View Full Version : lara wont grab in XP (TRII golden mask]

i'm running premier collection TRII golden mask (where Lara starts at the great wall of china). I can't get her to grab or climb - even on the introductory obstacle course - unlike on my old Win98 setup. I've tried changing compatibility mode (from blank to W98). Also, installing TRII then TRUPDATE. when that didn't work i installed TRUPATE then TRII - still no climbing. sorry if this in lurking in the foum somewhere. i guess i've done something daft - but what??

J.

Welcome aboard, jacque.

First you should update your graphics and sound card drivers (if any).

Then try our new Tomb Raider Series XP/Vista Multi Patch. (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/vista/patch.html)

[Edit]: Since you already applied a patch I would suggest to uninstall the game first and start all over.

thanks for speedy responses and the welcome.
but ... hmm. My drivers are all up to date per the sony vaio site; and i'e been round the reinstall route a couple of times before my first post. I've downloaded TRUPDATE, run it, installed TRII, gone to setup [but did not change any settings...], then clicked the game icon to play. Walk, run, roll, but no grab/climb...Is there a thread which walks through the installation of/with the patch, in case i'm doing soemthing there in the wrong order?

Do you mean it as in ctrl just won't work? Have you tried changing the grab control to something else?

exactly. i'm using restyled hotkeys (as the laptop keyboard wont easily support up/down as well as pgeup/pgedown) and have "enter" as the action key, and " ' " as the "run" key. pressing run - action (holding the 2 down together) should give me a climb/grab, i think - but no.
After seeing yr message, I also tried with the default ingame controls/cursor keys. up-ctrl (run forward-action) got Lara to climb beautifully, but she could no longer jump (alt).
clearly something wrong with the control -to- activity wiring... i've run the DirectX test, and was told the laptop was running directx9.0 without problems.

I suggested reinstalling the game because I didn't know which patch you used. In my previous post I gave you the link to the latest patch developed by Simulation. But if you tried that specific one there is something else you can try.

First of all I have Sony Vaio as well (laptop and desktop) and trying to play TR on the desktop was, for some reason, not possible. Never looked into it too much since this is not my gaming PC.

Now, I know that Sony preloads some of their own programs. Some of them are hot-keys/keys in general related. See if there is a program like that running on the background. In fact disable all the non-essential backgound programs and see if you still have problems.

thanks again. i couldnt see any programs which were definitely setting hotkeys (there was plenty going on in the background, though...). i reinstalled TRII, and played the assault course without trying to alter any of the keys. Using a portable numeric keypad all seems to be well. Hurrah! So i think i'm fixed (unless i find I can't shoot anything!!).
