View Full Version : So that's where the dinosaurs came from!

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but recently I was wondering about whether or not Natla could possibly have created the dinosaurs we battle in TR1.
Then just today I took the video where Lara assembles 2 peices of the scion, and took it frame by frame to reveal the following, amidst the scion and other symbols briefly appearing:

It looks like a baby dinosaur don't you think? So do you think Natla created these with the scion, and if so, for what reason? Just to protect the area around the scion? Or perhaps maybe one of the other rulers of Atlantis created them after Natla was locked up?

Good thought. But in early stages, all vertebrate embryos look about the same - maybe it's a mutant, like the one standing around during Natla's trial.

cool,but I think its a mutant.
GREAT FIND:D:tmb:!!!! And I think it is a dinosaur since it clearly hasa tail when the Atlanteans don't:D
wow I never thought of that...other then the name of The Lost Valley kinda sounded as if the dinosaurs were there ever since. Meh whatever:D I mean why would Natla create those dinosaurs as Lara's obstacles if she hired her to get the Scion from Quloepec...

I do find the possibility that the dinosaurs are some byproduct of the Scion's powers to be a rather intriguing one. I think the bogus Wikipedia article on the history of Scion says something like this.
The dinosaurs were long before anything Natla created, they were here before man. The fall of Atlantis happened many thousands of years after the ice age when man was already the dominant species on the planet. Supposedly everything Natla created the first time was destroyed, considering they were taken as abominations most likely she created the Nephilim, which even after the fall of Atlantis were still being hunted down and destroyed.
Thats not to say earlier Atlanteans could not have recreated them, but it was nothing to do with Natla.

Deffinitly does look like a Dino.. And the dino's could have been put there BEFORE the Scion was made and thrown into the temple. Because they built the temple all around the moutain and everything. The Scion was brought to ends of the world and then Qualepec was built his temple/ tomb. Heh IDK.. Just a thoooought. The Valley could have already been there.. :tea:
It's more likely that the dinosaurs were made by Qualopec than Natla. Dinosaurs make a very good defense from tomb raiders. :)
That was also my theory on it to, though I've never even seen that in dino in that clip before.
How I see it, the Scion functions a bit like 'Noah's Ark', perhaps even predates Atlantis and it contains the genetic blueprints of all different animals (Which is what makes it possble for it to create new creatures, it has a massive selection of Genes to work, I'd say it even works by reverse engineering creatures), I can't think of a better reason for their being dinosaurs there.
I believe the phrase 'powers beyond the creator himself' sums up what the Scion is about. I'd say the Atlanteans were well aware of the Dinosaurs and had a deep knowledge of how life came to be on the planet, probably doing extensive research and experiment on past and present creatures, before the Atlantean armies were created

BTW: Good find!:D I don't have to prove you wrong, this is fiction, we're just trying to create something consistent with what we see already.
At an early stage of embryonic development, you had a tail - it was reabsorbed during further development. I admit the tail in the image looks rather large for that. Maybe the residual tail is surgically docked after a mutant's birth.
So the image looks most like a (probably mutant) dinosauroid, but still might be a mutant such as we see during the "Prison" and "Vision" FMV's (those are the names of the download files at tombraiderchronicles).
