Project Eden was a game developed by Core Design in 2001 for the Playstation 2. Has anyone played it? Any good?

Ahhh! Project Eden. One of my favourite PS2 games. A fantastic and highly challenging adventure game from Core. I loved it. An underrated classic.
I've always had my eye on this game, i've never bought it though. Maybe i should give it a go :D

Go on. I highly recommend it. :tmb:

It's one of my favourite games. If you love the puzzling aspects of TR, you'll love it. I like the story, the characters, the controls and 4 team member dynamics (that form part of the puzzling solving and work very, very well), and it's scary first time through!!
Or it was when I played it first time at the time of release. The graphics are dated slightly so that my reduce the fear factor a bit... but, I reckon not totally.
You can pick up this game for virtually nothing now and it is a real bargain. Like Undertaker says - an underrated classic. I actually think this is a game that would benefit from a sequel with a bit of an upgrade and some Next Gen graphics...
:)
Hard to believe it's been nearly 6 years since that came out. Definitely one of my favorite games from '01. I'll have to fire up my PC version soon.
Here's a post I made about the game last year that describes it pretty good:
I HIGHLY recomend every Tomb Raider fan checking out Project Eden if they haven't already. With the exception of the first 3 Tomb Raider games, some of the best work Core ever did. The unique part of this game is that you can switch back and forth between four different characters throughout the whole thing. You need 2 or more of the characters to act as a team to be able to solve many of the puzzles (of which there are loads of). May be a wee bit too action oriented for some but it's definitely worth a try.

I thought Project Eden was very good :D (I have the PC version) People have already pretty much said why it's good in this thread so I don't have much to add :) The story seemed a little weak to me, but the gameplay was very good and the way that the team worked was fantastic (having to switch between characters to solve the puzzles because each character has different abilities)
I bought this today, I can see what you guys mean :)

Do you like it Talion? :)
Do you like it Talion? :)
well, i haven't got that far yet (I'm up to the waste furnace place on the first level), but what I've done so far has been pretty good :) It took a while to get used to the controls, but now I'm used to it I'm liking it :tmb: I haven't seen much combat yet though, but I guess that's coming up soon isn't it :D
How far are you into the game talion?
Since beating the PS2 version back in 2001 I haven't hardly played Project Eden at all. Picked up the PC version about 4 years ago but was never really happy with the controls. Seeing this thread inspired me to try it again.
I messed around with it yesterday and was able to map out all the controls to my gamepad, making it control just about as good as the PS2 version. Not only that, but I found an anamorphic 16:9 widescreen mode which makes the game look really good on my plasma display.
I almost forgot how great this game is! So much more exploration and puzzle solving than I remembered. The cool team control aspect of the game was fairly unique for the time (inspiring games like Resident Evil Zero shortly thereafter). The small remote controlled devices you need to progress through the levels (like the rover and fly cam) really add to Project Eden as well.
EVERYONE here needs to try this game out if you haven't already! It really has all of the same aspects of the early Tomb Raider games that made them so special. Below are some screengrabs of my "trip down memory lane".:tmb: You can also find a short demo of Project Eden here (http://www.gamershell.com/download_4851.shtml).

I'm on the Skytran level at the moment, I've been playing it two player with my brother. I've gotta say it is simply awesome! It is one of the most perfectly balanced games I think I have ever played. I mean, it has just about everything you could want from a game. It is long (its taken me 2 weeks just to get to where I am), difficult (but not too difficult) and most importantly, fun :D :D
The fly cam is one of my favourite features, because the levels are designed in such a way that you can use it to scout ahead and see most of the rest of the level while trying to solve what to do. I think the Construction Site level was the best example of this.
SPOILER:
There was one thing that annoyed me a little bit :) Did anyone else find it a bit annoying when that molecular thing explodes in the Hospital and Control asks you to bring a monster to the roof so a hovercraft (or whatever) can pick it up? Why couldn't we do this in the first place, instead of having to go to the trouble of repairing that molecular thing? Not only this, but there is already a monster on the roof ready to be picked up, so essentially you didn't even need to go into the hospital in the first place! Oh well, it was a pretty good level anyway lol :D
humm, it doesnt really appeal to me , i like well ,
tombraider and the sims 2 :p thats the ONLY games i play now , but crash bandicoot was a fave when i was about 7
Can anyone tell me how long this game is? Its just I want to make it last as long as possible :) I'm on the level Ground Zero, so am I near the end or is there still lots left?
You're on the 9th level, two more left after that.:tmb:

