View Full Version : Controls problem on Glidos.

Hey guys, I recently decided to play TR1 again, so I bought Glidos, and installed the game as instructed on Tombraiderchronicles.com but for some reason the game masses up my keyboard: when I press up arrow to run, Lara starts walking. I’ve checked the settings and noticed that it recognizes the arrow buttons as “the Shift” button.

Did anybody have this problem before? Any suggestions how can I solve it?

Thanks in advance! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hello Lior Knight.
From the Main Title screen, select the Control icon. Use the left or right arrow
in order for the name to display ‘User defined keys.’ Use the down or up arrow to select
the action commands you want then hit Enter, the box should move to the left. You can now
select which keyboard key you want to use for this particular action. NOTE: the ‘Default Keys’
can never be changed. Regardless of any new keys you selected under User defined keys, you will
be able to use those keys at the same time. Flashing cursor indicates that you have selected
1 keyboard key for two or more actions.

I did that, but whenever I select the arrow keys, it automatically selects Shift instead. I’m use to move Lara with the arrow keys so remapping the keys would be quite annoying.

The last time I played TR 1 I didn’t had this problem, and everything else (except Glidos) was the same. I even tried reinstalling my keyboard drivers but it still recognizes my arrow keys as the shift button. :(

The last time I played TR 1 I didn’t had this problem, and everything else (except Glidos) was the same. I even tried reinstalling my keyboard drivers but it still recognizes my arrow keys as the shift button. Well it's not a problem caused by Glidos. I guess you just have a bad install. I suggest you simply delete your TOMBRAID folder and install again.

From fresh, these are the steps:
1. Install VDMSound v2.1.0 (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/cgi-bin/downloads2/dl.pl?fx_tr_vdmsound)
2. Reboot the pc.
3. put TR1 cd in tray and close the autorun or exit the game.
4. Install TR1 using the
Advanced Installer v1.05 (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/cgi-bin/downloads2/dl.pl?fx_tr1_installer) choose TR original, choose Glidos, choose let installer configure vdmsound, finish.

If you already installed VDMSound, skip step 1, but be sure you have rebooted the pc before installing the game.

Thanks! I'll give a try. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Okay, I’m giving up.

I did everything you suggested, even rebooted my PC after installing TR1, as well. But for some reason the game’s settings won’t recognize my arrow keys (instead it keeps insisting that the up/down/right/left arrow keys are all equal to the Shift key). So, I can either play with NumPad keys which is pretty much uncomfortable or not play this game….for now I think I’ll skip it.

Anyway, Thanks for your help, guys – it’s much appreciated.

Lior Knight, could you run the following diagnose program?

Diagnose.exe (http://simulation.tombraiderforums.com/trhub/download/diagnose.exe)

Choose Run. Give it a few moments to create a report, then paste the text into your next reply.

BTW, does this problem occur when you install TR1 by the Advanced Installer without Glidos? Just plain TR1?
1. VDMSound btw: when you install VDMSound be sure to check on all options. http://joseph.tombraiderforums.com/Images/vdmsound-install-all.jpg
2. Reboot.
3. Install TR1 using Advanced Installer, no, don't use Glidos, no don't use DgVoodoo.
4. Run the game.

If this goes well, delete this install (delete TOMBRAID) and again install using the AdvancedInstaller, but this time choose yes i want to play with DgVoodoo.

I’ve tried your advice, re-installed VDMSound, and TR1 and still no good. But, then I’ve accidentally turned off “Num Lock” and guess what…it work! The game is finally recognizing my arrow keys. Weird, but who cares…

Thanks for the help, guys!
