeah, pretty late). Really wanted it after reading magazine reviews.
Twas a lovely Xmas playing Tomb Raider, NiGHTS and Panzer Dragoon Zwei. *g*

Its never too late to start playing Tomb Raider. I'm just happy that I've been playing since the day it hit shelves.

I dont remember where I heard about it, but I remember sitting in the computer lab at school not long after it came out and looking up online anywhere I could a demo for it..and trying to play it and dying..

But I never was able to buy it and really get into to it until I bought my first ps1 in 2001, used from a person I worked with. I bought it (the game) used, in fact I got all of them used.. and Even though I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, I was hooked and I had managed to get the other four games in under two years.. I get everything late, it seems. Better late than never, is what I say.

My brother was the one who discovered Miss Croft, actually. At that time, I think I was around 11 years old  can't remember exactly... but I do know that I was constantly looking at the game when my brother was playing it; it was such an exciting game! But my brother wouldn't let me play it, yet  .

But one year later, I finally had the opportunity to play TR1 (my brother was no longer interested in Lara  can you believe that?) and from then on I got hooked to Lara :D . I almost immediately bought TR2 when it hit the shelves, and then TR3 and so on, 'till I had them all lol.

It was actually TR2 that influenced me. Because the first TR game I had was TR2 for PS and I loved it. Couldn't stop playing it. So I went to the shops again when I could finally leave my beloved TR2 without me for a few hours, lol, and I saw TR1 for PC so I brought it. I think I was 8 or 9 then.

I played 5 minutes of TR2 around at my cousin's house in 1999, but it wasn't this small session that got me hooked.

I bought a Playstation in early 2000, and obviously needing games to go with it, I ended up buying two purely on reputation value alone, which were Final Fantasy 7 and Tomb Raider 2.

By the end of my first day's play in the Great Wall I was well and truly hooked.

I always liked the look of it in magazines. It looked really interesting. I then recieved a non-playable rolling demo which showed the City of Valcambia in action. I thought it looked great. I then played it for about 20 secs in HMV (there was a queue). I fell in love with it right away.

I recieved TR1 for Xmas for my Sega Saturn. The rest is history...

My mum did. it was 1998 when TR3 was about to come out. At first I didn't want it. I was too much into abe's oddysee. Then she said that she thought it was good so I baught 1 and 2 together. I fell in love with them as soon as it started. one week later I went to the store and got TR3.

It was early 1997, and my then boyfriend (now husband) and I had just moved into our new flat... we decided to buy a PS to celebrate. I knew nothing about PS games at that point, and so I asked the shop assistant what would be good to play. We ended up with a Star Wars game (it was ****), Tekken (cool!), Kings Field (ahhh... a little known game, but we loved it - I couldn't control it properly, but hubby could, so I used to watch him play it) and Tomb Raider.

I had never, ever seen anything like it before in my life. I actually bunked Uni to play it. Hubby hid a free guide so I couldn't cheat. I had NIGHTMARES (considering I was nearly 20 at the time, that's a bit sad!) because I had to stop playing one night (it was late) and I hadn't found out what the leaping, shrieking white thing I had shot previously was (this was in the first Egypt level, just after the first Mummy appears), and I didn't want to go near the statue of the Cat just incase it turned into something nasty (I'm such a coward!). After that, I was hooked... although none of the subsequent games have quite gripped my imagination like the first one did (TR3 was probably the closest).

I was just devestated that they didn't release the extra levels for the PS... even though I have all of them for the PC, I find controlling Lara with a keyboard far too much like hard work!

My first TR was TR 1, it was in 1998. My boyfriend gave me this game and I started to play. I liked it so much. When I finished TR1 I started to play in TR2. And then I upgraded my computer cause next TR 3 won't run. ;)

My brother and I first picked it up because of the hot chick with the big hooters on the cover and the Nude Raider code that never was. We only rented. Later on i picked it up because of the hot chick with the big hooters on the front cover (this was before I found out I was gay, ironically enough) and then discovered, hey, making Lara die is FUN.

And then recently, nostalgia hit and so did an urge to play the levels right this time.

I first saw TR when my step-kids played TR2. I didn't think much of it at the time, because I had the idea back then that any viewpoint other than 1st-person would ruin immersion, the sense of "being there".

Well, Silent Hill 2 cured me of that, and I went back to the game catalogs to see what I was missing. That way I discovered TR, Max Payne, Resident Evil and others. I tried the UB levels on the PC and I was convinced.

Only recently though (like last week) did I finish TR1, due to various interruptions, other games, life, etc.

