Probably because that level is either deeper into the mountain, or inside:wve:
I'm going to be really dumb, and ask:
Snow Witch??
Surely not this one? ;) (http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41033000/jpg/_41033716_whitewitch.jpg)
in order to make you feel the progresion, the levels starts with lot of snow and frozzen walls,.. and after you get deeper and deeper in the cave, it starts getting dry, or just warmer, until you reach the climax into the lost valley,.. where by the colors you can tell its warm, and really humid... at least warmer....

I think it's supposed to read 'the snow, which appears...' Riv
Unless of course you were being sarcastic, in which case my explanation was entirely unnecessary :o

yep that would be my comment too;) ,.. i'm sure he was sarcastic,.. he is not really known for being rude or something alike,.. je je je:cln: he is one of the good guys, remember?,..:)
Seriously, I didn't realise.
its not that big i suppossed,..
and about the snow thing,.... i was thinking on any other gradation on the TR1,.. i mean,.. in the first block of levels,. goes from snow to tropic enviroment,..
in the second one,. is the only evolution the fact from going on the architectural styles?... is that the only evolution along the levels?...
and on the third,.. i cant really recall any evolution .... all of them looked more or less the same,.. i guess the deeper and closer you get to the scion the more extrange creatures you get to see,.. but ,.. we have all of them seen at least once,.. (where did we first saw the flying atlantean)

Think about:
Caves - Snowy...well...caves
City of Vilicabamba (is that how it's spelled) - Dry caves
Lost Valley - Tropical...well...valley
It doesn't make sense.
why not??... why shouldnt it make sence??...
i mean is the fact,.. you have snow in the top of the mountain, then it gets warmen while you are getting down, until you reach the bottom or valley, and then is green,.. and in some places like the klimanharo, you have desserted areas,.. so it can go from really frozzen till really hot,..
this block of levels just make it a little bit faster,... which is nice,. i would play a game in which i need to run 32 km to get into the tropical area,...

It doesn't make sense, of course, but I really liked the sense of progression and continuity that the levels gave you as you explored them. Or it might have just been a rationalization for why Lara didn't need to wear heavier attire in the first place.

I like that it doesn't make sense. :)
This is simply poor game design, nothing more.

:yik: Ok, now my question really was stupid! :o http://www.storagebin.us/smilies/smilies/bonk2.gifhttp://www.storagebin.us/smilies/smilies/bigblush.gif The first thing I thought of was the post a few months back where the poster showed us a screenshot of a glitch in which everything, including Lara, turned dead white. Because it's a glitch, you might call Lara the "snow witch" in that picture.
This all just shows the funny things our heads start doing to make sense out of something.

She's scared to venture there. The Sun Witch rules in Vilcabamba and the Snow Witch doesn't want to be melted. :)
Makes sense to me. Lara climbed up the mountains past the snowline and entered the cave area which still had snow. She went down to the city of Vilcabamba which was inside and had no snow, she then went down further to the Lost Valley which was well below the snowline, outside and protected on all sides by mountains and much warmer with a tropical climate
Trust an Aussie to make sense :tmb:

That's right
What doesn't make sense, is Lara wearing that outfit in a very cold cave.
I guess she should be with a coat, and take it off at Lost Valley.
Not that it REALLY matters, but you're not really past the snowline. If you add up the height of the first 3 levels by the time you're at the lost valley you're only the waterfall distance minus the distance you gain in elevation when you climb up then down the valley. Even if snowlines go from thick fallign snow to tropical in about 40 feet of differance, you'd be able to see snow higher up, because she can see further up the mountain then that.
But it doesn't really matter all the same
A'gith, You've got waaaay too much time on your hands :D

Actually l have come to the conclusion that people who wear shorts all year round have lost all sense of cold in their legs or are just superhuman. For the last 10 years l have seen several men who wear shorts all year round. Yes even in snow, occasionally when it is cold they wear jackets but not often. One fella walks his 2 huskies everywhere, he has the best tan l have ever seen on a fair skinned person and obviously never feels the cold, or the heat for that matter. His huskies think it is a bit warm in Tassie though, they like eating an ice-cream each day when they go for their walk :)

Move to Chicago, no shorts here at 4 degrees F!

If you go back and replay the first 3 levels you will see she goes further than 40 feet, she was going downwards through all three levels, from the outside exposed snowy mountains to the protected Lost Valley. True perhaps the valley should not have been tropical under normal circumtances but it still explains why we only had snow in the caves area. Unfortunately my usual PC is at the shop being fixed, but l will see if l can scrounge up some screenshots later
First level: She goes slightly upwards, about 2 squares, then down about 6-7 squares. Then she's in the room with the wooden see through wall which is on the same level as the exit, so she's about 4-5 squares lower
Second level: She drops about a block after the fight with the wolves, which she regains at the end when she climbs the stairs to the temple
Lost valley: She starts 4-5 blocks lower then the caves, only main height differance is the waterfall, which can't be higher then about 40-50 feet. Then I believe she climbs up further then she does down to get to the lost valley, gaining a little bit
City of vilambamba you're not really ever going down... except for the rooms you get the keys but you go right back up again
Caves you do go down, but you also go up in the bat room, and the room with the timed door. You only go down in the cracked floors drop, and to the end room.
And of course where I say you lost 4-5 squares

City of Vilicabamba, which level was that? please give a screeny :P
She went down a bit then climbed up and went down a bit, so her height did not change much before reaching this point
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/aussie500/Tomb%201/caves20ao.jpg
She goes down to the bottom, then down the stairs, but climbs up slightly to reach the cavern with the wooden bridges. Then through the room where you jump over the bear pit and down some more stairs. In the room with the timed door she went down more stairs eventually falls through the floor to this level
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/aussie500/Tomb%201/caves53pr.jpg
When she come out into the city of Vilcabamba we can see the city is inside the cavern, hence no snow.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/aussie500/Tomb%201/cityofvilcabamba30jy.jpg
She does not really go down at all from start to finish in this level. When she enters the Lost Valley level she goes down the waterfall
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/aussie500/Tomb%201/Lara01.jpg
And then after climbing up and then down inside the lower cavern comes out slightly lower than the bottom of the waterfall. True she did not go down a mountains length, but then we do not know how far she went up in the first place. The overall feeling was of going down once the game started. The only place we saw snow was in the caves area as far as the wooden bridges, then the snow was gone
City of Vilicabamba, which level was that? please give a screeny :P
It was the level where the bear was in the stables
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/aussie500/Tomb%201/cityofvilcabamba17ud.jpg
l forgot about the door at the end of the caves and the gate being on the same level, :o all l can say is Core made a good go at giving the impression of going downwards, hopefully in the anniversary game we will get to go down more
shorts: in the south of germany "in the mountains" the german folks use shorts,... most of the time,.. at least the most conservative folks of bayern?...
progression in TR1: yes sure,.. but we need to know that life in real nothing is square, even when it looks like we should know of some possible declinations all around, so provably it is mean to have some lows degrees of "inclination"? in each level,. wich add some more difference between los valley and caves,..
and observation: today in Bonn, germany, it was snowing the whole morning and everything was already getting white when the sun got out,.... now everytihng is dry and on almost 10 degress above,... my point? is that there can be big difference between places depending on the enviroment, and dependin gon the high,.. we all should know that too... possibly thats a microklimate created over there,.. its quite normal and happens regulary everywhere,.. high contrast between really close places...
Ill say it again : Bad game design :ton:
