View Full Version : Outfits in Tomb Raider: Anniversary
What outfits would everyone like to see return in Anniversary? (Apart from the orginals we are all hoping will be back for sure.) Like clothes from Chronicles, or Legend... Or whichever game haha
I'd like the biker outfits from Legend. Haha... ;)

Black Legend Outfit
Black AOD Outfit
TR3 Cat Suit
All of them would be great! :D
Oh yeah and the catsuit. Muah-hah-ha!
I think I read somewhere that there aren't any outfits in TRA besides the default one.

^ THANK U!!!!!! i dont want this game to be barbie dressup like TR L
I don't really care how many costumes there are as long as the costumes aren't unlocked via the secrets (save them for the art, biographies, pictures, extra ammo or levels etc.) and the game is long and challenging. Unlock the costumes by completing the levels, five at a time, LoL.

If outfits must be included...then ONLY re-makes of the classic TR outfits should be included...
Ie Nevada combats, London Catsuit, Solo Swim suit etc etc..
There should not be 30+ unnecessary outfits... (cought goth, urban, suit cough) and outfits should not be the sole emphasis of the reward system...
Oo, :jmp: I'd like to see the classic outfit, and... Yeah, just the classic outfit.
As long as it's compatible with TexMod, I don't care about outfits.
There should not be 30+ unnecessary outfits... (cought goth, urban, suit cough)
If you don't like them... don't use them.
outfits dont really make any sense... in tomb raider 1 she never returns home... the moment she goes to peru the adventure is pretty much straight forward... (well, she COULD have gone home between some levels, like between the tomb of qualopec and st francis folly, but they don´t show that happening, and since she kept the same outfit - and the same menu itmes - I really believe she never returns home...), so she simply could not change her outfit :p
I wouldn´t mind seeing a few classic ones that fitt in the game making an apearence, like tr2 winter jacket perhaps, but I´ll be happy anyway cause the game is not really about clothes :)
Well for the Cistern level, Lara shoudn't travel is her classic uniform. I would like more like a catsuit for that level or even a wetsuit...Anyway, here is my list:
Oufits that I want in Tomb Raider Anniversary:
Peru:
Level 1: Caves (Classic Outfit)
Level 2: City of Vilcabamba (Classic Outfit)
Level 3: The Lost Valley (Classic Outfit)
Level 4: Tomb of Qualopec (Classic Outfit)
Greece/Rome:
Level 5: St. Francis' Folly (Classic Outfit)
Level 6: Colosseum (Classic Outfit)
Level 7: Palace Midas (Classic Outfit)
Level 8: Cistern (Tomb Raider 3 Catsuit Outfit)
Level 9: Tomb of Tihocan (Tomb Raider 3 Catsuit Outfit)
Egypt:
Level 10: City of Khamoon (Short Top Outfit)
Level 11: Obelisk of Khamoon (Short Top Outfit)
Level 12: Sanctuary of the Scion (Short Top Outfit)
Atlantis Levels
Level 13: Natla's Mines (Tomb Raider Chronicles Outfit)
Level 14: Atlantis (Tomb Raider Chronicles Outfit)
Level 15: The Great Pyramid (Tomb Raider Chronicles Outfit)
*Vavavant*

Amen. ;)
Finding the rewards should unlock much better things than outfits. The could easily make all those outfits unlocked already and by finishing every level with all the secrets you get to access another room in the house with a different assault course or something challenging.
Unlocking outfits sucks:)
And how do you supose lara would change her outfit between palace midas and the cistern? Carry the catsuit on her minibackpack and have her change clothes as an interactive cutscene? :tea: No thanks :p
cheers ;)

Ooooo. DO you know what is a Cistern? It is a nasty place. Lara can't get out of there with a *eeewwww* outfit.
Any thing could happend. Lara can find a outfit in the Palace Midas. Or even find one in the biggest room in the Cistern.

The outfits shouldn't be a reward for finding secrets, it should be unlocked after you complete a level. Save the secrets for unlimited ammo, extra guns, concept art, TR8 teaser...hopefully?
If the outfits are in TR:A, I want to see every outfit from every game, mostly the AOD outfits. :D I loved the denim one.

