Sound issue (XP)

Whenever I enter the main menu, the first few notes of the music keep looping, and in the tutorial, Lara's voice continues to repeat "welcome back to my humble abode". I have installed the patch and am running it on XP in windows 95 compatibility mode. I've just installed it today. Any help would be appreciated.

Do NOT apply the compatibility mode.
Instead, download and run our TR multi-patch-updater (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/vista/patch.html). :)

Okay...I installed the update (just the update, no utilities) and now I can't even get the game to start! It gives me the usual error message "tomb.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close". Did I do something wrong?

Hmm... Well maybe you have a hyperthreaded or dual core CPU? On XP with such CPU, it is known that the intro movie freezes and the sound gets stuck in a loop. But the game itself should run OK.

That is: you need the patch included in the multi-installer anyway.

So, let's start all over.

Uninstall TR3
Download and run trrc.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/trrc.exe) TR Registry Cleaner will remove all game settings left behind after uninstalling TR games
Re-install TR3.
Apply the multipatch updater.
Defragment your harddiskdrive. Preferrablky with Diskeeper Lite (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1207) (freeware)
Try the game again.I would also like to see your Diagnose.exe report. Click on following link Diagnose.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/diagnose.exe), select to RUN it, then paste the complete result into your next reply. :)

The same thing happened to me to :o but there was a lot of
scatches on my tomb raider games so we bought whole new set of 1-2-3
games :) No more repeating
