View Full Version : Why American official release date first for Anniversary?

Is anyone else confused about this?

First of all let me CATAGORICALLY state that this isn't a bash at America.

I am very pleased that americans have a definitive and confirmed date of release. :D

I'm just VERY surprised that, given Tombraiders origin, SCI deemed to debut the information we have all been looking for regarding release dates. Given that Anniversary is a triubute to the original Tombraider (and series if you believe the bumf).:(

Are SCI merely placating a larger population hoping for better sales?

Are we europeans a 'gimme' audience that have already been accounted for in sales projections?

I honestly am trying to work it out and would value other opinions. Am I paranoid?? Seeing a 'smoking gun'! :) It just seems 'wrong' somehow.

Your thoughts?

Europeans are getting it a week before the US, be happy. Announcing the U.S. release date first is just their way of making us feel special since you guys get it first. :p

Alright, the past few days, I have seen so much of this nonsense on my own forum and this forum too. So many people are saying "How come Canada gets it one week after" or "We got this game first and it sucked so we want another one". You guys are being really childish complain about who gets a video game first. Everyone will have the game in the end. frigabond, I'm not saying specifically to you, since your thread really wasn't a bash.

lol, btw, Today on my forum, there was this guy complaining that Europe gets the game first and everything, so when I look at the title of the topic, is says "Europe Sucks" and inside it has a whole lecture on a bunch of stuff. I just wish the game could come out the same day.

I am if we are! Believe me!!:D
It's just that I find it strange that's all and am trying to figure the reasoning behind it.

They could just as well have announced the GB release as 25th May and it would have been the same release wise.

I do take your point though. :)

God Horus I am not complaining honestly..........I'm just trying to understand why they would release an american release date first. Given that we all know that we lucky brits will get it first amyway! Unless the Italians raid Eidos office;) LET ME BE CLEAR THAT WAS A JOKE!!!!!

My point that I'm struggling with is why???? It doesn't make sense, to me anyway, given Tombraiders roots and that Anniversary is a homage to Tombraider the series.

It's not a major problem to me. I just can't understand the logic if that clears my original post up. :)

Crystal Dynamics the people making the game are an American company, so l suppose they want to give the Americans the news first. l really do not think it makes much difference since the game will come out at the same time no matter when it is announced or who hears it first.

But the publisher is British, CD dont have any say (I think anyway) in what area its released first in.

I think that telling the Us was a good idea because the Us is always last to get products from Europe or Asia. In a sense this gives countries both in Europe and Asia a time frame that they will get the game some time before June 5. Now its either going to be a week before or a few weeks before, but its definate that it will be most likely before June 5. Who knows, it might be a day before:D

So it could be a good thing that the US (last to get anything) will be able to get the game officially by June 5 no later.

We already are pretty sure it is released first in Europe, what we are discussing is why the American release date was given before any other regions. It is perfectly fine by me if they do not tell us anything, l am hardly going to miss it since l pre ordered it

There could be several reasons for this. Eidos has several branches around the world that seem to operate more or less independently (Eidos US, UK, France and Germany are the ones I know). One hand often does things the other doesn't know, for example we've recieved screenshots from Eidos UK in 2005 that had to be removed again by request of Eidos US, which weren't informed about it. Maybe Eidos US just released this info without discussing the move with the other offices, or maybe those just aren't ready yet (problems with distribution or translation?). Maybe it's really just a try to flatter the American audience.

I don't know if this is true, but perhaps it has something to do with sign-off from the console makers. For eg, when AoD was released, Sony US signed it off straight away but Sony Europe took longer and refused to allow it to be released as it was.

Maybe the US console people have signed off the US game, and hence a firm release is available in that territory, whereas the European console people are still evaluating...

Anyway, I think it's a bit unfair to have separate release dates in this modern internet age when we all know what's going on and where around the world. Yes I want it asap so I'm not going to complain if Europe is 25 April, but a part of me thinks it'd be best if we all had the 5 June date.

Not to mention the poor PSP people, who are getting it a month later I believe.

How can Europe get it first with all that localisation that has to be done first. All that voice acting and onscreen text has to be done in 6 different languages. I think we PALs will be getting somewhat of a surprise when 25 May rolls 'round. Until Eidos makes an official announcement stating Europe will get it on 25 May...I suggest none us get our hopes up.

Looking back I realize that Legend came out in Europe 4 days before America but I like keeping my glass half-empty, thank you very much.

Good points Mona and Blackmoor! There are reasons for all decisions and I had not even thought of those.:)

It may be something as simple as Eidos US jumping the gun so to speak.

Like I said, it isn't a major thing for me but was a bit confused as to the reason. This thread has done it's job and given me things to consider!! :D

Thanks for your contributions fine forum folk! :tmb:

Legend was released 4 days earlier in the UK then in America, maybe it's America's turn this time.
