I'm assuming it will be compatible with both operating systems. :wve:
I was also wondering about Vista... I haven't yet upgraded from XP yet, but I've heard that Direct X9 games right now are playing better on XP than Vista as the drivers haven't been upgraded for the new OS yet. Is this correct, and if so, will it still be that way once Anniversary comes out? I was hoping to have my PC in top condition for the release of the game....
TR AE will probaly be a DirectX9.0c game. All DX9.0c games today still run better on XP than on Vista.
Basically, for gaming performance Vista has nothing to add except DirectX10, for which it is too early yet (no games programmed for it yet), plus you'd have to have a DirectX10 card which gives you 2 choices: GF 8800GTS/GTX, both quite expensive, and as said useless for DX10 at the moment.
Which means if you have a high end PC with a high end DX9.0c videocard, running WindowsXP, you are in top condition.
Thanks for that Joseph! I guess maybe I'll just upgrade to Vista this summer.... No rush after all, as prices will only go down. And an 8800 of any kind is completely out of my price range for the moment.... Would totally love to have one though. Guess I gotta keep dreamin'.....
So I have a Radeon X800... runs Legend just fine, so would this be ok for Anniversary would you think?
It should be compatible with both. :wve: I'm not upgrading to Vista for another couple years, they need to bug it out. XP works fine for me.

It depends what you consider "fine". AE will be released for PS2, PSP and PC. So that could mean that the Legend next gen version is used.
So it depends on how you are satisfied/dissatisfied with the X800's performance, somewhere between lowest and highest settings for Display in the game's setup menu.
Personally i LIKE Vista, a lot. theres some features in it that are fantastic for families and the like. As we get to grips with DX10 you'll see vast improvements in gaming too (lots of barriers built into dx9 are removed etc)

i like it to be compatible with both systems, and i will upgrade my computer to Vista when i have enough money
My main worry is if it'll be compatible with my graphics card... Legend worked in non-NG, but... :/

I couldn't agree more. Buying Windows Vista right now is like buying a beta version. Never upgrade to a new operating system within the first few months of release. Although with Windows Vista, you should probably wait longer... A LOT longer. :vlol: Honestly, Microsoft is such a joke.

Why u say that? have u used vista? i've been using it since very early alpha/beta versions.. and i have to say i am impressed with what they've done.
Ignoring all the `its looks just like the mac OS` or `they should have done this before` arguments flying around, its a solid OS, has some great new features built in, which cant be just bolted onto XP, and its been incredibly stable since RC2..
TR-A will be supporting both, tis still DX9c based, not DX10.
Thanks for the info Jaywalker. Nice to hear ffrom you.

After owning a Macintosh PC, you'll change your mind about Windows completely.

Ah, so you know what I mean then. :p ;)

Nowt wrong with global standardisation :)
Mac went Intel
Windows went Mac
I'll wait with upgrading. So far Vista has nothing to offer to me but DX10, so I won't buy it until I really want a DX10 exclusive game. The 3D surfaces don't interest me at all, I'd disable them right away. They just distract from the stuff that matters, I'm a substance over style kind of person. That's why I don't like using Macs, too, the OS is just way too fancy.
Plus, the system requirements are insane. I guess there's a lot of stuff in it that aren't really needed, so I'd stick to the most basic version anyway.

Me too!I don't play videogames anymore except for TR....But I'm planning on upgrading my card for Anni and to replay Legend in NG!
No compelling reason to upgrade. Yet.

I like Vista a LOT too. I completely agree. And i'm awaiting anxiously Directx10 becoming reality and an improvement! :tmb:
But i'll stick to XP for gaming and most of my applications, as XP's performance is still superior at the moment.

TRA will support both, that's good :) Do you have to do anything extra to get it to work on Vista too? Hm, considering that Vista is not just a new version of XP, do old PC games still run on Vista?
Let Vista bed down, then buy it - just run the Vista compatabilty check first - i was surprised at what it was not currently compatible with :whi:

Macintosh PCs can now run Windows-based applications/games with a special software called Parallels Desktop. The software allows you to run both Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X simultaneously. It's really amazing. :) Read more here (http://www.apple.com/ca/getamac/everything-ready.html). The only problem is that it could get quite pricey.

