Hello everybody, I'm new to the forums, so I thought I'd give my two cents on what I thought of Anniversary here. I'll start off by saying that I was skeptical to start, but it well surpassed my wildest dreams for the game. Mind you, the original is still better, in my opinion. However, Anniversary was great. Anyway, here's my little review:
GRAPHICS: Obviously, they don't live up to the top notch games right now, but I did keep in mind that it is not next gen, but a PS2 (for me) game. With this in mind, I thought the graphics were breathtaking. I never could have imagined locations like the St. Franics Folly, Natla's Mines, or The Lost Valley in such beautiful detial. I give this section a 10/10 score and a HUGE round of applause.
GAMEPLAY/CONTROLS: I loved the gameplay in Legend and I'm so glad that certain elements have returned. The controls while playing are smooth and the flow is absolutely unbelievable. The swimming way too buggy though and it doesn't flow well at all. Because of this, I give gameplay and controls a 9/10. It's not bad whatsoever, they just should have been more improved. I loved her new moves though.
LEVEL DESIGN: Wow, this was a huge plus for me. After the way-too-easy and extremely linear game Legend, I thought Tomb Raider was going to be stuck in child mode forever. CD sure proved me wrong. The design seemed almost flawless... ALMOST. Invisible walls still appeared out of nowhere and the "honeycomb effect" that existed in past game (i.e. Palace Midas) seemed to have disappeared. I give this a 9.5/10. Awesome, but a small space for improvement.
LARA CROFT/CHARACTERS I love them all. Lara had her old attitude back, Natla was creepier than ever, and the entire cast seemed to be changed for the better. Cowboy seemed to be missing, but that certainly didn't affect the score for the game in my mind any. We already had a Texan, which is very similar. I thought that all of the characters looked great. Natla especially. Sure, she was different, but in a good way. I give this section a [I]10/10[I/] or perfection.
STORYLINE: Interesting, that's for sure. I loved the way Lara reacted to killing Larson. I don't understand why CD felt the need to bring Lara's mommy into the story again. I had hoped that we would get a connection with Legend, but not mommy or daddy. I suppose I give this section a 9/10. Even though it was flawed (giving away Atlantis) the direction CD took it is definately the correct one.
So, overall, my rating is 9.5. Very good job, CD! :tmb:
