Could the reason that there was no outside in laras mansion be that there wasnt enough graphics to do sky or was it something else ??

It was to do with memory, apparently lara doesn't have her pony tail in tomb raider 1 because of memory space as well. They were clearly on a budget.

I would doubt it would be anything to do with the graphics, but I don't know. All a simple skybox is, is a large 3D cube which has textures of the sky on it..
There were little rooms with "outdoor" textures in them that looked like they were outside, which you could see through the windows. Tomb Raider 2 uses this too, but only at the end of Opera House. The rest of the game, and all consequent Tomb Raider games used "horizons", which were basically the same idea, but as an object rather than a room.
I love all the "openings" in the ceilings of Peru levels, where they've just put snow textures there and it's supposed to look like light shining through. :D

have you noticed the boxes in the hall are bigger then the diameter of the door, how did she get it all in there then?
With a bit of a struggle I should think.
I've never noticed that. I wish I could get my TR1 to play so I could investigate it :(

hmmm maybe lara magic lol
Anyway the reason there is no outside is cuz the masion was meant to be a trainin area to teach u basic stuff
Tr2 and 3 it was just like a fun place lol

I'm confused i thought the house at first was lara's fathers, but then i realised in tr1 she was moving into it (explains the crates), anyhow what would be cool is if we could meet Mr.Croft's Manor, heck it would be 3 times as big. (more winstons!).
Are we sure she was moving in? I vaguely remember her saying something like "doing inventory" or something.

She says that she is putting some things into storage.
She says that she is putting some things into storage.
Good, thanks! Guess she didn't just move in TR1. ;)
The mansion was done in a day, to add a training level, that's reason 1 why there is no outside, reason 2 would be that the engine at that time couldn't handle a sky.
as i remember the entry door was a hugh door, with a small door where people could walk in,... i guess the crates could just get in throu the big one instead,..
No, in Tomb Raider I it's just two small doors.
I wonder what exactly it was that she was having put into storage?

The engine simply couldn't handle a sky.. that's why the lost valley doesn't have one.. i heard it was supposed to be outdoors but they just put a black ceiling on it... if you climb high enough you can hit Lara's head of this supposed 'sky' when you jump..

Core probably didn't feel that it was necessary at the time.

Very true...
look outside the windows in the mansion you will just see a blurry, motionless, flat landscape that looks like a poor painting lol

Yeah, i noticed that too.. although if you stand beside a window and use the look button to turn Lara's head the outside does move a little... i'm pretty sure of that.. you'll notice it more upstairs in the study
oh and you can see her bike.....

*smacks self on head* of course, it is definatly the graphics, there were no outside places you played in in TR1!
or mabe because when you look outside the window, a atomic bomb exploded.:D
