It's only been happening recently, my laptop's disk drive has been whirring like a female dog everytime I go to run a game/dvd/CD, I really have no idea why but I'm scared it'll break one of my games/dvds/CDs with the amount of drilling noise it makes. In fact, it's all ready made it's mark on my Elder Scroll's III Morrowind CD, don't suppose anyone here has an idea why?

What did it mark on the Morrowind cd? It sounds to me it is running too fast. That could happen because of the cd being not absolutely round. A fast cd-rom player will accelerate trying to read it. You could try a tool to reduce the reading speed.
Try: CD Bremse (http://cd-bremse.softonic.de/ie/42842) (freeware) :)

Thank you Joseph, I'll try that :wve: It made two long scratches down one side of the CD :(

Edit: Don't want to go pressing buttons that don't need pressing and seeing as I don't understand german, what should I do once the program is installed?

OK.Copied from this site: http://www.cd-bremse.de/

Translation:

Modern CD-ROM devices work in speed ranges, that in the past were exclusive to harddiskdrives. Depending on the Quality of the drive's mechanics and applied media minor or major vibrations occur. Luckily there are many developement departments of wise engineers, that give their drives the possibility to alter their speed to slower, if desired. With CD Bremse you are able to activate these more modest rotation speeds.

After launching CD Bremse appears above Dialog. Size and kind of offered Configuration settings (http://cdbremse.dyndns.org/cdbremse_einstellen.htm) depend on the possibilities of your device. The recent version of CD Bremse can be downloaded here:

So, can you understand this page: Configuration settings (http://cdbremse.dyndns.org/cdbremse_einstellen.htm) ??? :) Or need more help? :)
