Sony has announced the recommended retail pricing for its first-party PS3 titles. The console is due to launch across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Oceania on March 23.

The games will clock in at 39.99 (approximately $78) in the UK, making them cheaper than Xbox 360 games (which retail at around 49.99) and the same price as Wii titles. In Australia, the games will be AU$99.95, and in New Zealand they will be NZ$109.95.

It's great that they're releasing the games for the same price as PS2 games. And the downloadable content is pretty cheap as well. So, pretty good news for customers and a bit of good press for Sony.

That is really not as bad as i thought. However, i think in most stores they will be 49.99! Places like GAME and HMV, but time will tell!

GAME doesn't seem all that bad with what titles they do have on pre-order, about 60/40 in 49.99's favour

fortunately i've been saving the points on my GAME card so that i'd be able to buy a PS3 game...if i managed to get a PS3 at launch, which i am so all i have to do now is pick one :D

rarely shop at HMV so i'm not sure what their pricing is :)

I tend to find GAME either really cheap, or far too expensive. Some of the games for 360 are £49.99 and i wouldn't pay that! I want Gears of War, but i am waiting for a price drop, plus i am playing Zelda just now, and i am busy with uni anyway :D

i doubt i'd pay 49.99 also, fortunately though the titles i do have my eye on are 39.99 so that's fine, plus with PS2 i tended to look at offers (not pre-owned but proper offers reduced to clear kinda thing)

peripherals and such i don't really buy unless i need to,i actually save quite a bit on consoles :D i only pay top price on a game if it's one i really want :jmp:

I think at last i have grown up! I can wait on games to come down in price now! Well some of them! Or maybe i am just busy with Wii! On second thought! Me grown up? Nah! :p

i spend wisely, a game has to jump out and say buy me, then i will

as for growing up, well i view gaming this way...no matter how old you are, if you enjoy everything that gaming has to offer........DO IT

i'm fast approaching 30 and i'll admit i love gaming, i like to see what delights developers can come up with, plus gaming keeps the mind alert (depending on the genre) :jmp:

I agree! Although i think i will draw the line at Wii and 360, because people already think i am a nightmare!

More good news:

More details of the PS3's PlayStation Network in Europe have been confirmed today in an announcement from Sony.

In the UK, games will cost between £1.99 and £6.99. In Europe the Network downloads weigh in at between 2.99 and 9.99 euros, or approximately £2-7 ($4-13), meaning that the UK cost is in line with the rest of Europe. Prices are slightly cheaper than the Wii's Virtual Console, where games are priced at between £3.75 (500 Wii Points) and £7.50 (1,000 Wii Points), and the Xbox 360 Live Arcade, where downloadable games cost between £3.20 (400 points) and £9.60 (1,200 points).