"a ewww outfit"? great...
"Lara can find a outfit in the Palace Midas" what?! right... I can picture the scene: lara walking between the corpses of the just killed gorillas, goes thru some magnificient ancient pillars... and then... "aha!", lara find a catsuit with hundres of years conveniantly laying on the dusted floor... it makes perfect sense offcourse, king midas was well known for his famous catsuits...
And yes I know what a cistern is... do you know who king midas was?

I already heard about him. *Cough, I mean, In the CIstern, she find a catsuit Cough*
I think she should have many different outfits but maybe, like someone said, not it being the entire purpose of the reward system.
In the begining of TR1 when she is wearing that red/brownish cloak (when the guy dies from the wolves), it would be soooo cool to see her not take that off until she gets out of the caves and reaches the waterfall. It would be so cool to see it flow around when she runs and jumps and climbs! And then she would reveal her classic outfit when it got warmer in the dino-area of the game after the first level and she would remove her sunglasses and cloak and you would get to the meat of the game.
But as an Anniversary game, it seriously wouldnt make any sense if they didnt include at least SOME of her outfits from the series to unlock (I starred the ones I think should be definate):
-Classic (default)*
-Grey Training Gym Suit (TR1)*
-Red/Brown Cloak and Glasses w/ or w/o hood (TR1)*
-Brown Training Suit (TR2)
-Sola Wetsuit (TR2)*
-Lara's purple Robe w/Dagger of Xian (TR2)
-Tibetan Bomber Jacket and Shorts w/Glasses (TR2)*
-Marco Bartoli Skin (TR2)
-Nevada Desert Outfit (TR3)*
-Antarctica Suit (TR3)*
-South Pacific Outfit (TR3)*
-London Zipper Catsuit (TR3)*
-Sophia Liegh Skin (TR3)
-Modified Classic Outfit, No Holsters and Low-cut Top w/"leotard" (TR4, modified coloring ect.)
-Young Lara (TR4, pig tails green shorts ect.)*
-Beat-Up Classic Lara (TR4, scratches/rips in clothing, no backpack? hair down? ect.)
-Russian Snow Base Outfit w/Beanie (TR5)
-High Security Catsuit w/Black Glasses (TR5, like the catsuit from Legend)
-Jean Escape Outfit w/Black Glasses (TR6)*
-Black Top and Vest w/Green Pants (TR6)
-Black Top w/Green Shorts (TR 6)*
-Vault of Trophies Wetsuit (TR6)
-Kurtis Trent Skin? (TR 6)
Anyway this would be a freakin dream to see these old outfits with the new Lara wearing them and to be playable! But seriously, this is an Anniversary game. You celebrate anniversaries, so (besides making this entire game, lol) what better way than to include bits from all of the series!
I already heard about him. *Cough, I mean, In the CIstern, she find a catsuit Cough*
Oh sorry, I guess finding the catsuit in a forgotten cistern, closed for hundreds of years makes so much more sense then finding him in king mida´s palace... maybe the catsuit was worn by the alligators? sure...
Oh, you heard about midas? Good...any chance you heard about him wearing leather suits? That would be fun.

yes in tomb raider 2 lara finds wetsuits...in a modern DIVING area... ring a bell? it is a proper location to have diving suits (DIVING area - DIVING suit).
In an ancient cistern you should find nothing but rusty keys, skeletons, wild alligators and rats...
OK then. Lara should just find it somewhere in the Cistern! Just like...Dunno!!:D
I'm glad we just have the original. I want just the Classic and the Training Outfit for the Mansion in TR1.

