:wve:

I've downloaded and installed IE7 a few minutes ago and restarted my PC, but when I enter in my user account, I get the following message before the desktop shows:

Explorer.EXE - Unable To Locate Component
This application has failer to start because Normaliz.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. And it stays when the desktop showes up. I can click OK, but there are no icons or Start menu on the desktop. Any help is more than welcome. :)

Tomb Raider Master, it seems to me you installed IE7 Beta.
I'm not sure. The link said it's the latest version. Do you know how can I fix my PC (I'm on the laptop now)? :)

Unzip, copy and paste into the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32

Impossible. I can't even enter in my user account. :(

Don't you have administrator rights?

Try in Safe Mode (press F8 furing booting)?

Tomb Raider Master

I've tried, but everything's the same. :( And yes, I am the admin.

Sorry TRM, I'm not sure I understand you: you forgotten your password or you just can't logon with your account? If you can't logon, which error message do you get?

Tomb Raider Master
28-12-06, 20:41
I can't log on, as I keep getting the message I wrote in the first post.

If I understand it right, there are no icons or Start menu on TRM's desktop because the process EXPLORER.EXE is not loaded. And the system could not load EXPLORER.EXE because it could not find NORMALIZ.DLL.

This makes me surprised because I've never thought IE is hardwired to Windows that way. However, I've just found out that NORMALIZ.DLL is only referenced by IERTUTIL.DLL, URLMON.DLL, WININET.DLL in system32, not by EXPLORER.EXE or IEXPLORE.EXE of IE...

You can't copy file via copy/paste here because Explorer is not available. But you can do it from a command console or from another computer (e.g. laptop) to via a network share...

TRM: I wonder if you already have a network between your PC and your laptop?

nothingtolose, you're right. :) About the network, I have the same Internet connection for both PC and laptop, if that's OK.

Just another questions:
1. Which OS are you using on your PC (XP, Windows 2000...)?
2. Did you download the correct IE7 installer (it's different for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003...)

I ask because Another solution just pop in my mind: you can run the IE7 installer again to make it fix things automatically, as long as it's the correct version.

While the desktop is empty, you can at least press Ctrl+Atl+Del to launch Task Manager. There select File -> New Task (Run)... => click Browse to locate the installer (IE7-XXX-x86.exe) and run it again...

OK, I have tried, but the installation was interruped a few seconds after. And I've just found out it's a Beta 2 version.

Is there a way to delete the whole thing? I just want to log on my PC, IE isn't really important...

Maybe uninstalling IE7 would help...

You can launch "Add/Remove Programs" from Task Manager by selecting File -> New Task (Run)... -> type "appwiz.cpl" <enter>

I've managed to un-install it and now everything's back to normal. Thank you, you really saved me.

I will ask a friend of mine who's a tech expert about the right version of IE7, but it's really not either urgent or important. Thanks again. :wve:

The right version comes from Microsoft. A validation of your Windows version is required. Maybe that was the problem? ;)
