Ok this may sound very stupid to many but do u think if Core made new tomb raider games with the same engines as 1 2 and 3 they would make a good profit and those who miss the classics would enjoy them more? (games like Lost Artifact, Golden Mask, Unfinished business) or is this idea doomed from the start? :jmp:

Core Design won't be making Tomb Raider games again ever, and why use the grid system, things have evolved since then. I'm not saying I hate the grid system, but bringing it back would defiantly be a mistake.

Well, sure, most of those who prefer the classics to the new games would love it if Core came back to the series. But would it be successful commercially? Would they profit financially? Not likely. That's why they were dropped in the first place.

Good point. :tmb:

As much as hardcores would enjoy it, casuals would absolutely ignore it.

Even if Core were still around they won't be using the grid system anymore. That's one of the reasons they released TRLE. ;)

However, they would probably used their latest engine seen in TRAE and FreeRun. :tmb:

I liked the grid system, and if they came back, I'm not to sure they would make a prophit :(

The grid system will never be back and, I must say, I like it that way. It was great then, but it doesn't live up to today's standards. Plus, it wouldn't profit if they did bring it back. Oh well. :)

This is something for the countless fans who make custom maps with TRLE.

If core came back, I'd expect smooth FPS controls with 3rd person camera (like UC2) with no grid and free form exploration based on a consistant and fully interactive world where everything has consistant physical properties. No invisible walls, magical autograb etc Every inch of a map would have to be explorable!

I miss those games but if they make another advanced technologies like computers and elevators(Japan)it will be better than before.

Yeah, the general public would pick it up after playing Legend and say

"WTF, why is she so blocky, why is everything made at in perfect squares? WHY! Did CD move backwards, do I get to unlock good gameplay later on?" :D

of course it would be a mistake...the grid system is outdated...plus core design is no more

No. I like the legend engine :jmp:

If a new TR game came out and they used the grid system to make it, I'd still buy it. I miss the way the graphics looked in TRs 1, 2, and 3 when I play them. No really, I do.

Tomb Raider made on Criterion's Renderware (GTA) engine would be funny

proper free-roaming TR :jmp:

*Criterion now owned by EA...hence the reason R* created the RAGE engine for GTA IV*

In my opinion, if Core or Crystal Dynamics ever harken back to grid system it would be the worst decision they'd ever make. I like the grid system to a certain extent, it really was needed for the Tomb Raider of old but to advance this isn't necessary.

Another thing, I hated the accuracy you need when using the grid system. The Legend system used for grabbing seems much more forgiving.

Silly idea? Yes.
