View Full Version : Atlantis Walls - Stay or go?

I suppose it may be a little late to be thinking about these kind of things, but if you remember back to that last few times you have played the Atlantis levels in TR1, do you remember those red walls that looked something like a beating heart? :cln:

What would you think this would look like in Anniversary? Graphics will obviously be massively improved, so maybe we wont be in a small tunnel surrounded by this weird type of wall, we may be in a huge open area of some sort, or the walls might not even be there! However, if they were there, I could picture the walls slowing down on the movement a bit, or maybe a new type of puzzle could be created where at certain points a section of the slimy (and maybe bloody) wall opens up for a few seconds. The downside I see to keeping these walls is that I wouldn't like to see a whole room covered with this type of wall, assuming that the graphics will be improved big time for these walls, things may get a bit confusing unless they think of a good idea on how to use them and where.

Should the Atlantean "Bloody" Walls stay for Anniversary, or should they go? How would they look like in today's modern graphics?

Stay? Yes, certainly. They're represent Atlantis just as much four God rooms in St. Francis' Folly.

Yes, keep it! :) Maybe they could make it more rounded, to give the player the feeling they're in a shaped body or something. And maybe veins dangling down from the ceiling. :D

They should definitely stay. Those walls are part of the reason Atlantis was so scary in TR I.

Thats like asking whether or not Lara Croft should be in the next TR game...

Of Course they should stay...it's a no brainer !!!

Though i'm not sure how they will handle them with the more modern graphics...

Think about it...plusating walls dripping with blood.... Back then it was fine, everything was just a mass of pixels and over-stretched textures... But now, things look a lot more clear...

I'm not sure how they could pull off such an environment and still pass as a 16+...

Me thinks there will be a fair amount of making it more 'kid-friendly'... :(:(:(:(:(:(

I think Cd would meet with an unfortunate "Die-Hard Fans" related incident if they removed them. I suggest they keep them in for they're own safety :D

The funky walls were what separated reality and fiction within tomb raider,

if they take them out and replace them with some stoopid rock textures then they've ruined the atmosphere of Atlantis and the almost fairytale feeling hasbeen snatched away and replaced by a cold grey slap in the face,

so yeah, they need to stay

Stay, as long as they look as good as they do in Tomb Raider.

If they managed to recreate the Atlanteans they should be able to recreate the pulsating walls...when walking through that corridors I always felt I was stepping on Atlanteans:p So use the same textures the Cat Atlanteans have but they must be pulsating...that´s it:p

I wish they'd make a whole game with the flesh walls. All the Atlantis levels were really fun to play, so I think they could come up with enough ideas for levels to make an Atlantis game.

I see that most people would come to the conclusion that the walls should obviously stay, because it makes Atlantis complete, but how would people see it as todays modern graphics? Would it be dripping blood or anything? Thanks for pointing that out Cookie :tmb:

I'm hoping the general style will remain very similar, but I'm looking forward to seeing it NOT constructed using perfectly square corridors. A more organic looking Atlantis is essential and I look forward to seeing what Crystal Dynamics have managed to achieve.

It is the type of question that has a pretty obvious answer. It will be interesting to see what CD does with it. TR1 got pretty linear at this part of the game and it was follow the pulsating corridor most of the time.

Call me strange...but i never really liked any of the atlantis levels (except Natlas Mines)... So i remember that section the least...

I can't recall 'linearity' directly...but i do remember many a long red beating corridor..lots of yellow eggs...some axes, boulders, lava and underwater switches... Though i might be getting mixed up with the unfinished business levels (which were SUPERB)....

Im tempted to go back and replay TR1 now..just to see... But i also quite like the idea of a 'new' surprise when i play those levels in the AE...

And yes..the pulsating walls should stay...

:vlol: :vlol: Best answer ever, if not a little scary.

I agree with Samsdad that it'll be Very interesting to see what Crystal have done with Atlantis.
I don't think I'm worried to be honest - everything I've seen seems to be quite true to the original, all of the loctations have been recognisable which is a very good thing imo :tmb:

I hope Atlantis not only stays fleshy and squishy but I want the patterns of red and gold to stay too. I liked how the architecture resembled the Egyptian levels b/c Core was clearly stating with these graphics that Khamoon (Egypt) was a continuation of Atlantis, the survivors of Atlantis really did found Egypt starting with this mythical city of Khamoon. So it would make since to go from the hieroglyphics of green, blue, and golden desgns of Khamoon into the red and gold designs of Atlantis. Now what would really make it cool is if in the room of thrones where Natla, Tihocan, and Quelapec sat is covered with ancient atlantean writing all over the walls, and Lara reads the recorded history of Atlantis and how it became what it is today (according to the game). That would be soo tight. That was one thing I wondered. If Egypt (Khamoon) had hierogluphics everywhere then why didnt Atlantis. They originated the hieroglyphics so why arent they displayed on their walls. Like in Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire, there were hieroglyphics written everywhere in the city and the walls. And even on the citizens. :D
