Cook Glacier perches atop Kerguelen Island, the largest of the French and Souther Antarctic Islands, which lie 5,310 kilometers (~3300 miles) southeast of the Cape Agulhas in South Africa. Located in the southern Indian Ocean, the island is almost entirely uninhabited, save for a research station and as a base for seal-hunting and whaling. The island is home to wild hogs, dogs, seals, and rabbits.
