Expect the new PS3 controller to rumble even better:

quote SCE:

"We are very pleased to have reached a cooperative agreement with Immersion regarding the use of its advanced vibration technology (haptics technology). We look forward to working closely with them as we explore new and innovative ways to utilize this technology in PlayStation products."

quote Immersion CEO Victor Viegas:

"We are pleased to have put this litigation behind us," said Immersion CEO Victor Viegas. "Our new business agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment is specifically intended to enable advanced vibration capability for the benefit of the PlayStation gaming community. We are happy to provide our technology in this regard and hope to make technical proposals very soon with respect to use of our technology in the PlayStation products."

Sony: Rumble is a 'Last Generation Feature'
Nintendo and Microsoft didn't get the memo, apparently.
By Patrick Klepek, 02/26/2007
The reason Sony didn't incorporate rumble into SIXAXIS wasn't related to a lawsuit over patent rights, but because it was a "last generation feature," according to Sony's president of worldwide studios Phil Harrison. Speaking to GameDaily BIZ, the outspoken exec. dashed hopes of the feature making a comeback later in PlayStation 3's life:
"I believe that the Sixaxis controller offers game designers and developers far more opportunity for future innovation than rumble ever did. Now, rumble I think was the last generation feature; it's not the next-generation feature. I think motion sensitivity is. And we don't see the need to do that. Having said that, there will be specific game function controllers, potentially like steering wheels that do include vibration or feedback function -- not from us but from third parties."
Ouch.

I don't know, but they wern't the only one's to report the story. I thought it was well known?

It was Phil Harris who said it. Straight from the horses mouth.

It's hard to believe anything Sony says anymore.

Did you guys know it cost them 172,5 million dollars?

150 million for using the rumble without permission on the ps2. And 22,5 million for the license to use it from now on.

That's a lot of money. Probably nothing to them.

for starters Phil isn't the sharpest tool in the box.........

EVERY console maker lies, they want OUR money...they also steal each others idea's too but i won't go in to that :D

pretty soon Sony haters will have nothing to complain about, they diss the machine now (because they can't afford one) soon as it comes down in price and see an awesome exclusive game the PS3 will be the best thing ever...it's called hypocrisy..........i say this,if you hate it and Sony DON'T buy it...EVER :jmp:

Thats good to hear. That was my only (besides the current price) complaint about the PS3. Dualshock 3 would sound much much better.
