It's always crossed my mind, Qualopec and Tihocan iced her in some way and I never understood how she survived.
Think Han Solo in carbonate ;)

They cryogenically froze Natla! 'Suspended her in animation' if you will. Damn advanced beings those Atlanteans!

I guess their society didn't believe in capital punishment. The design documents stated that Tihocan, Qualopec, and Natla assumed the roles of high priests in Atlantis rather than just rulers. Perhaps the punishment was considered that much more severe given that Natla wouldn't be allowed to reach the afterlife.

I think they locked her up for good. Here's the transcript!
Natla: (screams) You can’t do this!
Qualopec: We condemn you, Natla of Atlantis, for your crimes. For your flagrant misuse of your powers and for robbing us of our…
Natla: You can’t! I…
Qualopec: Breaking the free bond of consent that our people are ruled and secured under, and invading Tihocan and myself with our own army. Our warriors emptied from our pyramid so that you could use the pyramid – its powers of creation – for your own mindless destruction.
Natla: Mindless!? Look at you! Neither of you have one squirt of inventive juice in your heads. Wasters!
Qualopec: (turns to Tihocan) Let’s just do it.
Natla: (pleads) Tihocan!
Tihocan: You used the sacramental place as a source for your individual pleasure, as some freak factory.
Natla: They’re survivalists. A new generation.
Tihocan: A slaughter heap now. And you. We’re going to lock you in limbo. Make your veins, heart, feet, and that diseased brain stick solid with frozen blood. Greet your eternal rest, Natla.
(Qualopec gestures to a mutant who flips a switch. Translucent circular walls rise up above the dais and a substance begins to fill the chamber)
Natla: You won’t rest either, or your damned continent of Atlantis!

...So how did she survivem, if it was eternal?
Because they didn't intend to kill her, just suspend her in animation. Some sort of 'neither living nor dead' limbo for the rest of time. Bomb / meteorite / explosion blows the cap off her capsule and she gets melted and clambers out to safety I guess!

Ahhh! So thats how she survived the fall in Great Pyrimad, where Lara pushed her off.
That bit I think was something like:
She falls all the way and has a mid-flight transformation into her mutant self, flies off to the final room.
OR
She falls all the way to the bottom, smashes into the floor, with her last morsels of strength she pulls herself to a safe place where she injects herself with some of her magic genetic experiment juice, semi-mutates into a winged atlantean demon :D
I like that one best, it's cooler I think!
That factfile Natla concept art made me think she actually smashed into the lava when she fell down - she looks like she's taken quite a battering! :D

And she looks like she's been rolling and scraping around on the floor in TR1 itself too - torn skirt, torn top, bleeding arm.. Yep, I think she smashed into the lava and then made the transformation herself ;)

I don't think so Rivendell. If she fallen into the lava, it will hurt her because Lara's bullets can do damages to her too.;) I think she transformed in mid-air and then in the process she's got protruding wings, parts out of her body that's why her dress is a mess:D

But we didn't see any of it. It was a clip. It was suggested. If it was ingame then perhaps energy would've been taken off her. All it was was a part of the story, nothing to do with the energy / health system. Don't forget about the amount of unrealistic things in the game, it's fantasy, nothing more. What the developers said, goes - we can't let 'logic' get in the way of it ;)

Although part of me wants that to remain a mystery. It was always cool to ponder what happened - she falls, we think she's dead, then she pops up again at the end :D
I'll tell you exactly what happened.
I used TRPlayer to view the cutscene from any camera angle where Natla falls towards the lava pit; her animation freezes mid-air above the Lava! Not very logical, and due to technical things... but it's cleared that up! She does not sprout wings and she does not go into the lava!

Lol Howaito is correct - I've noticed that if you watch the clip normally and follow Natla's path she falls just where it gets dark and stops. Obviously we aren't supposed to see it and this makes no logical sense. We're supposed to believe she fell all the way ;)

Maybe she called one of her flying pets and it caught her? It's a pity we never actually saw her interact with the Atlanteans, but she can probably control them when she wants to.
Also, I wouldn't say she mutated or shapeshifted to grow wings, if you take a closer look you'll see her wings are in fact a small creature she wears like a backpack, and the fireball-shooting arm is connected to it. It looks more like some kind of an Atlantean bio-weapon than her true form revealed.

She has wings by the end of the game right?Well if she survived the floor since we never sactually see her hit the floor maybe she transformed while falling and then used her wings to fly to safety.

Anyway, I'm surprised you don't believe me; they certainly wouldn't waste hours making an animation of how Natla survives the fall as you wouldn't see it anyway! Riven, if I can get Tomb Raider working again I'll have to take heed of that and try to see if I can see her mid-air freeze in game!

Howaito, I'm pretty sure you're misinterpreting some of the posts. It's not that people don't believe that what is shown is like you describe; Rivendell agrees with you, as a matter of fact. But I, for one, don't think that's all that happens in the story, it's just a cut-off in the display. If the programming was a little more sophisticated, she'd probably fade out in some way, to keep Natla's fate concealed (though of course with the long fall, we assume she dies). Otherwise, it wouldn't be a surprise when she shows up again.

Did you actually read my post? I pointed out Rivendell agrees with him/her. The rest of my post argues that a video is irrelevant - the game simply doesn't show the result of Natla's fall, in order the we can later experience the standard movie shock, "Omigod, the monster isn't dead after all!"
I don't see ANY posts that are being mean to Howaito, which I was trying to make clear. The other posts simply speculate on what might have happened after the cut scene ends. Sorry if I didn't make that plain.
The video would certainly be interesting for showing the events from a novel point of view, I hope Howaito is kind enough to post it.

IT's funny you got to take a picture of her. When you start after the hatch or the video where Natla falls, there's no way down. And if you look from down, it's impossible to see here because it's black since it's too high.

This screenshot was actually taken on the level Cut4.PHD or something like that, it wasn't taken on The Great Pyramid level after the cutscene. It's quite easy to take a PrintScreen; just line the camera up on TRPlayer and press the button!
This being a cutscene most of the level is not there if you explore around, so I think that is a stone texture in place where a tunnel may be.

She probably grabbed a ledge just like Lara. Although her fall was pretty much "I'm gonna hit the ground" fall.

wel just like lara if she had enough momentum she woulodnt be able to grab a ledge but maybe she grabed a ledge before she gained the momentum and crawled into a cove thing and transformed then..or maybe one of those creepy creatures cuaght her before she fell and gave its live to fuse into natlas body....(yeha i have given this alot of thought)
