View Full Version : Happy Australia Day!
Hello my fellow Australians :wve: Right now, it is midnight, 26th of January, which is the day that Australia was discovered. Australia came together as a nation on January 26th 1788. It has been more than 200 years now.
It is the biggest day of celebration in Australia, and is a public Holiday, which is why I am taking the long weekend off to go to the Snowy Mountains :D
I will be taking the long 3 hour drive to the capital city of Canberra first, where we will see a display of fireworks. Then the next day, we will be headed off to the highest mountains in Australia.
I have wanted to stand at the highest point (only 2,228 metres above sea level) since I was a little kid. Now is my chance, and this trip will be very important to me. It will feel like the first step for my future mountain climbing career.
Now, I will be away in approx 10 hours from now. I will return many pictures.
Happy Australia Day!
Well, I'm not in Australia but a very Happy Australia Day and I hope you enjoy it :wve:

Hey everyone :wve: I'm back from my short vacation... It's time to show you the photos.
Firstly, I stayed in Canberra for two days. It was a 3 hour drive.
This is the Telestra tower. It overlooks the entire city of Canberra.
This is what you can see from the top.

This is a picture of me standing at the top. It was very windy up there!
Canberra's Parliament House (my friend is in the photo)
The Australian War Memorial (please excuse my mother for the bad photo angle :whi:)
Now, a 2 hour drive from Canberra is the mountains. No snow, because it's summer.

Just me and my friend

Now I have to say that Mt. Kosciusko was one hell of a climb. It took us 2-3 hours to get to the top. But I felt proud as if I have achieved something. For my whole life, I have wanted to stand on the top of Australia, (pancake, according to Mr.Burns) and I did it.
It feels like the first step for my future mountain climbing career, which Mt. Everest will be my final task.
happy australia day saki, that's the reason you have eye sunburn, it is hot, if i were to climb a mountain, i'll go to a mountain with snow
Great pictures Saki:D :tmb:
Thank you both  Thank you everyone who has posted
My eyes should heal themselves... hopefully.
Could a mod please change the title to "Pictures of my trip to the mountains"?