Lara can't find a catsuit in the Cistern. It is like a reservoir for water and it wouldn't make since that a catsuit would be left their because
a. Rats and Alligators don't wear catsuits and
b. Catsuits weren't even invented during that time period and
c. It's a wetsuit that is used for heavy swimming, not a catsuit, which is for sneaking and flexible maneuvering.
So no, Lara does not need any outfits UNLESS their plot related. No need to play the Egypt levels as a Goth Lara.
Lara isn't concerned about what's going to happen to the clothes she wears. She's not going to suddenly enter the Cistern, think to herself "oh dear, I'm going to get my clothes all wet" and then change outfits. That's not her way... at least, unless they carry over Legend Lara to TRA. ;)

Yes, but it's still smelly and dirty. Lara is too self-conscious to get smelly and dirty. Let's make her dress up in long pants, long-sleeved shirt, and a coat so she doesn't get dirty in the tombs.

What is all the point of discussing whether or not Lara is going to be wardrobe shopping whilst exploring tombs thousands of years old. She wears the same outfit through the entire game. If they have Lara's home no doubt she will have a different outfit there. Any extra outfits would come as unlockables, she will not be discovering the latest fashions just lying around in the some dusty old tomb

I would like... maybe around 5-10 different outfits ( as long as you get them when finding secrets and such... along with other things... i don't want to beat the game just for some outfits :) ) Would be nice to have variety... I mean come on... Why stick with one thing when your able to use various things :) And people say she is barbie... how the hell is she barbie? Everyone changes there clothing... and if they don't there most likely smelly and greasy and never clean after wearing the same thing day after day after day... Ick :S

To wear an outfit in every new location doesn't seem to warrant a "long and challenging game." :pi: Sounds like 6 or so levels. Ah well, we'll just have to wait and see.

... fine! Just the yeti outfit for Lara.Roaming around in that costume sure gonna scare some bats and bears away.
Well I want her to have a Catsuit (Even thought she won't have one)
^_^
I want the 2 original outfits of TR1 of course, and - why not - some of the outfits from all the previous Tomb Raider's would be a good idea. I'd appreciate it ! :)
Just the original outfit for raiding & the gym outfit for her mansion. And please I dont need any unblocable outfits cause they dont really raise the replayability. Something better unblockable like weaponry, ammunition, gun updates & so on would be much more better :)

I think apart from the default one there shoudl be some from the clasics like the Nevada, South Pacific, TR2 swimsuit. I don't want so many outfits. TR1 Lara is so ugly and has just one type of clothes but this doesn't bother me at all. :)

I think the whole main game should have the classic outfit as in TR1. But if CD choose to include unlockable outfits then it just HAS to be quality over quantity!
In Legend I found the constant repeats of the same outfit in a different colour or without the jacket to be a bit of a let down. I would have traded all the extra winter outfits for something more fun and special- like a cowgirl outfit similar to the one on Elen's TR Hub. That would have really suited the Peru level. TR is not and should never be a dress up game but if CD is going to include unlockable outifts then they should at least do it with more imagination.
If I were them I'd have the following as unlockables:
TR1 grey mansion outfit
TR2 Solar wetsuit
TR2 Flight jacket
TR3 Catsuit
TR3 Nevada outfit
TR3 Pacific outift
TR4 Young Lara green outfit
AOD Denim outfit
And 3 brand new original outfits by CD.
But most of all I'd prefer to have unlockable levels, weapons and minigames as extras. It's be great to play an original, brand new level from the view point of Natla, Larson and/or Pierre. :D

People referring to Lara as Barbie, not because she changed cloths...but rather because the sole purpose of the rewards system was unlocking outfits.
In my opinion, it’s completely understandable that Lara would change her cloths according to the climate where she’s at, but rewarding gamers for finding secrets and playing beyond the simple storyline by giving us 33 outfits to dress Lara is simply shallow and superficial.
Psychopompador
15-01-07, 19:24
agreeing with Lior_K. I dont mind new outfits to go along with the climate of the level, but having severel different winter outfits just to have color options was ridiculous. Also- the suit outfits were completely useless, since she never needed them in one of the levels.
If you want extra outfits, fine- but limit them to levels in the game itself. This is isn't one of those japanese dress up games
I'm sick of people saying that the game shouldn't have unlockable outfits just because they don't like them or want them.
I don't think the game should have enemies, baddies, animals, traps, puzzles, nothing. I don't like them.

