Hello everyone :)
As i see everytime , many many people likes the TR1 T-REX , i don't know why , but if we see , we'll see that TR2 and tr3 have a t-rex as well , and they're maybe tougher and better than the original , what i want to ask is :

Why is the tr1 trex so special ?

For me it was the fact that it was one of the biggest enemies I'd ever seen, the ground was trembling and the music started playing, you just knew that you were in trouble.

And I just love the T-Rex, that's what made it even more fun.

You didn't expect an enemy like that and then he comes around the corner! In TR2 they're even 2 T-Rexs at one place where you could find a secret. It's like they had no idea where to put them :p

Can't wait for Anniversary.... :tmb: Good sig! ;)

In Tomb Raider 1, it was a huge suprise, and it made sense that it would be there. In Tomb Raider II the two T-Rexes were just shoved in for no reason, and in Tomb Raider III they were just re-using the Lost Valley idea from the first game.

I think it needs to be remembered in the context of when TR1 was released - it was one of the first 3D adventure games, which was impressive enough at the time. But then just as the initial 'Wow' factor of that was beginning to fade, you suddenly turned a corner in the third level and encountered a bloody great T-Rex, which had you right back on the edge of your seat again. I'll never forget that moment from when I first played TR, and it's why I still love The Lost Valley level to this day :)

Though given the three fingers and South American location, I'd say it might have been a young Giganotosaurus or some other Charcarodontosaur instead.

I agree with EscondeR! First experience.

It totally startled the **** out of me. The sheer size and time was totally unforeseen. The unpredictability of it makes it more unique.

One tends to remember such TR moments. :)

Then again, maybe I'm just fond of prehistoric monsters.

tr2 t rexes were just easter eggs, and the trex from TR3, is just another recreation fully colored and better graphics from the tr1 lost valley,... it was like a remake,.. just to make sure some of the classics enviroments are included,... thats why tr 1's T rex is so important,.. it was original, scary, and unexpected,...

The T-Rex was a sign that Tomb Raider doesn't deal with the reality rule ;)

I think its the whole first time deal, and its something you'd never expect. You see a couple of raptors first, then the screen shakes and the music plays and for me the first time he stopped, roared, and then came barelling toward me, I'd say thats very memorable :D

First experience of thinking Whoaa!!

Now it's not so special, in fact there were many more important and special bits of TR1 than that part to me!

There's an obvious answer to that. It was the FIRST t-rex in a Tomb Raider game. Once somethings already been done it's not as exciting. It can be almost as excited, but not quite as much.

Ok , so everyone thinks that it was a huge surprise :D ....

For me , the T-Rex in TR3 was more scarier and it was a bigger surprise lol :p , and of course more powerful ! :tmb:

Damn, that Tr3 Rex was so hard to kill! And he/she's a lot more agressive and hungrier than TR1s !

Cos, it was the first one and very unspected from me i must say.

Better...probably or surely, but when someone say T-rex, it's TR1 that came to my mind.

There are a lot of Dinosaurs's names  , I'm not sure if TR3 dinosaur is really called a T-rex because it hasn't the same look like TR1 , so it may have another name.... who knows ?....
But for TR1 , we're all sure that's called "T-rex" , same thing for TR2 because it's a copy/paste of TR1 :)

Tyrannosaurus
31-01-07, 15:03
But for TR1 , we're all sure that's called "T-rex" No we're not. As I said in my former post, it has three fingers, and really looks more like some other carnosaur (which T.rex is not even considered to be anymore).

Anyway, the reason the TR1 "T.rex" is such a big deal is because dinosaurs are clearly the greatest thing in the world and anyone who thinks otherwise should be killed.

In my opnion i think the valley area should have been bigger, with more t-rex's and more dinosaur enemeas.

Hey, here's something I did today that you might want to consider trying for fun: I made it through the Lost Valley leaving the T.rex alive. I killed all the raptors from a safe distance, collected all of the gears, and had a hell of time getting out of the valley. He kept knocking me back, but a few medipacs and quick manuvering and Lara was out of there, now content in the knowledge that she might one day make a good environmentalist.

Look, it's a T-Rex, okay? :X

You could apply all your knowledge and find every reason you want to argue that it's NOT a T-rex, but you're forgetting something: This is a game, not real-life. Locations don't matter. The number of fingers don't matter. What matters is what the developers were thinking and what is portrayed in the game, and that is a T-rex.

It's not like the Velociraptors looks and size were correct either, but they're still velociraptors, because that is the intention.

We're impressed by your dino knowledge, but this is fiction, got to take things with a pinch of salt.

Yes, I did not kill the T-Rex when I replayed it the last couple of times. As I said before, it is a far greater challenge to see how few animals you can avoid killing and still do the mission. Glad to see that others feel the same. :)

Look, it's a T-Rex, okay? :X Not like any I've seen, except for maybe the artist's restorations made before the arm bones were actually known.

You could apply all your knowledge and find every reason you want to argue that it's NOT a T-rex, but you're forgetting something: This is a game, not real-life. So?

Locations don't matter. The number of fingers don't matter. Why not?

What matters is what the developers were thinking and what is portrayed in the game, and that is a T-rex. No it isn't. It's a large theropod dinosaur of some type, but it's not a T.rex. By the same token, Lara's "uzis" are really Mac-10's, though the difference here is even less obvious. One Turok game for the N64 labled a Styracosaurus as a "Triceratops". Their intent obviously didn't match up to what they in fact depicted. The same holds true for writen and spoken communication.

It's not like the Velociraptors looks and size were correct either, but they're still velociraptors, because that is the intention. I'm fine with calling them "raptors", but to call them Velociraptors would be incorrect, as they are nothing like that. At least, not if you actually know anything about them.

We're impressed by your dino knowledge, No you aren't. You're annoyed and/or intimidated by it. You think I'm some pretentious intellectual trying to prove I know stuff to everyone. But in truth I just love dinosaurs, and this is the way I think.

but this is fiction, got to take things with a pinch of salt. I am a writer of fiction. I like to make sure my fiction makes sense, and sometimes I have fun applying sense to other people's fiction too.

It's a T-rex because they wanted it to be a T-rex when they made the game, simple as that.

Out of everything you said, it's this line that made me regret my post.

You're right, I was way too harsh when you all you did was express your views, opinions and observations.

I apologise :(

I played TR1 when I was at third grade at school. TR was THE game back then (as well as it is still THE game now (Y) )
well, I was playing, I felt from the waterfall, I killed some wolfs, I grabbed some edges and huge scenery appeared plenty of plants and trees and raptors and when it wasn't expected an enormous dinosaur came out of the nowhere running towards my lara! heyyy! I believe I started to yell hahaha
It's one of the most memorable moments of "THE GREAT" TR, isn't it?

Indeed :) Though playing and replaying it makes you forget the fear, the amusement, the surprise you had to deal with so out of the blue. everything was so sudden back then, our green pal coming out of the pitch balck atmosphere just to say hello to our beloved dear lady. Ohhh, lovely

To me it was a surprise that a T-Rex came from the corner! I didn't expect it and for a game of it's time the TR fans somehow congratulated Core for a remarking TR experience.
