I think it was a nod to Raiders Of The Lost Ark in a way, Indiana Jones' guide was killed in it at the beginning (but by spikes) and so Lara's guide must die, but by wolves :D

My brother on the other hand, when he was little he thought Lara Croft was a real, living person the games were based off of, and that she was really old and lived in England somewhere stuck in a wheelchair after getting paralized on one of her adventures. My family has quite the imagination. ^.^

Anyway, I'd read in a hint book once that the guide is supposed to be named "Carlos", but no one refers to him as anything.

I felt bad for Carlos, because they made it all through the mountains and he was almost where he needed to be and then he got killed. After walking through the freezing cold. Climbing up the mountains in snow, and then getting mauled to death would be a horrible way to die.

The guides name was Purina. The purpose of that scene is so a player doesn't feel bad about Lara shooting up every lving creature she encounters.

I really don't think he was hired Natla, well, maybe not to kill Lara. She could've paid him to get Lara up the mountain to the opening of the caves or Lara could've encountered him in a nearby village. Who really knows? I hope this scene stays in Anniversary!