My first was demo of tr2 when i was six back in 1998. I got hooked on it for days. I would not come to dinner, go to school stuff like that. 7 years later, me now 13 have all the games, and I cannot wait for Legends.

I'm one of the first Tomb Raider fans ever; I suppose. I discovered "Tomb Raider" back in 1996 when I was boasting about older videogames such as "Lemmings", "Wolfenstein", "Doom" and "Prince of Persia". A friend of mine said those games meant nothing anymore these days as he had recently bought the best game ever ... which of course turned out to be "Tomb Raider".

The first time in my life that I saw Lara Croft's immensely beautiful face ... that I heard that hair-raising music ... that I saw the first fantastic FMV's ... and that I played this super-perfect game, I fell in love never to forget about Lara Croft again.

The next couple of years I only bought Tomb Raider games ... until "Need for Speed 2: Hot pursuit", "Max Payne" and "Splinter Cell" came out.

Bye for now

My very good friend was a huge fan of Tomb Raiders. So naturally, I got introduced to the games too. And I liked. So I got TR III as a christmas present in 1998. It was too scary and dark for me, so I cheated. Then I bought TR and TR II too, and liked them more. :> Anyway, I discovered that TR series was my thing.

A friend of mine told me about this new, really great game he just bought. As he often told me about great games that i thought was boring i didnt buy the game right away. But when i got it it blew my mind away from the first spin. Since then ive bought and played every TR game, and only one time ive been dissapointed (AOD)....

I was looking through a catalogue for some games back in '97/98 and saw tomb raider 1, I was only young then, so I asked my mum if she would order it and found out i was too young to play it, so I gave it to my brother for christmas. When he started playing it I used to watch and I got hooked, and I decided i'd like to try. When we got to level 3, we had the the playstation chipped and it broke! Only recently have i started back playing on pc, and I still love it!

What influenced me?
Several years ago,
I saw Tomb Raider packaged in the Playstation “Greatest Hits” box.
I picked it up and read the description on the back and thought, ‘wow, this looks really cool and fun’.

And sure enough, it turned out to be one of my favorite games.

Never played the demo, never really heard of TR before, I just read the box and became interested. I guess it just goes to show how important package design and product descriptions can be.

TR was actually the first game I bought for my Playstation.

My first Lara encounter was the movies. Me and my mom were at the video store where I saw Angelina on the cover. I picked it up (cause I have loved every movie I have seen her in) and rented it. After that I was hooked. We bought the DVD's of both movies and for x-mas my mom bought me a PS2 and TR2. At first the graphics from the great wall hurt my eyes but I eventually finished it and ran out to buy the rest of the games. And now I am here. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

i had always been obsessed with ancient egypt. my friends then told me when i was 13 that i should play tr4 (which had just been released - 1999). i loved all the egypt in there, but after playing that game the ending completely hooked me to lara herself. as i waited for the months to go by and for chronicles to come out (so i could finally know how lara survived) i spent my time playing the other games and really loved every one of theme.

but i will never forget my first few minutes of sixteen year old lara in that beautiful angkor wat training level

I'll probably be burned at the stake for this but it was Drakan that first got me into 3rd person action adventure games in 2000. I missed the whole 90s PC scene. And since Drakan was heavily influenced by Tomb Raider I thouhgt I just had to check out Tomb Raider! I think I like Drakan and Tomb Raider equally. Tomb Raider has tougher puzzles, and a great and novel concept (posh lady adveturer becomes Indiana Jones/ James Bond) but Drakan has better graphics and a more skill relaint combat system. Althought I love the music of both games I ahve to say that I think Drakan has the best sounddtack of any game I've played so far, with the possible exception of Baldur's Gate.

First off all, let me just say hi to all the members once again. Although I have joined here a while go, I haven't been as regular as I would have liked. Life can be very busy. Neverthless, this is a great place, and I'll make it a point to find more time to spend here.

I think I have told about how I came to know about Tomb Raider before, I certainly don't mind repeating. Since this is thread that is particular to Tomb Raider 1, I shall keep the game in context.

I saw a friend of mine playing Tomb Raider in the year 1999. It was Tomb Raider 1. At that time wasn't really interested in the game, for that matter, I wasn't interested in computer games as such. So I never gave it a second thought.