I usually don’t. ;)
But again, my complaint is that the game rewards me for trying harder with something as superficial as 33 outfits. Sure, some people like dressing Lara…fine, keep variety of the outfits just don’t make them as rewards for gamers’ extra effort.

er.. you dont see the difference here? I assume you're being sarcastic, but that statement sounds ridiculous. how can you possibly compare playing dress-up for no reason, to completely eliminating the action elements of the game.
you are comparing 30+ completely useless outfits to actual gameplay features.

Something you can make yourself by moderating the game’s files. Why not give us something we can't make on our own?

I don't mind extra outfits if they are used in the following way:
-When you get to a location in which Lara is wearing a different outfit for the different climate, then that outfit is automatically unlocked in the mansion (this shouldn't matter for TRA, but I'm thinking ahead to TR8)
-When you win the game, the bonus outfits are automatically unlocked
What I hated about Legend's outfits is that the extra outfits were tied into the secret system. It felt to me like Crystal was saying, "You're going to replay the game many times to get the bikini, so we can get away with making the game so short." They over-hyped the "replayability" of Legend, which seems to be derived solely from the outfits, instead of actually bothering to make the game long and challenging. If the game is long and challenging, then I don't care how many extra outfits there are :D

l am a woman (long time since l was a girl) and found nothing strange about playing the original adventure in the one outfit, perhaps it is just a teenage thing. l am not playing the game to look at Lara, but to look at the scenery, so long as she is not wearing something she cannot climb in l am not fussed about the outfit and will be quite happy with the original, if they provide no other outfits and no home level l will still be happy with 1 outfit, disappointed about losing the mansion but l would live

One half can have dress-up Lara-thons and push-analogue-stick-athons for moving Lara past uninteractive backdrop scenery with nonstop jangly music, and the other half can have games like we used to play. Adventures through sublime interactive scenery and architecture, worlds full of danger, suspense and d.i.f.f.i.c.u.l.t.y.... Oh what a pleasant dream. :)

I wouldn't mind the black clothes coming back, or a few slight changes, like their version of the old costumes that were mentioned (ie Nevada one) but even just saying "outfit" is bad. I hope too that they aren't a part of the unlockables. Maybe (as was probably already suggested) it could just be something players get simply for beating each level. So, if you want the outfits, you actually have to play the game for them?

My Barbie Doll reference was that a Lara doll could be a merchandisable product and using outfits as rewards and checking out its popularity could be a subtle way of seeing if it could be a 'real ' product.

I bet you're all the same people who love to play The Sims 2.
Ward Dragon, Blackmoor and others have given constructive critiques on the wrong that is having multiple outfits for this game. And no, we aren't hypocrites. Even if we did play Sims 2 and enjoyed those varied outfits, that's kind of the point in playing that game, to simulate human living, and part of that falls into the fun of dressing up one's Sim ridiculously or nicely. I don't want to be told that I should be thankful that CD gave us any extras at all. They do this for a living (so it's fair to give them even some feedback), someone over there decides what kind of gameplay we'll get (coughIancough) and that's what we get. This outfit crap probably aggravates a lot of we (old) fans because it's possible evidence of the way that newer fans are taking over the franchise; adding in this crowd-pleaser, as superficial as it is to attract the bigger audience/fan base. It would be better if Eidos/SCi just allowed Sims to make an exact skin of their version of Lara for fans to play dress-up with her there. It's just a game anyway, sure real people change their clothes after a day, at least, when required, but it's just a game! They shouldn't be allowed to go crazy with all these damn costumes for Lara when the game should be about raiding tombs, exploring ancient ruins, etc.
That the outfits come as a part of the rewards system is very shallow and in some ways, very demonstrative of the kind of fan base that the new games may hope to attract (saying it again). TR's a game: it's very shallow to get that concerned about what a character is wearing, imo. If you're tired of seeing it, you've probably been playing it for too long anyway, so take a break.
If CD plans only to change the outfits to suit Lara's change of location, then that makese sense, but as unlockables? Yeah right. This game won't be worth $50 (or however it varies, depending upon one's location) if they stick to such a weak rewards system. And, there is a good reason to still be upset about it: it's highly likely that if CD (whoever makes the decision about keeping these clothes) does return us to the rewards system (with unlockable outfits) then they won't make it optional. It is asking a lot to please both sides, but it's not like we can do anything about it if the promise is that for finding secrets we don't get anything cool like extra behind-the-scenes type footage, or even levels or new guns, but instead get a damn bikini. It's not like CD would have the easy level with a rewards system for those who want more than 30 costumes, and a difficulty level setting with rewards that give a little more, with that extra fmvs or even ammo and new guns.
Where's the replayability value in the game if the best that we can get out of it is beating levels again just to be "rewarded" with a cool new outfit? Wanting it that badly is the only sign of immaturity, not being disappointed or upset about the prospects. I know you weren't the only one to say this, so this is just about all those who say that we should just deal, etc.
My point is if you don't want it, don't use it, but don't deprive others of whatever pleasure they draw from it. If people start complaining about outfits as extras and unlockables, they really shouldn't be getting extras and unlockables in the first place.
Saying we don't want them isn't the same as being very demanding in asking for all these details and attention to realism as what comes from some other threads, imo. You're right, they don't have to give us unlockables at all, but maybe it'd be better if they didnt, if it means getting all these pretty costumes and nothing more. And maybe it's even better without them, if it could also mean having longer levels, more exciting gameplay and more challenge.

