View Full Version : Tomb Raider III patch issue

Randall

I just installed the patch for Tomb Raider III and the game won't pull up. The screen goes black then goes back the desktop. Has anyone else had this problem?

Lord Icon

What kind of patch?

Randall
13-01-07, 02:50
The patch from TRC that makes it run on Windows XP.

Are you talking about the Multi Patch (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/vista/patch.html)?

Randall
13-01-07, 05:11
Yes. Is that patch messed up?

Lord Icon
13-01-07, 05:22
The patch is just fine.

I would suggest:

1. Uninstall the game.
2. Run TRRC (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/trrc.exe).
3. Install the game. Don't run it yet.
4. Run the multi patcher.
5. Run the game from the shortcut. Never run the game from the CD's autorun menu.

Randall

Okay, I'll try that now and tell you what happens with it.

Lord Icon
13-01-07, 05:30
I'll be here.

Just follow the steps exactly and everything should work just fine.

Randall
13-01-07, 07:24
It's still doing the same thing it was before. It starts loading the game, but then it goes back to the desktop. What else can I do?

Lord Icon
13-01-07, 07:34
OK... let's have a look at your system. Could you please download and run Diagnose (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/diagnose.exe) and then copy and paste everything in your next post?

Also, did you try running the game without patching it?

Randall
13-01-07, 07:41
It runs fine without the patch, but starts to slow down after playing for about thirty minutes. Also, it won't play the FMV's.

In the second box it says I've got the Level Editor installed. I've installed the Level Editor a bunch of times, and also had to uninstall it a bunch of times. Does the Editor not work on XP?

First of all your graphics card drivers need to be updated. From what I read nVidia ForceWare 93.71 (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71.html) supports your graphics card.

Before you update your drivers read THIS (http://www.nvidia.com/object/driver_installation_hints.html).

Also, before updating, create a Restore Point in case something goes wrong. It shouldn't but better safe than sorry.

There is Windows XP Enhanced EXE (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/tr5/editor/trle.html) for TRLE on Tomb Raider Chronicles site. You can try that.

Hi Lord Icon :wve:

Randall try to scan your PC for Spy/Malware ;) I don't like some of resident processes in your list, they seem suspicious:

WkUFind.exe 1740 Console 0 128 K
FWSERV~1.EXE 1044 Console 0 2,696 K
BackWeb-137903.exe 1456 Console 0 2,020 K
GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe 2916 Console 0 680 K
WkCalRem.exe 3920 Console 0 1,888 K
rhapsody.exe 1488 Console 0 27,364 K

Somethings that are on my PC I can't do anything about because my whole family uses this computer, so some stuff I can't mess with. Some of the programs I am suspicious of, but my dad gets mad if I try to delete suspicious programs. Google Toolbar is something my dad has on for Internet Explorer, and think it might be on Firefox also. Rhapsody is a music program that we all use to listen to different artists. Other than that the programs you listed, EscondeR, I've never seen them on my computer.

Why would the level editor interfere with TR3?..
I had a similar problem with TR3 after I ran the multipatch..the game wouldn't load..I just deleted it and reinstalled using the SoldOut DVD rom version instead of the CD rom version I'd used originally and the game now runs better than it ever did, with no continuous read from the disc..

Randall - Is your problem with TR3 fixed?

I don't like some of resident processes in your list, they seem suspicious:
WkUFind.exe 1740 Console 0 128 K
FWSERV~1.EXE 1044 Console 0 2,696 K

GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe 2916 Console 0 680 K
WkCalRem.exe 3920 Console 0 1,888 K
rhapsody.exe 1488 Console 0 27,364 K

WkUFind.exe - Is related to MS PictureIt.
FWSERV~1.EXE - I have no idea what this is.
BackWeb-137903.exe - Is related to HP Center.
GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe - Is related to Google bar.
WkCalRem.exe - Is related to MS Works (Calendar Remider).
rhapsody.exe - Is related to Rhapsody software.

Randall try to scan your PC for Spy/Malware ;)

That is always a good advice. Everyone should be scanning their computer for malware, spyware, adaware, viruses etc. on regular basis.

It still goes back to the desktop.

You have:
-updated your nVidia graphic card's drivers (Lord Icon's post)?
-Installed and run the multi-patch updater? If so, do NOT use any other "Windows XP Enhanced exe" The multi-patch-updater is the only update required.

Hi Joseph.

That enhanced exe was for TRLE and not for TR3.

And I don't rememeber does multi-patcher includes patch for TRLE? It does, doesn't it? I'm on my laptop right now so I can't check it out. If it does then yes, there is no reason to use any other exe files.

Hi Lord icon:wve: yes it does. :)

[That 'enhanced exe' should be erased from TRC... :pi:]