My parents bought a computer in year 2000, and until then I knew next to nothing about computers. I have played a few computer games before, games such as Dangerous Dave, Digger etc. So, since I had my computer, I wanted to play a few games on it as well. My computer provider gave me a demo version of Tomb Raider 3. I found that game extremely hard to play. Because the only computer games I have played before were Dave and other 2D games. And frankly, I at that time, I never liked playing games on the computer. I always liked to play games on my TV console unit. It wasn't a PS, it was just a console which had cartirdges that included games like Mario, Contra and Street Fighter etc.

Anyway, the transition from 2D to 3D wasn't easy at all. And intitially playing Tomb Raider wasn't easy at all. However, I managed to complete the demo (it was the first demo game I ever finished). And since then, I made it a point to buy all the Tomb Raider games, irrespective of how bad the reviews might, and how bad the game might be.

But Tomb Raider wasn't the first Tomb Raider I got. It was Tomb Raider 4. And the first Tomb Raider I finished was Tomb Raider 3.

I was already well into Tomb Raider before I even saw the glorious original. I was playing TR3 over the holidays and I had just had a rather nasty and fatal run-in with a T Rex in the South Pacific. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yikes.gif
Then my Mum and brother returned home from shopping and had bought me TR1. I was so happy http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/jumper.gif

I actually started off with TR II, when I first got my Playstation in 1997.. I was 6 or 7. Ever since then I've been hooked!!

I first got hooked on Tomb Raider back in Dec. of '96. I had just gotten a PS1 the month before as well as my first car.

It was Christmas eve and several friends and I were browsing the PS1 games at out local Best Buy and saw the front cover for Tomb Raider 1. Being the horny teenager I was, I immediately picked it up to inspect Lara's generous breasts. I eventually turned the game over and was intrigued with the screen shots. I had always wanted an Indiana Jones/exploration game and this looked perfect. It was the last copy, so I parted with what little precious money I had then to pick it up.

I did not get around to playing for a few days, but once I did, I was hooked from the very beginning. Two of my friends and myself spent over a week playing the game almost all day. We were determined to beat it without help and also to find every secret. We played levels over and over until we were satisfied enough to move on.

We were soo addicted to the game that when a huge ice storm blew through us in Texas, we lost power for several days. We were able to borrow a small generator from another friend that had just enough juice for some lights, heaters...and the TV and PS1. We were in heaven.

I have never enjoyed the other TR games as much as the first. I have not played on since TR4 as a freshmen in college and Legend looks right up my alley. The game seems to have gotten back to what I always loved about the first one.

My sister bought a playstation for her Husband (back before ps2 was out) and it came with a copy of TRLR. He(my brother in law)isn't much of a RPG gamer (He's more into the sports games)so he would always let me play it. I LOVED it! Especially when she got to swim through the water! It was just such an intriguing game I had to have it!

So yes, I was a sort of late-comer to the fascination of Lara, but I was fascinated all the same http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

When I heard they were making a movie about the game, I was SO excited! hahah I remember it clearly lol

TR II will always have a place in my heart for me, as it was the first ever TR game I played. I loved the way you could just run around shooting things, and jumping around climbing in these amazing levels.

Lets see... My mom & step dad just bought me and my sister a PS back in 1996. Not very interested in the one game we got at the time. Final fantasy 7. I love that game now but back then a blocky guy with a big sword was alittle random. one day my mom brings this new game home. She said it was suppose to be a great game. My step dad put it in. AMAZING! i had never seen 3d worlds such as the ones in the game. The suspence of watching my aunt take the controller and scream as wolfs jump out from every direction in level 2. I Talked about that game so much i wasn't aloud to say Lara croft in class anymore. i use to think it was called Terminater XD i was only 6. Every time i see one of my old elementary teachers they say " Mr. Tomb raider its nice to see you again " XD

My dad and a family friend were playing it when I walked in. (Very young age).

They tryed to stop me seeing it, as I was under age, but I fell in love with it right away. My mom came in and said "Well, he's seen it now, so he might as well play it".

And I kicked butt at the game.

My cousin had gotten it for her playstation and i was about 6 at the time. I saw her play it and it intrigued me. I was a big history and tomb buff at the mere age of 6. I got it a couple months later and i was hooked but i put it on mute for a while cuz i was scared of the bear lol. I didn't beat it until 5 years later :(

I got TR1 demo that came with some magazine long time ago. The very next day I bought it. It was the first release. Since then I got every Tomb Raider as soon as they hit the stores. All of them first releases. I was hoocked (and still am). I have an external hard drive dedicated just for Tomb Raider filled with TR stuff like hundreds of pics, extra levels, custom levels, TR tools, patches, updates etc.) I still have even the TR demo from that magazine.
