View Full Version : where did you get stuck the most?
Ok, a lot of people ae replaying TR1 because of Anniversary is out or is coming out soon so where did you get stuck the most or where did it take the longest to get unstuck or find your way to the next level?
I got stuck the most in Palace Midas, it took me ages to figure out all of the switch combinations (back then I didn't know the symbols of top of the doors told you the combos and I never went on the web for answers back then) but it I also got stuck in the City of Vilcamaba when you have to use the Gold Idol to open the door to the end, in the room where you get the Idol I went to the left and found he Skull Key, and I didnt think to look on the other side because I thought I just needed the Key, so I too me a long time to find the Idol because that was the last place I thought to look.

no where this time, but in the first time i played it was the obelisk of khamoon, i missed the first lever behind the wall and had to explore the entire level to unlock that 4th bridge.
also the gauntlet of traps in the great pyramid deserves an honourable mention, as does the games hardest jump in tihocan where you have to judge your runnin distance with the axe jump, as if you go to close you lose heaps of health, if you go to far you miss the jump

I remember not having a clue what to do I just wandered arounda dn found a switch and found the artifact on the Obelisk and remembered where to put them.

I never had any trouble with them accually but I gues they could be troubling, I had trouble with the timed brige leading to the Scion in Atlantis.

I found a perfect way to not get hurt by that, you shimmy on the side and shimmy all the way to twhere to axe is swinging then shimmy back 4 times and then get up and when the blade is closest to Lara run and jump and the blade will be back behind the wall.
Back in the day, The Cistern confused me for ages. It is still quite a complex level - it's easy to complete if you get things done in the right order and when the water is at the right height, but if it's your first run through, things can get pretty puzzling. I know for sure that I got stuck/lost at other points too, but this is the one that sticks in my mind the most clearly :)

I loved the Cistern because I always loved it when I would accidently raide/lower the water at the wrong place or time and had to backtrack a lot and so that made it really fun, but the Cistern I think is probobly the most forgotten level in the first Tomb Raider. (that level or the Collesium)

I got stuck at Palace Midas and The Cistern too, and in almost all the Egypt levels lol XD.
The Cistern and Sanctuary of the Scion both had some tricky bits that slowed my progress. Nothing too serious though, I just couldn't remember the puzzles since I hadn't played them for some time.
I also had trouble remembering how to drop safely down into the lava pits in Natla's Mines.
I got stuck on the cistern for ages, because of one key I couldn't find which turned out to be in a really obvious place :)
It's ages since I played the original but now I'm hooked on the new one but...
Can someone tell me the secret (pardon the pun) behind getting out of the library in Croft Manor? I've been in the gym and managed to get a relic (or artifact, I forget which now) plus I pressed the button to raise the four pillars but then it seems that you can't progress in there without the grapple which I can't find. You need the grapple in the pool room too so I can't progress in there either. I've got the journal - and the cog thing from the top of the crates in the lobby and I've put the crate on top of the floor switch. I left the library until last because I knew I would get locked in and I've picked up the pistols and the elephant from behind the glass. Lare seems to look down at the left hand side of the door (facing the door) and I've tried everything to reveal whatever it is but with no luck. So now I'm stuck in the library again - any help would be great!
Hmm... that's a tough one. But I'm gonna have to say The Great Pyramid. It wasn't the puzzles it was the sheer skill that was need to complete the level.
there was always a bit in the egypt section where the walkthrough would describe doing something but when it came to doing it couldnt make out what the hell it was talking about, got stuck on that bit both times lol,
think it was the bit just before you encounter the mummys
natlas's mines got me i didnt have any weapons and kept dying before i found out where they were
Those taps in the Great Pyramid didn't bother me at all...not even on my very first try, i'm still shocked to say I haven't been killed at that part yet lol.
I'd probably say then that Palace Midas got me and Tomb of Qualopec, though that mummy in the corridor in City of Khamoon scares the crap outta me still!

Cistern is like one big maze to me. It was always fun when I knew where to go but the first couple of times I played the level I was all like Up, down, left, right, forward, down, up, *fills room with water*, left, right, down, forward, up. :hea:
I agree with those who said The Cistern. I'm right now re-playing the whole game as I play anniversary and the cistern if not done in the proper order it will have you wandering around for ages draining and flooding back and forth. I missed it in TR:A, even though the main room was there, all the other smaller rooms around the place were gone.
Obelisk of Khamoon was another difficult level, especially with the switches and rooms, I particularly remember that room where you turn the slopes into stairs like a couple of times. Quite puzzling...

Not stuck exactly, but all the tunnels & gates in Natla's Mines looked alike to me at first, so every time I threw a switch, I almost re-explored all of the tunnels until I found where the change was.
