I can't believe that in Tomb Raider Angel Of Darkness she fell for a guy like Kurtis I mean his good-looking but lara isn't supposed to fall in love.. especially that easy. The men that want to be with her should be afraid to get near her it's a bit like 'you can look but can't touch'. I really think that it would be a big mistake to bring a man for Lara in future Tomb Raider games, it's not that I would feel sorry for lara but the man, she'll hang him on a wall and throw darts on him. Do you see what I mean?

Friends... I thought Lara was supposed to work on her own and stuff.. Since men are afraid to go near her why would they want to be her friend even the women too. Anaya should have been terrified to go near Lara, Lara the dinosaur killer etc. That's just my point of view.

Saying Lara fell in love with Kurtis is rather naive. What she had with Kurtis was just a mutual attraction…it did mean they were gonna “date steady” or anything like it. It was just to show us Lara is a human being and once and a while she might be attracted to the guy.

Why would it be? Lara is first of all a grown female character, then a tomb raider. Just like she can care for her friends, she should be attracted to men. As long as they don't make too much of it (kind of like the first TR movie with Alex West) it's just normal.
But Lara actually having a boyfriend would be out of character.
Personally I don't see Lara being attracted to anyone or anything but the thrill of exploration.
IMO her personal life should take as little explanation and illumination as possible. Making her more human by adding friends, family, emotions, an in-depth biography etc. makes her less mysterious, too, and it also makes it harder to identify with her. In the first few games, Lara was more or less a shell with blanks you could fill in for yourself, and IMO that was perfect.

I dont want any boyfriend for lara in the game... i play tomb raider to be in tombs with lara , is not about lara´s romantic life... and lara is asexual lol and i like her to be like that... so no boyfriend for next tomb raiders, that was one of core big mistakes

All the fictional stories that deal with human being should be logical. Even Xena, that was a totally fiction character had a human side. Video games are no longer pixeled yellow ball chased by monsters, or little mustached guy who has to save the princess. The more they make video games real-like the more they should add emotions; one thing cannot exist without the other.
If they make Lara so human by showing her conflicts about finding the truth about her mother they should show a side of her being a woman as well. No one said she should have a boyfriend, and get married, and have billion kids…but sometimes they should show us that she’s has her passions and attractions – though not make it the center of the game (Like in the first movie, she and Alex West were rivals but you still could see the attraction, the chemistry between the two).

In the original bio only Lara was in the crash, and dumped her boyfriend. He was the Earl of... Something, I can´t remember. Her parents disowned her later.
Well, yeah, they are indeed confusing, but in my fanfics I use the one, where he dies in the plane crash. :D

That's the greatest blasphemy I've seen today.
Unfortunately for all teary-eyed old-times fans though, Lara's character entered a new stage of development in AOD and Legend. Where once the power of symbol and simple yet sharp image was enough to keep Lara on top, now it's no longer enough. She needs to become a "full person", my arse, to compete - just like Samus was, in the end, forced to take her suit off and show some pixelated flesh. Even religions make concessions to the times.
Not that I was bothered much with Legend Lara - I may be old-times, but I'm apparently no longer teary-eyed.

I never really saw Lara as the type of woman to hate all men or kick their asses for gawking, but at the same time, I just don't see her as having any sort of true romance. I know it might sound kind of cheesy, but her love is archeology and exploring - I really think that as a developed character, that is fulfilling to her. A little attraction and sexual tension can make for some good stories and drama, but on the whole, I just don't think that Lara is the kind of woman to get wrapped up in all of that.
And yes, I realize that she's only a character and all that, but if she were say a literature character, analyzing her personality wouldn't be considered all that odd. A lot of players develop a certain connection with her after playing the games and following her stories, so I think a little conversation about who she is isn't odd at all. Hell, people talk about her personality varying in the games all the time - This is really no different.

I assume it was all for so Lara Croft could have a child who could continue the Tomb Raider series. The idea of Lara's child doing her job for her seems pretty crap to me, but Lara would've been around 35 in The Angel of Darkess if it was set around the time in was released, 2003. Lara can't keep raiding tombs until she's 90, unless she doesn't age, but I don't think she doesn't age.

What's truly ironic is that Lara's started becoming more and more human because she's no longer a sex symbol - not after so many female characters modeled after her started popping up, including those little horrors like Rayne. I agree. I wouldn't really say that Lara was ever "in love-in love" as many females would put it, including myself. There are mutual attractions and even though her relationships can get quite heavy and serious, each guy she had been with had lifestyles that matched her own and no way can either Lara or the men she had been with can carry out a more serious and committed relationship at that time. Unless she was with the Earl of Farringdon. :p

This I don't agree. I do believe that Lara has feelings and mutual attractions. But there are people out there...even if they are rich and gorgeous who can live life how they would want to live it. And they can do it alone. Take for example those working in the church and practice celibacy. Their passion is for the church. Lara's passion is what she does in her life. Tomb raid.

In terms of Lara's character, I don't know if she'd have a boyfriend, get married and start a family. In terms of gameplay and game stories, Lara's romances should not be mentioned. I do not want to go from one personal story to the next and end up playing an interactive soap opera.

I personelly see Lara as soley Indipendent, thats why I ma attracted to the character (other reasons of course!). Lara doesnt need anyone to help her thats why i turn the voice volume down on legend. Lara to me, is someone who enoys life to the max by herself, she enjoys depending on her OWN wits and skills, she's very capable of looking after herself.
Thats the main draw to Lara, for me anyway, she doesnt need a man because she would probably end up shooting him, and I dont think I would like to see a pair of boxers scattered everywhere in Croft Manor

No, that's not what I meant. Imagine, how old I was when I started having drinks - 16. And it was not just beer. I wanted to show the paradox - I'm not allowed to buy alcohol in the western states, but I already quit.

for me a sex scene in a game is wrong, no matter what game it is (do you know gta san andreas? there was a sex scene and i hated it).

I don't think they will give her any kind of lasting relationship. Part of the appeal of a character such as Lara amongst male gamers at least is that she is single, unattached and available and that appeals. If she was Mrs Trent it just wouldn't be the same. In anycase look what a controversy that stirred. It's the same with any leading character in any fiction such as, James Bond for instance. He's attractive to women, or so I understand, and he's available. That makes a difference.
Besides this is a video game not a soap opera. ;)
If you want an example of how to do a relationship in a videogame or at least hint at one then just take a look at Half Life : Episode 1. Theres just a hint, no more than a hint, of a growing attachment between Alyx and Gordan, just enough to keep people guessing. And thats all you need. Any heavier then it would probably start to alienate people I suspect.

Just because she's a woman doesn't mean she has to automatically be paired off with a man. That's the originality of Lara Croft. She's one of the few woman in the mainstream media that doesn't have a love interest. Her life isn't about finding a man or living happily ever after with the prince, or playing house, or having children. It's about finding secrets to the history of man. It's about living her life free for no one but herself. Lara is just not that type of girl that would settle down. She's a Tomb Raider. I would be heartbroken if I saw the series turn in the other direction. In the comic book version of wonder woman, there was a time when she lost her powers, golden lasso and all. That almost killed the series. When Lara met Kurtis, that too almost killed the series. That is a path I never want to see lara take. Independence is what she stands for. Lets keep her spirit alive.
