Wow! Just watched it, and, what and amazing movie! Absolutely amazing, highly recommended
I suppose many of you have watched it? Any reviews?

Rivendell

Coincidence! I literally just finished watching it for the first time half an hour ago!

I thought it was all right, nothing majorly special about it. I would've been more interested in those strange half-breed beings that fought with those "immortals".

And I think the slow-motion was overused.

7/10 from me :)

Glad you enjoyed it. :)

I'm put off because alot of the people I know who have seen it say its not very good and like riv said, the slow motion is overused...

Anubis, I swear if I slopped togather anything with big brawly men and high defination effects, you would accept it :p.

I joke.

On a serious note, I'll just quote what I said before about the movie:

"The only thing I credit this movie with is the equal leadership of both marital partners; something that hollywood hasn't done in a long time. Both King Leonidas and his quuen play an equally important role and fought their own battles with bravery. Other than that, the movie wa just... meh."

Anubis_AF
04-04-07, 21:23
Somewhat true, but I didn't like neither Alexander nor Troy :p

The fighting scenes were incredible, don't you think? As Apofiss said, seeing the Immortals more on screen would have been nice too.

It was a big shock to know that Xerxes is a very cute model who had played in the Chanel commercial with Nicol Kidman

Nah! See, I am a Med. History minor and well I laughed more at the depiction of the immortals are ugly beasts rather than enjoy it :p (I really tried hard not to let the logic side of my brain take over... I really did.)

I mean... They made Xerxes look like a transvestite! For Gods sake...

But ont he plus side, yeah its visually stunning and it just oozes pure testostrone. No sissy emoish guys.

:yik: I had no idea Xerxes was Paulo from Lost

I was looking for him on IMDB as his voice reminds me so much of Morrowind's Dagoth Ur. Isn't though..

More Roman than Greek actually ;), but yes I loved the whole idea of them bringing the Greek Phalanx formation back to life with such a sweet visual twist to it.

Not too shabby on that part.

We shouldn't forget that the movie is based on Miller's comic and not in actual Greek history!

As a Greek,I really enjoyed the movie....

 Xerxes was Paulo from Lost!?!? No way, ha I wouldnt have guessed!

went to see the film around a week ago, thought it was verrry good, especially the battle scenes and stuff, but very sad at the end :(

He is unrecognizable in this movie

I only discovered that Rodrigo Santoro was this guy from 300 because everyone here in Brazil is talking about him at the moment (he's one of the best Brazilian actors).

I certainly enjoyed the film visually, the music was great,I certaintly won't complain about the battle scenes and the half-naked guys, and I couldn't care less about the deviation from history( a)it wasn't even based on history and b)it's Hollywood,'nuff said).

As far as the plot is concerned nothing new, seen it all before, nothing to really shake you and make you care for the characters despite the many inspiriing speeches.

7/10 for me...

04-04-07, 22:28
?ou are harsh Ada!I'd give it a 8.5/10.The half naked men and the lack of naked women was a big PLUS,Gerarg Butler was sooo good in it!Also the photography was AMAZING (since it was mostly based in the comic)

For the Greeks:Wasn't it lame that Thermopyles were called Hot gates?
And Molon lave "Come and get it"????Pfff......Lame-o!!!!

Would it be better on the big screen? (I really expect a 'yes' here) Seemed massive on the previews- like a LOTR scene. Really want to see it, but lack the time to go. Would it be spoiled on dvd?

"THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!!" *KICK!!!*

Millions worth scene! XD No matter what critics says, this movie is gold. The thing which is also amazing about ''300'' is how it achieves a perfect feel of Sparta/ns world/atmosphere and not according to any comics but a plain viewers impression *thumbs up* ...and yeah, fight scenes, all these little elements (damn how huge Persians' leader was!? like 9 feets!? :D ) And ones more another proof of greek feminine beauty XD

Really want to see it, but lack the time to go. Would it be spoiled on dvd?

Unless you have a good sound system with a proper subwofer, it's pretty much alright!

Gerard Butler is most gorgeous man ever (at least for me), and now there's more people noticing  , he's also a good actor, I'm glad things seem to be going well for him, he's been around for a while...

I loved Queen Gorgo's character in the movie. She kicked ***

I LOVED that scene! :tmb: :tmb:

Also, the part where his queen stabs *counsel member* (? can't remember his name) was the part when the women in the cinema started to whistle and clap. I guess they would have done the same :p

Hmm, I would say so, yes. Because of the sound effects that just can't go with smaller screen than the one in cinema. I would recommend you take 2 hours break and go see it ;)

The movie is quite awesome indeed.
If you think about it though, the story is worth absolutely nothing. It's just turned into such a beautiful movie that makes it worth the praise.

Do you mean the story as it was in the comic or the history itself that is "absolutely nothing"??

Did anyone feel, as great as the film was, that it sort of whimpered out, with no plot or climax?

It was just a war... and it sort of ended abruptly. I felt like it should have kept going a bit longer and have some really climactic moment.

SPOILERS (highlight): The main character's death seemed anti-climactic.

I mean the story as the movie portrays it. Pretty much what Bowie said.

I thought this movie was hilarious. Both in a good and bad way. It was perposterous, ahistorical, homophobic, immensely pompous, hypocritical (because given how anti-war Hollywood is, they shouldn't be making a movie that espouses the values of dying for one's country this much), and (it can be argued) racist. And I enjoyed almost every minute of it.

It's like the script could have been written by Maddox (The Alphabet of Manliness) or anyone who writes Chuck Norris facts. This is the sort of movie Manowar would be if it were a film and not a metal band. Come to think of it, the movie probably would have been improved with a Manowar song on the soundtrack. Too bad those fanboys at imdb are taking my playful comments about the film way too seriously.
