View Full Version : If it was all real......
OK, this is a bit stupid but I thought it would be fun to start a thread on it. If you got trapped in the tomb raider game and were forced to work your way through it, how far would you get before death, ( presumably you have adequate weapons and can do all the amazing things that Lara can( e.g sideflips.)
Personally I believe that I could make it to Lost Valley as long as I could avoid getting eaten by a bear. The T-Rex is probably the only animal that would take the amount of pistol bullets to kill in real life as it would in the game.
Please don't warn me for making pointless posts.
Probably to the pool in the City of Vilcabamba! I doubt I could hold my breath long enough to swim down a coridor, up another, find a switch and escape. (Never mind about opening my eyes underwater :p )

It would take more luck than a leprechaun could provide, more skill than the greatest athlete's in history, more daring than any of the craziest test pilots just to get to Vilcabamba. The first break-away tiles would most likely kill you, unless you saw them before. Eventually a trap would get you, or you would miss a long jump or an animal would make you it's next meal. But that's the beauty and thrill of it all! :D
The wolves at the opening FMV. :D
Well, if I have all the abilities that Lara does I'd finish the game.

Odd question . . .
If I had all the skills Lara had, then it would simply be a matter of how far I could progress through the game without saving. For the record, I can make it through most of the levels in the original TR in this manner, but I'd screw up eventually and get myself killed. Especially during the last four levels.
If, on the other hand, I had to progress through the game as myself, with Lara's equipment, I'd most likely be screwed. I certainly couldn't jump as far as she could (I've tried once; it didn't work), and I don't think I'd have as good of an aim (IRL, it's extremely difficult to fire two handguns at the same time).
It takes a truly exceptional person to tomb raid. I'll go on a tangent and use the D&D game as an analogy. Just think of what Lara's stats would be if she were a D&D character (and these are just modest estimations):
Strength: 14
Dexterity: 18
Constitution: 16
Intelligence: 14
Wisdom: 12
Charisma: 18
And mine:
Strength: 10
Dexterity: 9
Constitution: 12
Intelligence: 13
Wisdom: 12
Charisma: 9

Exactly. If Lara could do it, so could I with her abilities :)
But without them, probably not further than the first wolf :D
I'f I don't stumble and I'm quick, them city of vilcabamba, I'd either die from the bear or the pool at the end of the level.
if i had the abilities of lara?... i guess till egypt?... the mummies would kill me as i dont ever know where can they jump from,.. or even better to the lighting thor room... i guess there i would just definitelly die...

Great stuff! Lara certainly wouldn't make a very good cleric, but she'd be a heck of a ranger! :D Actually I'd raise her wisdom a bit, and reduce her strength and constitution slightly.
You're right on about the "saves". No one, I repeat no one could get through without dying "in real life". Perhaps if one took weeks and weeks and rested, but even so unless you know the path and moves through the traps, you would not make it.
wow,.. tyrannosaurus..!! how many languages do you speak,...

Great stuff! Lara certainly wouldn't make a very good cleric, but she'd be a heck of a ranger! :D Actually I'd raise her wisdom a bit, and reduce her strength and constitution slightly. It's hard to be certain, but I would say that Lara has a lot more upper body strength than might be apparent, given that she has a powerful enough grip that she can routinely pull up her own body weight and fire a mac 10 with one hand (the pre-release Lara illustrations depict a woman who is slightly more muscular than the one we see on the cover). The high Constitution is also in consideration of the levels of sustained endurance (she most certainly has that proficiency) she undergoes.
As far as applicable class, I think Lara would be a "thief" of the "adventurer" kit, as outlined in the Thief's Handbook. This is one rogue kit that doesn't actually steal in the manner as other rogues, but undertakes similar missions as Lara. I think she's used all of the thief abilities at least once in her career.
Well, I'm no hero - in all probability, I'd have taken one look at that dart trap at the start of Caves and booked a seat on the next flight home :p

She'd certainly be on the strong side of that class. Certainly able to beat any rival to a pulp!
But by nature (and by the game's design) you are correct. She is a quite powerful, high level thief/adventurer.

Sorry to go off topic... but a fellow D&D nerd? Here? On TRF?! Wheeee! And you too, Eddie??
As for classes - Thief Acrobat, 3ed, Song and Silence. I rolled one up just so I could play Lara if my Arcane Archer died... :p
Anyhooo - I wouldn't even get as far as the wolves in the opening FMV. I'd still be trying to climb the damn rope to press the button to open the gate...

