View Full Version : Should Lara have a pet in future?
Only for the mansion, it could be a cat or a dog, I mean, if she had a dog, it could sometimes follow Lara and if Lara stays upatairs for a certain amount of time then the pet pines for it's owner because it's not allowed upstairs, anyway, what do you think of the idea of Lara having a pet?
Her mansion is big enough for a Tiger ;)

She already has two monkies at home. They are called Zip and Alister ;)

Tomb Raider is not a Sims game Phlip, you want to play with simulated pets there are plenty of games that have that sort of thing.

And a tamed T-Rex running around in the gardens...but of course, nothing can stop you from shooting it :p
Hmmm. A pet ? In TR ? Lara would not have time to have a pet so there would not be one. So knowing that, its hard to imagine a cat, dog or a tiger even walking around the house.

Seriously, no way. I think we already had enough pointless features in Legend, so let's not have them in future Tomb Raider games, huh? Winston was pretty pointless in Tomb Raider 2 and 3 (And even more pointless in Legend; he just stood there doing completely nothing. :confused: ), so why have something else just as pointless which follows you around as well. And personally I can't imagine Lara Croft riding a horse, and if I want to ride a horse, I can do it myself or buy a horse-riding game. I don't want to do it in a Tomb Raider game.

Remember that Lara does have a huge aquarium in TR3! Those fish kind of count as pets... I believe the aquarium replaced her treasure room. Makes one wonder where the treasure went.

Comng back from Avalon, she brings back a saber tooth tiger...which hunted in pack and are probably mentally more like dogs: they can be tamed.
I see it now, smooth as mercury, ripling with muscles like a Cape lion and affectionate, playfull but restrained (they could weight in at around 600 pounds + and hunter buffalos at full run) since it knows Lara is the alpha ...er...female.

It's true that if we continue to ad thing like that (outfit, animal etc.) it will turn like the Sims !
But I would like a -Lara Croft Style- animal like a tiger or a wolf, but not a cheesy cat ...
Don't forget that at first Lara Croft was suppose to be a killer ! And if we continue to ad emotion, Lara crying, barbie Lara... It will not be Tomb Raider... I think we can mix the 2, sometime Lara can be so angry and dangerous and other time she can be funny ! :D
wwweeeell yes, and no. firstly- in a non-following way it would be good to see animals in the tr mansion. maybe a big fish tank like in tr3, or maybe a terarrium with some reptiles- or a really giant greenhouse with all kind of exotic birds and reptiles... lots of reptiles :cln: something like that would add a nice detail. i liked the giant fish tank in tr3:p
on the "no" side of it, is the kind of idea the comic had... lara doesnt need animals to do work for her (that comic pic was nice but really cheesy!), i like to think she prefers to do her own thing... and besides, she shoots many animals in tr games so its clear she's not an "animal lover". she wouldnt keep a pet as a companion, i dont think.
oh and tr will NEVER be like the sims =) but i think more add-on things will start appearing, which is fine because if you want you can just ignore them and get on with the game (like outfits- they werent essential but theyre something there once youve finished the game)
all these people complaining about things they dont have to use!!

I loved her giant fish tank in TR3 :D I wouldn't mind a few animals around the Croft estate (just dogs, birds, fish, cats etc. Horses may be going a bit too far and distract from the purpose of the game).
No pets on the actual adventure though. Firstly, it'd seem wierd if Lara was shooting other animals whilst being assisted on the trip by Rex the wonder pup. And I don't want the game to stop having animal enemies. The pet may easily become a liability and get in serious danger. It's just a little strange. I'd sooner have a human helper (like in TR4) for a small part of the game, than an animal. Or maybe Lara gets a tiny, little bit of animal help in the game, like in RE4 when Leon is assisted by that dog against El Gigante. :)

A dog or something in her mansion? I'm not totally for it, but not really against it either.
In the actual game, though, no thanks. Dependents like kids and animals and other characters that you have to look out for in games and movies really stress me out.

Winston was pretty pointless in Tomb Raider 2 and 3 (And even more pointless in Legend; he just stood there doing completely nothing. :confused: ), so why have something else just as pointless which follows you around as well. And personally I can't imagine Lara Croft riding a horse, and if I want to ride a horse, I can do it myself or buy a horse-riding game. I don't want to do it in a Tomb Raider game.

In my country (Ireland), riding a horse is an exhilarating past time for anyone who tries it.. very adventurous and fun... isn't that what Lara would like?
Personally I think it's not a good idea for the game 'cos it's a distraction and nothing more but if you can't see Lara riding a horse then you don't know Lara, nor have you ever ridden one (i assume).
So while I'm against the idea of pets in TR people shouldn't mock horse riding in general as the sense of freedom and speed and wind in your hair rivals any adventurous pastime like rock climbing and absailing IMO.
When done right it's not for sissy girls.
To be honest, I rather see Lara having a Porsche as her pet, than an animal. Would be awesome, seeing her drive her black porsche through the hills, escaping from someone that is after the artifact she just found...
*Lara runs out of the tomb with the artifact in her hands*
"Zip, you got my pet ready?"
"Ah Lara! Yes, I polished her for ya. She's waiting next to the entrance."
"Perfect."
*Lara jumps in the car, puts the artifact on the chair next to her and starts the engine. Looks at the artifact.*
"I hope you sit nice and comfy, you're in for a rough ride. I hope..."
Porsche? Not at all, anything sleek is not her style imo. In urban settings, at best. In the wilderness I'd rather see her stow away on a rickety old school goods-train happening to pass by. Improvising over accessorising, I say.
As for pets - horse-riding over a short distance would be great for me.

A big kitty that is, Lion, Tiger or Bear. :p
Lara needs a falcon or an eagle, so that it can her peck the enemies eyes out for her and than she can go trigger-happy.

I want her mansion garden to have peacocks wandering about. Just like the fancy gardens in movies.
Lara is hardly ever in her home, and it's not fair for Winston to clean up and look after Lara's pet.
Plus it's a stupid idea anyway.
