Cinemas use digital projectors nowadays, although it is true that digitally edited films used to be reprinted onto film, to suit different theatres.

Unfortunately, it does nothing to help the situation, as those 35mm theatrical prints of COL would still have been printed from a 2K digital image edit :/.

In fact, scanning a release print would make it look worse, as the quality would have been downgraded slightly after transferring the digital edit to film.
