I found a little quote in my Tomb Raider Legend Guide about TR1
I cant copy it straight out because its not with me at the moment, but it says that the Sound Effects in TR1 werent Voice-Acted. Shelley didnt voice-act Laras grunts etc.. It was done using various other sound effects, mixing and putting them together.
Just incase anyone wanted to know. :wve:
erm, it sure sounded like a voice to me.
a bit of a complicated way to make a grunt noise, rather than use a person, but hey, if thats what they done....

Is that why they kinda sound the same in TR2?

I've heard something like this, too. But I heard that were voices from the team, well, men's voices and they made the sounds higher.

That's interesting and believable. Almost everything in games in the '90s were done by computer.

eh, I find it hard to believe that anyone would take the time to synthesize a grunt when you can record it yourself and tweak it in under one minute. :)

It is kinda ludicrous isn't it. Too many geeks overlooking the obvious! :D

To record a person and tweak the voice requires that you pay the voice actor and the sound editor. To manufacture a voice requires only a sound editor and therefore only one person to pay.

well yeah, but it doesn't require a voice actor. Toby Gard or anybody sitting in the room could've grunted.
I'm grunting right now!
Shoot, why aren't there talent scouts knocking at my door?
hmmph, what a shameful waste of my potential. :cln:
I've seen an interview where they said everyone in the team made the grunts, including the men lol
Good Find!

i use to feel it a bit akward,.. but i guess i get use to it,...
still i think it is really extrange sound... yes
I've heard people (me being one of them) are very superstitious about noise; if you make a noise in where you are dying you will die (well, anger spirits) so says the superstition. It does sound like a lot of trash, but maybe S. Bond believed it too; maybe she requested not to have her voice in SFX, just voice acting.
Just a thought..
mizuno_suisei, thanks! The original text is:
Tomb Raider fans may be curious to learn that Lara's many gasps and grunts of exertion were not performed by the original actress hired to provide her voice. They are a mixture of sounds provided by Core Manager Suzie Hamilton, level artist Heather Gibson, and even sound effects designer Martin Ivenson - with, naturally, the latter's contributions adjusted to a higer pitch.
