Yo gang,
I want on a french forum and I saw a picture of the Atlantean Horseman... They said that it came directly from EIDOS FRENCH site.

I think it's an enemy. It looks similar to the "cat mummy".

OK...I'm officially creeped out! I was scared pantsless by the TR1 original atlanteans (still are) but the horsemen and the cat mummies are out of site creepy! WOW!!! i can't wait to HEAR them!

Holy ****! thats about a million times more scary than that dark spirit or the sea monster in legend. I'm impressed. Now lets just see how it really turns out in the game.

Do you mean 'official concept art' TLR as in not how it looks in game? Doesn't 'look' very 'atlantean' is all I mean. :)

Hmm...whatever happened to the centaurs with blood red complexions? And to think of it the mummies arent red either? Whats up with that? I like how hideous the centaur looks but I wanna know how tall is he going to be and what color is he going to be. They should've had a Lara model in this concept to give us the scale of how tall this creature is supposed to be

It's a cool looking thing, no doubt, but....I had always hoped that it would look something like this:

With no skin to cover the muscles, the blood goes dry. Dried blood is dark red/brown, as it appears on the Atlantans. Cd was going for the more realistic look. Muscles only look like the way you're describing, on anatomy diagrams. I'm glad to see CD did some research.

true, but..the muscles are also living. To be dried out and brown like you say, they would have to be dead.

its sci-fi. maybe they are dead in a way. it looks like bones ripped off from different animals, and joined together by cloth on wooden sticks and brought to life through some sort of dark magic.

Under that interpretation, they could be red and squshy aswell. I guess it just comes down to interperetation and preference.

I think I'd still prefer the red atlanteans b/c thats what made them look soo creepy and scary. If they were brown they'd look more like the environment...may be they can blend in and attack Lara more.
Nonetheless, I still cant wait to see the end product:jmp:

to me the dark horse is scarier. Bright red with such advanced graphics would make them look rediculously campy. They only did that back then because of the limitations of the system. If they didnt make everything bright and clean cut it wouldve been hard to decifer what it was. I couldn't be more pleased with the atlanteans. I've got to hand it to CD. they really surprised me.

True, it was pretty creepy. But now I think they're supposed to look as though they have been rotting very slowly for a few thousand years, and that's cool too.
I'm thinking that CD though the Blood Red, Gory Atlanteans would be too gruesome looking and went for a safer and more ambigous brown look. Not a complaint btw, I think the new creatures look fantastic, they're quite a new twist on the originals. I esp like how how the Cat Mummy ties in with the egyptian mythtology of havin' animal headed gods and godesses.

Sorry...but I REALLY really dislike the official concept art...
It looks nothing like the originals at all...and the above picture is FANTASTIC !!! To see that ^^ in PS2 graphics would be simply stunnning...
But instead, we get something bland and brown, that resembles a crocodile in drag...
...hehe !
I sincerely hope the 'armoured' centaur is only for the tomb of Tihocan level....when the statues come alive just before reaching the second piece of the scion...
And that the real atlantean centaurs look a lot more TR1-esq like the picture above... :wve:
PLEASE CRYSTAL....the atlanteans are SO special to some of us original TR1 players, even more so than the sphynx, or the folly, or atlantis itself.... PLEASE treat them with respect...and don't detract too much from the original blue-print...

And please show bacon lara the same respect..she sood be blood red, with each muscle fibre both visible and pulsating.... Please don't dress hr up in an armored corset with accompanying 'grapple point' ear-rings...

I can see that happening b/c the mummy in "The Mummy" was still rotting and all juicy but his flesh was crumbly, brown, and withered. So I guess it would have to be that way to look more realistic and appeal to a younger audience.

I like how they did make the mummies and atlanteans like Egyptian gods (half animal and half something else; humanoid)

Maybe the Atlantean horsemen guarding the tomb of Tihocan are the only ones in the game that wear armor because they do look a little Greek/Roman. Then the ones later in the game would possibly look more similar to the originals: no armor and more red. Just a guess. The picture does look cool though. :)

omg imagine if bacon lara was like the new atlanteans and looked like some kind of demonic zombi version of lara all dark and brown except for her white eyeballs and black hair hanging over her face like the ring.
Well they have been dead for thousands of years so l would hardly expect them to be all red and fresh looking, they seem to be like those walking skeletons we have fought in other Tomb Raider games, only better preserved. It will be interesting to see what the Atlantean ones look like though, the just hatched ones

It seems like they decided to give an undead look to the Atlanteans, and while I would prefer the good old catlike, streaky-bacon ones, I like the new ones a lot, too :) And who knows, maybe that centaur actually is an undead Atlantean centaur, and the living ones will look more skinless and less rotten.
I think the horseman looks great and terrifying. Cant wait to fight it ;)

i would not said that really loud,... obelisks were most of the time monoliths (one single piece of stone), and theres a drawing which shows an obelisk formed by different blocks were lara can climb on,.... so,.. research may be a quite big word...:)

Woah, I SO wanna hear and see that in game, it looks so scary :D I wonder how that would fit into atlantis, since it's like pulsating red, and brown horseman, or unless atlantis is going to be brown (rofl) and kissbite that pic is cool :D

i agree with you. i think the roman centaur/mummies will be dressed up and rotting because they are 1) guarding a sacred place and 2) have been there for many years. the atlanteans in atlantis,however, i think will be gory and "naked", if you will. they'll look more "fresh" because they are recently hatched.