(IRL, it's extremely difficult to fire two handguns at the same time).
That's an understatement. Firing 2 guns like a wild west movie hero accurately is impossible, unless they're BB guns. On the firing range I attempted this a couple of times. Mind you I have been highly trained, and the results were atrocious. I did better with two 38's, but with my .357 and my partners piece I 'd be hard pressed to hit an elephant at that range. After the first shot's, you might as well chuck one weapon and go at it with the one.
Well, if I had all the skills and weapons that Lara has...I'd probably get to the end. :)
i was reading, of course, and remembering that trailer of seat, where lara is in a beach, and when the game is about to start she have to drive home and stay in possition for the game to start... i was thinking if lara was once missing, and there were another "dolls" to play with, with obvioulsy not half laras power,.. how funny it would be to watch them trying to climb up the rope and landing in the snow, and the already bored of life guide jumping out of the mountain by not standing one second more the weak laras replacement,.. or,.. once she enters how fast could she run away from the wolves shouting high notes, and arms front-spread beyond the guide or the cameras men,...:jmp: :jmp:

If Lara were a D&D character, she'd most definitely be a rogue (or thief if you go by the 2nd edition) :)

That should help you get through the obstacle course or gymn (im working on the rest)
I think about this lots of time when playing... I can't really imagine myself jumping like Lara and making sidejumps, so the wolfes would knocked me down right at the begining..:D
well i would probably kill the first batch of wolves then get tired and die from starvation!!

Actually kind of considering making my own D&D (Athkatla and maybe Underdark) based level (but don't quote me on that.... I have lots of ideas, but I dinnae have tha skills to pull it off, Jim!) involving thief theme... dunno yet. Gotta learn how to use the LE first (and get the BG2 mod finished first! :p).
All the way with Lara's abilities...

Wouldn't be able to climb the snow mountain before reaching "Caves". ;]

With Lara's Abilities:
Perhaps The Cistern !
Without her Abilities:
Lost Valley..I would freak out of the T-Rex !
Completly agree with Riven; it would be impossible for me to keep my eyes open in that old, murky water and hold my breath for so long. I think I might as well just shoot the wooden doors to avoid that bit..
If I had my won habilities and creatures like wolves and bear and bats had theirs I say I'd die by attempting to get over to the otherside of the Bear pit in "Caves".
If I had Lara abilities Id' probably die in "The Great Pyramid".That's where things start to get a little tough on a first try.

wouldn't have survived the plane crash when i was 9 :vlol:
.....well, to be serious, i probably would either not made, or barely made that final huge jump in the caves level (before the exit door). Either that, or i'd get mauled by wolves or ol' Smokey the bear, or I'd definitely drown in the long swim all in Vilcabamba.

A few people have said that they'd die in the City Of Vilcabamba swim. However, if my memory serves me correctly, that swim is not compulsory; it's just to get two secrets.

Yea, I'd run for the hills when the T-Rex would show up. And then I'd live shortly after killing him, until I reached the partially broken bridge. I'd try to jump across to the other side but I wouldn't make it and I'd break my leg and then get eaten.

Hmm. I'd probably last (with my own skills) until Lost Valley. That T-Rex would just freak me out and I'd run for the hills.
With Laras Skills? I'd probably do everything possible to AVOID fighting that T-Rex :D
But sooner or later I'd die in Atlantis. I have lost count of my deaths there.

I have been dropped from aircraft into battles, traversed for many miles on foot over inhospitable terrain in Afghanistan and other unfriendly places, been shot at and hit, hit a few baddies as well, and before I was severely wounded could out-athletic almost anyone, even at my old age. And I couldn't even do half of what Lara does.
But if it was realistic, it wouldn't be worth a plugged nickel. :D

Probably not far. Fair enough if you have her abilities, but you need her experience as well.
Maybe I got drown in the Cistern. There's a lot of crocodiles there too. And my God...they were fast:yik:
Hmm.. Hard one. If I had her skills (reflexes, aim, speed, dexterity etc) The Peru levels wouldn't be difficult (maybe the rollingballtrap in Qualapec's tomb would be difficult). Note that you do not need to go into the water in the 2nd level.
The lift-stunt in the FMV would simply be impossible for me.
Assuming I would have magical medipacks and can survive multiply wounds Pierre wouldn't be a threat either. However the great room in the 5th level with all these hights would be extremly challenging. It would take many many hours before I would finally have finished those challenges, assuming I can hold my breath for a long long time.
Except for the breathing-matter it wouldn't be impossible to get to Tihocan, it would only be a long matter of time. The crocodiles maybe, but hey, we have lots of magical instant medipacks. :D
I think I would die somewhere in Egypt, or at least in Atlantis, unless I have a LOT of luck.
