View Full Version : Final Fantasy XII
Is it worth buying? I'm thinking about going to EB Games tomorrow to buy the Collector's Edition of it with my Christmas money, and wanted to know if it's as good as all the other Final Fantasy games, and if the Collector's Edition is worth the extra ten dollars?

The game is very good and the specia edition worths the extra dollars, because it has extra features like Final Fantasy History and other nice things and beside the case is very neat :D.

I don't like FF12. The storyline is bad, chars are fair and gameplay are not good balanced. If you don't play FF10 or Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, you must buy FF10 or Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. IMO
I like final fantasy X much better than XII.

Well yeah from that part I have to agree about FFXII, but overall the game is good, and FFX is must buy indeed :tmb: :D
I just don't like the new battle system in FFXII. I'll stick with the turn based system in FFX and FFX2.

Uh oh.
How did you like FF9?
Uh oh.
How did you like FF9?
I never played it. ;)
Doh! :D
It's just that I love FF9, and I'm not keen on FF10, and people have said FF12 is more like FF9 than 10. So I'm just trying to judge how I'll find it! :D

Yes, FFXII does have a more medieval fantasy theme, but I believe the battle system in FF9 is more similar to the one used in FFX. FF9 is turned based, right?

I didnt like FF9 that much, but for that time I thought that those FMVs were wonderful and the game was pretty good. :D
I got it yesterday, but now I'm stuck. I'm the fight just before you rescue Ashe, and the judges keep killing me. How do I kill them?

Ohh that was a tough fight, if you have quickenings then use them right away and then focus on the leaders first, because if youu beat them down all of them go down instantly sso it will make the battle easier. :)
A bit fed up of waiting for this game...seriously to me its been like 6 years with nothing decent being released from the franchise. FFX was amazing then everything after that just didn't cut it. FFX-2 (I pretend it doesn't exist...), FFXI...can't play it because my PC can't run it and then all the FFVII spin offs (I've only watched FF:AC...nice eyecandy but not much else tbh IMO). So if FFXII is anything like FFIX at least I know the wait will have been worth it in some way.
edit: sorry to rant like that :(

Is there a way to get LP (License Points) faster than constantly fighting in the airship? I don't have quickenings yet.

You have to fight to get LP, but you can still beat him though its hard but if you have some good items at your disposal, then it might be easy, or if you still have any problems then just lvl up one lvl and try again :).

Final Fantasy 7 was really good.:cln:

EDIT: I posted these so that those who ask how FFXII is ,when thinking of other FFs, may know it Oh, I forgot to say...FFXII´s specialties weren´t posted here. I´ve only written about what the other FFs also have.
:wve:
FFXII and FFIX: Princesses (with quite a different attitude), Castles (the ones of FFIX are way much better and bigger...the ones of FFXII get closed after certain events so you can´t access never again), blonde male main character (both thieves...one is a supposed empty vessel and deadly weapon and the other one is an empty-head dreamer), Enemies (in FFXII some are friendly until you attack them, in FFIX there are those who search for an item in exchange for a more valuable reward), Bosses (a VERY similar style, dragons...I won´t spoil anything else about them, but the dragons are awesome -awesome=big + furious), Big Dungeons (FFXII´s are even bigger), moogles...I can´t think of any other similarity, except for some weapons like the Whale Whisker or Ragnarok :)
Well, that´s a nice summary of the similarities...as I have stated somewhere else, these are other similarites with other FFs:
FFVIII: 6 characters: 3 men and 3 women, Ships and futuristic ways of transport, many of its GF´s names appear as the names of many of the ships of the game, the human enemies and biggest cities of both games have almost the same concepts.
FFX: voices and great quality cutscenes and fmvs, lots of weapons to use (lots), behemoths in both games are very alike (but FFXII features Behemoths standing in two legs and in four legs, depending on some sort of evolution, but those who rely on their four legs are stronger), a LP Grid, similar to the Sphere Grid (it allows you to "buy" with License Points -which you obtain from enemies- the LICENSE for an ability, magic, weapon, etc...BUT you ALSO have to buy -with GIL- the ability, magic, weapon, etc. from shops...e.g: you have to enable Curaga in the License Grid and then buy it from a shop)
FFX-2: strong women with ideals and objectives, an impressive character customization (you can dress YRP as you wish...you can give the FFXII characters whichever type of weapon you want, e.g.: Penelo can be equipped with Spears, Rods, Staves, Swords, Daggers, Bombs, Katanas, Ninja Swords, Guns, Crossbows...you can even choose if you want to wear a light or a heavy armor, a shield, the type of arrow -if you´re using a crossbow- or ammo -if you´re using a gun-, so anyone can use anything you want, as long as you´ve already completed the required LP grid-)
I finally got a quickening for Fran, but how do I use it? I got the walkthrough book with it, and it says when your using a quickening to the buttons that appear onscreen, I don't see the buttons.

You have to press R2, until a button appears like X, O, etc and then press it, its more or less like doing shuffle until a button appears besides Fran's name. It depends mostly on luck, the more you do will help you trigger a quickening chain maybe inferno or Cataclysim, and the more characters you have with quickenings will help you do it stronger. :)

And yes, it is worth getting. :wve:

:yik:
Is that even possible. FFX is an interactive movie if you ask me. 1 step and you're taken into a 5 minute (or more) cutscene. That game is such a turn off, oh it's totally linear. Nothing beats the classics (8 & 9), so far. Let's see what FF12 has in store for me in February, I just can't wait.

I think you´d love it RAID...it lacks story, strong characters (except for 2 or 3), cutscenes...FFX had all that and I loved it.
But FFXII has gameplay, huuuuge environments, more than 300 different enemies, 45 enemies that are purely optional (one of them is a dragon with 50,000,000 HP...and your characters can only deal 5,000 HP as a maximum critical hit...it took 14 hours to beat it), bosses that were greatly designed and take a lot of time to kill...etc, etc...
The other aspects can be found in the other post I have written
I like that dragon already :jmp:
I'm at the fight with the Mandragoras, and I keep dieing. I've taken out enemies like them before with a big quickening chain before, but it won't work on them. How do I kill them?

A firend of mine had problems with those Mandragoras before...and he never played FFXII again :p Try until you beat them, or else...you´ll fail the mission of completing FFXII.
I keep using quickenings, but once they're done, it's like one hit and my characters are dead:(.

I don´t remember exactly what I did. I have never used Quickenings though. They are a big waste of MP, so I avoid using them. Try to analyze which the worst mandragora is and kill that one first. They are all different. There is one that provokes Sleep with each hit. I killed that first since it was the most disturbing.
Uh oh.
How did you like FF9?
Uh oh indeed. But I doubt that that bunch of scenes aka FFX is better than any other game.
As for FF9