Excellent, I thought I was on the last level :tmb: :) So I'm guessing that SPOILER: huge demon thing :SPOILER is the final boss then? :D :D Wait, no don't tell me! :D
sorry to double post, but i've finished it :D

It sure is :tmb: I so want a sequel now!!! :D :D
I dunno if you'll agree with me on this, but I thought the background track for the final level sounded very much like the background track for Temple of Xian and Floating Islands from TR2. It's not identical though, just similar IMO :) Anyway, the game was great, I think my favourite level was either the construction site or the zoo :tmb:

Yeah, those were a couple of my favorites too.
I found myself getting stuck quite often over the last week on my second full playthrough of Project Eden. There are hardly any recent games that make you think this much. The puzzle and level designs are so well laid out and challenging.
I would absolutely love a sequel as well, but only if most (if not all) of the original designers were involved. Anyone else would probably dumb down the game dramatically.

It was also released on PC. Kind'a boring, if you ask me.

They'd probably miss the point completely and change it into a "run-and-gun" game, like we don't have a gazillion of those out there anyway.
Can you imagine this game in Next Gen graphics? *swoons*
What I particularly like about Project Eden is those old TR feelings of - Where am I? What is that? What do I have to do? How do I do it?
Maybe now Core are at Rebellion they can work on something that takes account of their particular ability to create games with these feelings, and also their ability to create genuinely awesome, beautiful and believable worlds.

Exactly! Like you can see point b but how to get there is the hard part.
Also it has those great moments from the old Tomb Raiders where something comes at you unexpectedly from like around the corner or above/below. Like earlier today I'm playing it, walking on a very narrow steel beem (hundreds of feet above the ground) and all the sudden a large piece of glass drops from above. It startled me a little bit but also was pretty damn funny at the same time. Those little things Core Design added really keep you on your toes.

I think this was one of my favourite features of the game. Each level's rooms are all very closely interlinked and there are many paths to take back and forward through the level. The clever part is that, even with the aid of the flycam, there were very rarely any shortcuts through the levels (that i could find) even though each area was linked. This also allowed for the flycam to squeeze through little holes and cracks or across chasms to explore areas further ahead in the level and sometimes give you the ability to try and plan your route through it. This is a unique feature as far as my gaming experience is concerned :p
Did you play the PS2 or PC version Talion?
I've been continuing to replay Project Eden over the past week. The levels are so huge some of them take upwards of two hours to complete! Needless to say this has taken up a good chunk of my free time lately.:tmb:

The PS2 version :tmb: I wish I got the PC version myself now so I could take some screenshots of my own!
PS. that construction site level (i mean, that was huge) took me three days :D I totally understand the weird ability of this game to eat up your time :D
I want a sequel!
I agree! Imagine what they could do with today's graphics... as long as they keep the level design up to standard I think it would make an incredible game :D
ps. welcome to the forums! :D :wve:

Was an awesome game. Check out this lot...

I discovered this game recently (it was given with the videogames magazine I've suscribed). It's really an amazing game, I love the concept ! :)
Good to know you're enjoying the game Alex.
A sequel would be freaking great, but doubt it will ever happen. Don't think the game did that well sales wise, which hurt any chance of a follow up being considered. Very unfortunate considering how amazing the game is.

I remember having that game on my PC AGES ago, its really good fun :D
Great game indeed :). Basically a sci-fi version of Vikings :).
I loved this game, it was really fun and had some pretty imaginative puzzles. :tmb: I doubt there will be a sequel though, which is a shame. :(
