Blind Let's Play

Okay, shortly after completing my Blind Playthrough for Tomb Raider Legend, I have now started a Blind Playthrough for Tomb Raider Anniversary.

Early days, but I am liking this game so far, having only completed Mountain Caves. I see the controls are very much the same to that of Legend's, and because of that I'm not quite as utterly horrific at the controls than I would be if this was my first experience. :p

Hope you enjoy and that we can keep each other up to date with this Playthrough. :D

Good luck :)

Please no guests this time. ;P I did feel like right from the beginning of Legend's England you were "extra" annoyed with that game (compared to how you were in the earlier parts).

Fingers crossed you enjoy it more than you did Legend. :)

Edit: "Progress is more important, right?" just as he speedruns through an area with a secret for the 2nd time made me giggle. ;P

You've started playing Anniversary!! :jmp:

Definitely looking forward to this! I really enjoyed watching your blind playthrough of Legend despite it being my least favourite TR game of all time, but Anniversary is my favourite Crystal Dynamics' TR game by far (even though it can't touch TR1 of course) so I'm sure I'll enjoy this playtrough even more since I actually love this game. :D

Two favourite moments so far was when you considered yourself safe from the wolves only to fall through the rope bridge immediately afterwards and get chomped on by wolves and later when you were all sure you'd enter the wolf room from TR1 only to discover there is no such room in TRA. :p :D

Also, two thumbs up for playing Anniversary now that it is the 20th anniversary of TR! :tmb: :tmb:

Going quite well so far. Though I do need to improve with combat; I'm getting struck by enemies a lot. :o

Thank you. :)

I enjoyed Legend to begin with but it did go downhill for me. :o

I hope Anniversary doesn't follow in the footsteps of Legend. :p

Oh I'm sure it's going to be a rollercoaster of enjoyment and rage. ;)

Good luck with the Adrenaline Dodge. ;P

PS. It showed how to drop safely in the Mountain Caves level I believe. Edit: At 21:20. Press and hold R2.

I'll advise you to turn off the manual grab mechanic, it's unnecessary in my opinion, and will probably cause you more hassle as you progress.

Those first wolves that you encounter in Vilcabamba are glitchy in the Trilogy version of the game. It rarely happens on the PS2 version, although I'm not sure about the other platforms.

Now, the adrenaline dodge is a technique that you'll want to master in TRA. During combat, most enemies will become enraged after you have shot at them a substantial amount (it varies). You'll notice enraged enemies will emit a pulse of light before attempting to charge at you; this is when you need to ready yourself for an evasive maneuver, and when slowdown sequence kicks-in (while maintaining a target lock on the enemy), use the roll button while moving in any direction (I recommend dodging left or right in most instances - depends on the type of battle), and when the two target reticles merge together and turn red, this is where a single shot needs to be executed, which will either stun or take out the enemy completely.

I think the adrenaline dodge was implemented very well in this game. The maneuver is known to be problematic for some, but I've never really had any problem with it, apart from when the game gives you that tutorial when faced with the bear at the start of Vilcabamba, due to the pauses in gameplay. I've always found the adrenaline dodge easy on a controller, but I'm sure many will disagree, especially if using a keyboard and mouse.

I have actually found the adrenaline dodge very easy to execute on the PC, using keyboard and mouse. The problem is that the game does a terrible job teaching you how to use it and players may be completely olivious to it if they don't pay attention.
