Thanks a lot, and you actually made it easy to read!
Hey, thanks Aussie! :tmb: Those are antique!!! :D
Thank you, Aussie. Very interesting :)
$99.95
I wonder, the price is so high. Was this a mistake or real price of the game?

This is great!:tmb: thanx
Ahh the start of a legacy :tmb: What great scans - reading about TR before it was known.
"Meet Lara" :D

We always pay a lot for our games, price has not changed much, we still pay $100 or more for new games. l did actually think it was about $10 cheaper though, but l did not see it when it first came out
excellent. Interesting read. Thanks aussie ;)
WOW! Those must be ancient, thank you for finding such a great treasure! :tmb:
Excellent read. Note the "instant classic" and "miss at your own peril" quotes. These reviewers knew they were on to a good thing. :tmb:

Amazing how the review was right on target. It's everything that was written about it and still is.
"The main button that you will use is the action button. When this is depressed, Lara will perform many tasks such as picking up items, pushing and pulling blocks and levers, as well as defending herself with good old fashioned firepower." :D

Alternatives? Are you kidding?! ... Tomb Raider is a masterpiece of design and has set the standard for all 3D action games to come.
:D
Thanks for sharing, Aussie!
"The soundtrack adds immensely to the already eerie atmosphere present throughout the game, but apart from the occasional dramatic interlude heralding an area of importance, there is no continuous music to accompany Lara on her quest. Rather than detracting from the game, the long periods of silence serve only to heighten the suspense. There is little to match the chill that races up your spine as the sudden growl of a hungry carnivore rumbles from the darkness!
The graphical detail is awesome, to say the least. Within five minutes of startinf the game, the whole office was standing around like slack-jawed gawkers at a messy car accident and people who had previously shown no interest at all in video games were totally mesmerised. However, what is more impressive is that the graphics aren't just there to look good, they actually form an integral part of the game.

Destined to become an instant classic, this is the 3D game you've been waiting for and Tomb Raider doesn't fail to impress. You'll find yourself thoroughly enthralled, not only by the intriguing storyline, but at the wondrous visuals. Quite simply, this is a superb blend of brilliant graphical design and thoughtful action, with plenty of puzzles that will cause you many a sleepless night. Tomb Raider will challenge your perception of what a platform game should be - miss it at your peril!"
Exactly, exactly. :tmb: This is the way i was drawn into the game myself!
Yes l do remember all the slack-jawed young males standing around a PC in a shop one day and actually asked what they were all watching out of curiosity. That was the first time l had ever heard of Tomb Raider, but l am afraid the graphics were not enough to interest me in gaming at that point. Was not for almost another 5 months when l finally brought a PC, and tried out a demo of Tomb Raider 2 that l got hooked....by the exploration not the graphics ;)
Well, my story: i saw the TR1 game announced on national TV, the 8 o'clock news, 1996/97. They showed a tiny excerpt. Lara walking, running and climbing up (or jumping up) a wall in a big room. It is somewhere at 3/4 of the game. They called it a revolutionary breakthrough in computer graphics and animation.
As if lightning struck me. An animated 3D world where you could walk around in. Jeezzz!!!!
It was in fact the main reason i bought my first PC, later, in June 2000. :D

Wow. Have other old magazines with Lara:)))):)?
Thanks for posting! Why was the price $99.95? That seems a bit high to me..
It's because it's in Australian dollars, not American :) So it's a different currency with different rates.
When I lived in South Africa, this game came out costing R150 (Rand), and I found it for R99 one day and was so excited :D
Also, did anyone notice two flaws in the review! He said that Larson STOLE the first piece from Lara.
And also, quite shockingly, he says Lara can aim at two different enemies at once, if they're close enough together. How did that reviewer play through the game and not realise she only ever aims at and hits one bad guy at a time
Perhaps he played a beta version of the game that could have been a bit different to the the final version, l do believe they were playing around with dual aiming
Thank you, that's amazing... Definitly the words "become an instant classic" makes all feel proud:D
Funny how they don't mention the T-rex....

It says in there she can aim her guns at two different enemies! Damn, I wish that would've stayed...
It's interesting how she has grenades on her belt in that render.
These are priceless, aussie!!! :jmp: The legacy begins. :tmb:

No it's not. On its own, playing without help or cheats, it's a hard game. There were no internet walkthroughs back then. Sure, you could buy a game guide but almost nobody did back then. You'd be laughed at!