I'd stick with XP for gaming just now. Vista just doesn't have good enough drivers available for it, Legend doesn't run properly in Next Gen mode on top end nVidia cards due to driver issues, apparently, and Vista drivers for my sound card are still in beta!
I've been using Vista since the early beta's (I was one of the testers before it went public :jmp: ) And say I like it a lot, but it's not ready for gamers yet.
Although Vista has a nice interface, and does have DX10 (and I can use, just upgraded to a 8800GTS), it goes through system resources faster than XP, and has a lot more compatibility issues than XP, at least for now.
When I finally buy it, which will probably be within the next few months, I'll install it as my primary operating system, but leave XP installed on another hard drive, and that way, it won't matter what these games say about operating system, I'll be able to play them all :D

If Its On Vista I Will Die
I think it will be on XP. And it uses DX9.
So everything will be fine.
The first games, that use Vista and its possibilities come out later.
And why upgrade to Vista when I don't even own a DX10 graphic card?
XP runs fine and when I upgrade my PC later the DX10 cards will be cheaper.
So don't worry...
Legend doesn't run properly in Next Gen mode on top end nVidia cards due to driver issues, apparently.
I don't think this is the case, I have an 8800GTS, and although the odd textures doesn't display correctly, or some of the shadow's may look strange, it's certainly not an issue, and overall it looks amazing in nextgen with everything enabled. I'm hoping the same of Anniversary
As for Anniversary, I'm sure it's DirectX 9.0c. There's no reason to have it run on DirectX 10 when it will use current-gen graphics. I play TRL maxed out with 16x Anisotropic filtering and all that good stuff, and I can even play Next-gen smoothly sometimes, with a decent framerate, so I'm not worried about upgrading for TRA. I'm actually saving up for a new rig so I can play Crysis when it comes out this summer, and eventually the TR7 they're working on right this minute.

Yeah, I think it makes more sense to buy a whole new PC every 2-3 years, and make some small alterations rather than buy lots of expensive parts, what if they release PCI-Express 2? and you've just spent a whole load of money on an amazing PCI-Express card which isn't compatible with a new PC?
mrcube: Pci-express2 is not meant for graphic cards, but for other devices.
For graphic cards, the limits of PCI-e are not even reached yet.
I just got a new laptop with Vista, and so far I love it. I think Vista is the sort of thing you should get only with a new computer because a lot of people are having upgrade issues. I've never played TR on a pc before so I don't know whether or not I should get Anniversary for my laptop. My only other option is PSP and seeing how Legend was on PSP I don't know if I want Anniversary for it. If I do get it on PC I will have to buy an XBOX 360 controller, but should I really spend that much money just to play one game?
Unless you have an expensive gaming edition, laptops are not fit for gaming anyway. Vista ready means that Vista can run on it, and doesn't say anything about gaming performance, heck maybe the Aero theme can't even run in which case Vista basic is all you get.
I have a Dell XPS laptop preloaded with Vista Home Premium. My hardware supports aero so I guess it could be ok for gaming.
I assume it will be XP, HP and Vista. Good thing we have an XP in our house because I'm the only one with an ME. My mom and dad both have a XP... :( Begging them to let me UPGRADE!!! :p
I have a Dell XPS laptop preloaded with Vista Home Premium. My hardware supports aero so I guess it could be ok for gaming.Aero is only the desktop and menu theme. This does not mean at all that your laptop performs well in DirectX9.0c games.
Well, try it out I guess... There's no really knowing without trying. And, if someone's tried already... Umm... Maybe, CPETE, you'll get lucky!! :p

You see, and I knew that , I build PCs! I think I meant PCI-E 2 as in the next generation of 'Speed'
Anyway, moving on from that, as far as laptops and games go, they don't go in my experience, Laptops just aren't designed for gaming, and even the extreme gaming editions won't perform as well as desktops. You can give it a whirl on the laptop, but my guesses are you won't have any luck, and if you do, it won't be amazing.