Seeing as TRL had over 20 (I think) outfits its very possible to have EVERY outfit from all the TR's. But I doubt this very much so am not getting my hopes up. How about they make a game specifically for those who want to dress up Lara. How's this for a game:
Title: Closet Raider
Synopsis:
The mansion is ransacked and all of Lara's vast wardrobe is stolen. Lara must recover her clothes, especially the "Gown of Destiny", an ancient Etruscan garment of great power. In her worldwide search she discovers a wide array of new outfits, all carried with her as she explores so that one can dress her up as they please.
As she searches, she must unlock strange dressers, closets and armoires (the puzzles). She must fight her way through vicious shoppers at Herrods (the action). Many more adventures would await until she finally encounters the villain who stole the famed garment, Luigi Versace. Will Lara regain her vaunted trappings? It's up to you! :mis:
Nice... Really, actually, you should talk to Eidos about that... I must comment, though... Nicely Planned. :ton:

You can have multiple outfits in the game without it being considered some "Barbies Playhouse". Outfits should fit her environment. I always thought it was ridiculous in TR2 (if I remember it correctly) that she had shorts on in Tibet! C'mon! But I also don't think that a swimsuit is out of place if you're in Lara's mansion and you want to jump in the pool... it's all in the context. Someone of Laras' means and ability isn't going to go around the globe wearing the same outfit all the time. First off, it isn't always practical , and secondly, like any person, she would want some variety... and I don't see how that has to negatively impact gameplay at all.

I agree. I like unlockable outfits as long as it's quality over quantity- i.e. outfits that fit the environments and perhaps a few different ones just for fun. As long as changing outfits isn't too big a feature for the game in lieu of important things like gameplay, game length and difficulty. :)

Yeah, I thought the shorts in a snowy place was ridiculous too :p Anyhow, it's not the variety of outfits that I mind. I like having different outfits to suit different places/climates. What bothers me is having a ton of outfits as the main reason to replay the game and find all secrets. If the game was interesting and complex, then I wouldn't mind the outfits because they really would be extras. However, given Legend's length and easiness, the outfits seem like an integral part of gameplay, as if Crystal believes that giving us a ton of outfits will keep us happy so they don't have to make more levels :(

What outfits would everyone like to see return in Anniversary? (Apart from the orginals we are all hoping will be back for sure.) Like clothes from Chronicles, or Legend... Or whichever game haha
I'd like the biker outfits from Legend. Haha... ;)
If you mean like rewards as it was done in TRL, then I'd prefer just the shorts and blue tank top. If different levels require different clothing then whatever is appropriate for the atmosphere.
