ATI Radeon 8500Retail 128MB Memory DirectX8.1, works with RTCW like a dream, but won't display all the features in DirectX9.0 games, such as AOD :(

128MB Geforce4 MX440... in my AthlonXP 2600+

128MB of video RAM does make a difference - i didnt think it would too much (from 64MB to 128MB) yet it does. I also have a 64MB Geforce4 MX440 in my other PC - AthlonXP 1600+

siting in a box (the case of an old PC) is a 32MB TNT2 PCI for when i move to dual screens...

Will upgrade to a GeForce Ti or Radeon Type equiv. when i have spare cash...

Duffman's back! :D How's the leg?

Duffman

thanx for the welcome back deano...

the leg is still sore - but im off the crutches and walking (almost) normally agian. The only thing is inclines and stairs are still very hard - but i see improvements each time i try - so im optimistic. I have physio every week or so and am back at work...

Doctor says i will be back playing sports (which i have been patiently twiddling my thumbs over) in a couple of weeks, yet the swelling will not go down for between 9-12 months...

agian, thanx for asking :D

Hi anna3f!

The 9600 is a DirectX9.0 card the 9100 is a DirectX8.1 card........darn, should have picked up the 9600, if it didn't have too much of a price premium.

Slaine36

What CPU are U using the 9800Pro with. I'm considering getting a 9700pro to use with my old 1ghz P3, so I have Dx9 capabilities till I can upgrade the MB/CPU to a P4/800mhz fsb.

May well be worth holding on for a month or so because both nVIDIA and ATi are releasing brand new cards packed with the latest architectures later this year. If you can't afford one of the newer cards, then for sure the prices on older models will fall dramatically.

Good point Tlr OnLine,

Since you have possibly already have played some of AOD!!!!!!!speculating, but someone in your position would have had some real exposure to the game. So how much of the eye candy in AOD will I be missing out on using a Dx8.1 card vs using a Dx9.0 card? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

High Jinx. Yes, I have played AOD, and it's full of eye candy I can tell you! Simply put, it's pretty darn good! Your 8500 Pro should be able to handle the game just fine.
